Chapter 179 A Single Thought Ignites Splendor

Xu Zhuohua suddenly lifted her foot, the hem of her skirt billowing in the force of her run, each step seeming to crush the grievances that had accumulated over a long time.

Tears welled up uncontrollably in my eyes, torn into tiny specks of light by the wind, half floating in the air and half hitting the ground, leaving a small dark stain.

She gazed at the familiar figure not far away, a lump forming in her throat, and let her feet carry her forward.

Cheng Muyun moved almost simultaneously.

His legs seemed to be pulled by an invisible force, running towards the direction he had longed for. The road beneath his feet was flat, yet he felt that every step he took was on his heart, making his chest tremble.

The distance of just a few dozen steps felt as long as crossing countless mountains and rivers.

All the longing and torment of being unable to meet now turned into dust beneath their feet, left far behind by the wind as they ran.

Time seemed to stretch and compress in that instant, all the accumulated longing intertwined on this short stretch of road.

"Meeting you alone"—these four words were thoughts that Cheng Muyun had pondered repeatedly in countless late nights, as ethereal as a wisp of smoke that could not be grasped, but now, when his gaze fell upon her, they suddenly became real.

She was there, covered in dust, running towards him.

Cheng Muyun suddenly reached out and hugged Xu Zhuohua tightly.

The force was so great that he almost embedded her into his bones. He greedily inhaled the faint fragrance of her hair, a scent mixed with the aroma of sunshine and breeze—the scent he had longed for for so long.

A voice inside me screamed: Hold on to her, never let go again.

He wanted to pull her tightly into his body, to synchronize their heartbeats, and to let their temperatures blend together.

No matter what the future holds, whether it's a journey through fire and water or a peaceful and carefree life, from now on, his eyes and heart will only have room for this one person.

Warm liquid fell unexpectedly onto Xu Zhuohua's shoulder; it was Cheng Muyun's tears.

He didn't say anything, just buried his face in the crook of her neck, his shoulders trembling slightly.

It was the ultimate joy, the excitement that had been suppressed for too long, and the thousand words that were on the tip of one's tongue, but which turned into an even deeper embrace.

Xu Zhuohua reached out and hugged him back, feeling the strong rise and fall of his chest. At that moment, Cheng Muyun felt as if a ship that had been adrift for a long time had finally sailed into a harbor, and the fragments of his wandering soul had finally found their home, settling steadily back into place. The world quieted down, leaving only their overlapping breaths and the clearly audible beatings of their hearts.

Xu Zhuohua's cries came from Cheng Muyun's arms.

Xu Zhuohua was also in pain in the days without Cheng Muyun. She thought she didn't care that much, but the moment she saw Cheng Muyun, the pain of her heart stopping reminded her that she loved Cheng Muyun.

Cheng Muyun released his grip, wiped away Xu Zhuohua's tears, and his voice was trembling with sobs.

"It's okay, don't worry."

Xu Zhuohua cried even harder.

She thought she would never see Cheng Muyun again. She was afraid she wouldn't make it to Xinhai City, afraid she wouldn't be able to save Cheng Muyun, and afraid that the person she loved most would die in front of her.

At this moment, Xu Zhuohua truly understood that Cheng Muyun was not just a person, but also her life, her soul, and her one.

Xu Zhuohua said in a hoarse voice, "Cheng Muyun, I miss you so much."

Tears fell like beads from a broken string; Xu Zhuohua looked as aggrieved as a child.

Hearing Xu Zhuohua's hoarse voice, Cheng Muyun felt even more heartbroken.

During the days they couldn't see each other, Xu Zhuohua fell ill, and he felt sorry for her.

"Zhuohua, I miss you so much too. Please don't leave again, okay?"

Xu Zhuohua almost shouted, "Fine, I won't leave, but please don't provoke those people, okay?"

Xu Zhuohua thought Cheng Muyun was fleeing and that the government was hunting him down.

Cheng Muyun wiped away Xu Zhuohua's tears and said softly, "It's all fake in the newspapers, I was just kidding you."

Xu Zhuohua wasn't angry about being deceived; her heart was filled with relief that Cheng Muyun was safe.

She hugged Cheng Muyun, buried her face in his chest, and said aggrievedly, "Cheng Muyun, you're annoying."

Cheng Muyun held Xu Zhuohua tightly. "If I didn't do this, how would you have appeared? I knew you were still alive, but I couldn't find you. Do you know how worried I was?"

Cheng Muyun wished he could turn the world upside down. The thought of Xu Zhuohua somewhere in the world made him wish he could just fly there.

Xu Zhuohua was stunned for a moment, then looked up, her eyes red-rimmed, "How did you know?"

Cheng Muyun gently stroked the tip of her pert nose. "I dug up your grave, and it's empty."

Xu Zhuohua never expected that Cheng Muyun would do such a thing.

However, such a crazy thing seems more like something Cheng Muyun would do.

"Aren't you afraid the body is still inside?"

Cheng Muyun smiled and said, "If I dare to dig, I'm certain there's nothing inside."

Xu Zhuohua paused, as if he had been weighing things in his mind for a long time, before slowly raising his eyes to look at Cheng Muyun.

His eyes remained as deep as I remembered, like a bottomless lake, occasionally revealing a chilling edge rarely seen in ordinary light.

But upon closer inspection, one can clearly see gentle ripples in its depths, and an uncontainable joy hidden within its chill, like a child who has received long-awaited candy, their eyes shining brightly.

She pursed her lips, and finally asked the question that had been lingering on her tongue: "Cheng Muyun, you won't blame Chen Hede, will you?" Her voice was soft, with a hint of barely perceptible probing.

Cheng Muyun's gaze remained fixed on her face; those eyes he had longed for were now staring intently at him.
