Chapter 32 The Opium Mystery 4: The Case of Silver Loss

Cheng Muyun led his men to Huang's Cloth Shop in the west of the city, where they were just about to close.

Huang's Cloth Shop has a small storefront, but a large backyard with a cloth washing pool, a water vat filled with dye, and rows of dyed cloth hanging in the yard.

It looks like a perfectly normal fabric store.

But the more normal something is, the more unusual it becomes.

The scouts returned quickly, "Young Marshal, we found it! There's a large amount of silver in the warehouse, and..."

Cheng Muyun asked, "Anything else?"

"The empty wooden box looked like it had been used to hold opium, and there were residues on the ground."

Found it!

...

Xu Zhuohua was still explaining to Hu Moli that she knew Hu Moli came from the Peking Opera world because of her figure.

After a long explanation, Hu Moli finally lowered her guard a little.

"I didn't expect you to know so much about traditional Chinese opera."

Xu Zhuohua deliberately said, "Last time, Cheng Muyun took me to the Peking Opera Garden and listened to Mr. Mei's opera. I was amazed. Today, after seeing Miss Hu, I remembered this and asked about it."

Hu Moli immediately became extremely alert. "What did you say? I don't know any Mr. Mei."

Xu Zhuohua didn't know why Hu Moli was so nervous and wanted to distance herself from Mei Heming, but she felt excited as if she knew their relationship and was holding their secret.

"I didn't mean that, Miss Hu, please don't be nervous."

Hu Moli turned around and angrily walked towards the door, saying, "It's getting late, I'll go get Miss Xu some food."

The door closed, Hu Moli left, and Xu Zhuohua glanced out the window.

She was right; there was a platform outside the window, and a short staircase leading down from the platform.

This is a typical old-style building in Xinhai City. The platform is a terrace, which can be walked up directly from the courtyard.

She deliberately angered Hu Moli so that she could escape through the window.

Xu Zhuohua didn't believe Hu Moli's words. Even if the matter with 'that gentleman' was settled, it was still uncertain whether she would be released. If Cheng Muyun really couldn't find her, wouldn't she be finished?

The world is vast, but your own life is the most important; it's better to hold it in your own hands than to leave it in someone else's.

As night fell, Xu Zhuohua lifted her skirt, jumped out of the window, quickly ran down the extremely narrow stairs, and silently opened the courtyard gate.

That 'sir' really had nothing to worry about; there wasn't even a guard at the door.

Xu Zhuohua flagged down a rickshaw at the intersection, took out the few silver dollars Cheng Muyun had given her from her pocket, and said, "To Cheng's mansion."

The rickshaw puller looked exactly like Xiangzi from "Rickshaw Boy," a strong young man with a towel draped over his shoulder.

"The Cheng residence is too far..." Holding the silver dollar in his hand, his eyes lit up. "Please sit tight, I'll definitely take you there!"

After the rickshaw disappeared into the alley, Hu Moli stood on the terrace, poked her head out, and then fired a signal flare into the sky.

As Xu Zhuohua sat in the rickshaw, she felt increasingly uneasy. This rickshaw driver, Xiangzi, hadn't turned a single corner. Although she wasn't familiar with the roads of Xinhai City, she knew that going to Cheng Mansion would lead to many beautiful villas, but here, all she saw were quaint shops.

"Wait a minute! Where are you taking me?"

Camel Xiangzi was covered in sweat. He wiped the sweat off with a towel and said, "Don't worry, Miss, I'll make sure you get to your destination!"

After a while, the rickshaw stopped, and Camel Xiangzi said, "Miss, we've arrived."

Xu Zhuohua's back ached from the bumpy ride. She slowly got off the bus, looked up, and saw Huang's Cloth Shop.

"Wait a minute? Where am I?"

But Xiangzi, the rickshaw boy, pulled his rickshaw and sped away.

Xu Zhuohua stood there, stunned. What the hell?! They took the money but didn't do any work. Where did they send it to?

All the surrounding shops were closed, except for Huang's Cloth Shop, which was brightly lit.

There was no other way but to go inside and see if there were any kind people.
