He had one hand in his pocket, the other hanging casually at his side, his fingers long and slender, the metal buttons on his cuffs reflecting a cold light.
The dark military boots reflected the disheveled figure at the doorway. The gun in Lan Qingyi's hand was still emitting white smoke, and his astonished face was distorted into a comical silhouette by the boots.
Cheng Muyun slightly raised his chin, his eyes narrowed, and a hint of sarcasm pierced the silence like an ice blade. A half-smile appeared on his thin lips, and his voice was low and cold: "Secretary Lan, can't you wait any longer?"
The last syllable was drawn out very lightly, yet it was like a cold nail, instantly freezing the air in place.
Lan Qingyi looked at Cheng Muyun as if he were a devil. He was so relaxed, as if victory was in his grasp, as if Lan Qingyi was about to fail.
The overwhelming fear instantly engulfed Lan Qingyi, and for a moment, he dared not confront Cheng Muyun.
But with the arrow already on the bowstring, there was no choice but to release it. Lan Qingyi put away his pistol, cleared his throat, licked his lips, and said with a lack of confidence, "Since Young Marshal Cheng has come out, then come with me."
Cheng Muyun sneered, his eyes and brows carrying a smile, yet in the sweltering summer heat, it sent a chill down one's spine.
"I haven't done anything wrong, why should I go with Secretary Lan? To have tea?"
Lan Qingyi steadied herself and raised her voice, "You killed someone in the street! There are witnesses and physical evidence; what are you trying to deny?"
Zhang Qi moved a chair over, and Cheng Muyun sat down, his long, slender legs crossed. "Secretary Lan saw me kill someone with my own hands? These Japanese men were fighting over a piece of spoiled cornbread in the prison cell. In the heat of the moment, they grabbed the guard's pistol and started killing each other. By the time I arrived, they were already dead."
Cheng Muyun raised his head, his handsome eyes, filled with a smile, looking at everyone. "However, they deserved to die. It saves me the trouble of doing it myself."
Lan Qingyi was so angry with Cheng Muyun that she couldn't speak.
However, even before he could reprimand Cheng Muyun, the reporters nearby couldn't stand it anymore.
"That's utterly unreasonable. Who else could have killed him besides you?"
Cheng Muyun raised an eyebrow. "Do you have any evidence?"
The man was speechless, and someone next to him immediately said, "You just say whatever you want, and you don't care about the lives of ordinary people."
"Yes, what's the difference between them and bandits?"
"Exactly, exactly! You murderer, isn't your pleasure in killing? You might even be the one who made those people kill each other."
Cheng Muyun raised an eyebrow and said, "So what if it is? Are you going to write that in the newspaper tomorrow?"
The man was speechless in front of everyone. How could a report be published based entirely on conjecture? But Cheng Muyun's attitude was as if he would report false news.
With his face flushed red, the reporter said indignantly, "So you're such an unreasonable person. No wonder Chairman Luo wanted to kill you but mistakenly killed Xu Zhuohua. It seems that's your retribution."
Upon hearing this, who wouldn't gasp in surprise?
Xu Zhuohua is Cheng Muyun's Achilles' heel. Even if it's out of spite, he can't mention Xu Zhuohua's death.
The reporter suddenly felt that the previously crowded area had become spacious. When he looked back, he was surprised to find that everyone around him had taken a step back in unison.
Some of her eyes were looking at the sky, some at the ground, but she deliberately avoided looking at him, clearly keeping her distance.
Cheng Muyun narrowed his eyes, lowered his calf off his knee, propped his elbow on his knee, and looked at the reporter expressionlessly.
With just a glance, the reporter was so frightened that he lost control of his bladder.
When urine leaked from between his trembling legs, the people around him covered their mouths and noses.
Cheng Muyun chuckled, "With such little courage, you dare to challenge me? Don't you even know if you're worthy?"
As if seized by a playful impulse, Cheng Muyun smiled at everyone and said in a chilling voice, "I'll give you a chance. You can run before I count to ten. If you can disappear from my sight, I'll let you go."
The reporter's legs went weak and he could barely stand, staring blankly without nodding or shaking his head.
Cheng Muyun began to count, "One, two..."
As soon as he counted to two, the man took off running, tumbling and crawling, not caring how many people he bumped into, howling as he fled like a stray dog.
Cheng Muyun had just counted to five when the person disappeared.
Because compared to his own life, the man dared not gamble on Cheng Muyun's momentary soft-heartedness.
That terrifying man, like a devil, will surely kill him.
After the reporter disappeared, Cheng Muyun continued talking, shifting his gaze to the person still standing there.
"Six, seven, eight..."
Someone reacted first and ran away, their disheveled figure mirroring that of the man from before.
People were swept along and ran off in a frenzy, as if fleeing for their lives.
When the count reached ten, there was no one left in front of the military camp except for the men Lan Qingyi had brought to surround and suppress them.
Even though the photos of the two fighting were more appealing, no one dared to risk their lives to stay put.
Who knows if Cheng Muyun will go insane and kill everyone indiscriminately.
Cheng Muyun smiled smugly, his eyes shifting to Lan Qingyi.
At this moment, the young Cheng Muyun was teasing Lan Qingyi like an old man teasing a child.
Lan Qingyi, having witnessed Cheng Muyun's terrifying nature, dared not utter a sound.
Cheng Muyun said, "Secretary Lan, aren't you leaving? Should I count again?"
No one had ever dared to speak to Lan Qingyi like that before. After all, he was the second-in-command of the Central Military Commission, and everyone had to bow down to him.
Lan Qingyi suddenly raised her voice and angrily shouted, "Cheng Muyun, how dare you mock me! Today, no matter what, your Dongzhou army will not be able to stay!"
