Chapter 34 The Opium Mystery 6: Approaching the Truth

As expected, Cheng Muyun's men will successfully capture Huang Sanchong and then easily find out that Liang Shaozun is the person behind him.

Given the Cheng family's temperament, they will definitely fight the Liang family to the bitter end.

Everything was within Chen Hede's calculations.

Cheng Muyun was very unhappy at this moment.

Before confronting the Liang family, he wanted to settle this score with Chen Hede.

Cheng Muyun took Xu Zhuohua's hand and walked into the courtyard.

Chen Hede, who was sitting in a chair drinking tea, was clearly taken aback. He hadn't expected Cheng Muyun to come back.

He put down his teacup, stood up to greet the two, and asked, "Young Marshal, you've found Miss Xu?"

Before he could finish speaking, Cheng Muyun raised his fist and punched Chen Hede in the face.

Chen Hede stumbled, took two steps back, and bumped into the table, shattering the white porcelain teacup on the floor.

Xu Zhuohua screamed in fright. She didn't know how much force had been used in that blow; she could clearly hear the sound of bones colliding right next to them.

Police officers immediately surrounded them, and Cheng Muyun's men were not to be outdone.

Two groups of people, batons against rifles, the disparity was obvious, yet neither would give way.

Chen Hede struggled to his feet, pressed down his men's batons, and sternly reprimanded them: "What are you doing? Don't you know your own limitations? How dare you go against the army?"

The police officers reluctantly put down their batons. Chen Hede looked at Cheng Muyun with a smile, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. "Young Marshal, the military and police are one family. It doesn't have to be like this."

Cheng Muyun suddenly grabbed his collar, "Chen Hede, you should have thought this would happen when you were plotting against me."

Chen Hede's smile remained unchanged as he pulled Cheng Muyun's hand down. "If it weren't for me, the Cheng family would probably still be in the dark. How could this be considered a scheme?"

The two faced off, Cheng Muyun glaring fiercely at Chen Hede. After a long while, he finally released his grip and gave him a push.

Chen Hede took a step back and stood still when Xu Zhuohua suddenly rushed out and slapped him across the face.

Xu Zhuohua's hands trembled painfully, and her arms hung down, shaking unnaturally.

This knocked Chen Hede unconscious. He raised his hand to cover his face, staring blankly at the ground with disbelief on his face.

Cheng Muyun grabbed Xu Zhuohua's hand. "Zhuohua?"

Xu Zhuohua admitted that she had acted impulsively, but she was still furious when she heard Chen Hede admit to kidnapping her.

I feel like he got off easy with that slap.

It was clearly a matter between the two men, yet they went and kidnapped her!

Given Chen Hede's current state, Xu Zhuohua had no belief that he would ever be a good person.

Using someone else to do your dirty work—that's disgusting!

"You dare kidnap me!"

Chen Hede raised his eyes and stared at Xu Zhuohua. His gaze, which had been filled with doubt, turned sinister and sharp, like a needle piercing Xu Zhuohua.

He was filled with murderous intent. How could anyone swallow such an insult when a dignified deputy police chief was slapped in public by a woman?

But Xu Zhuohua was no ordinary woman; in her heart, everyone was equal, and she raised her hand again.

"You dare glare at me? I haven't even settled accounts with you yet, you bastard! Why don't you kidnap Miss Luo? Do you think I'm easy to bully?"

However, this time they missed. Chen Hede retreated, and Xu Zhuohua was pulled away by Cheng Muyun.

One slap was already unbelievable; there was absolutely no way Xu Zhuohua would slap her a second time.

Previously, Cheng Muyun only thought Xu Zhuohua was bold, but this time he truly witnessed what it meant for a newborn calf to be fearless!

Cheng Muyun covered Xu Zhuohua's mouth to prevent her from saying anything even more shocking.

Chen Hede was stunned for a moment, then immediately realized what was happening. He bowed deeply and said, "I'm sorry, Miss Xu, it's all my fault."

Xu Zhuohua bit Cheng Muyun's hand, and the man let go in pain. Xu Zhuohua straightened her clothes, glared angrily at Chen Hede, turned around and sat down in a chair, poured herself a cup of tea and drank it, then turned away and ignored the two of them.

Birds of a feather flock together!

There was a commotion outside the door, and Cheng Muyun's men dragged a man bound like a worm into the yard.

"Young Marshal, this is Huang Sanchong."

The man was beaten beyond recognition, his face bruised and swollen, and his mouth stuffed with rags.

Cheng Muyun glanced at it disdainfully, "How did it get like this?"

"Disobedient."

"Can we still ask questions now?"

Zhang Qi stepped forward and raised his foot to stomp on Huang Sanchong's face. Huang Sanchong immediately twisted his body and whimpered.

"Young Marshal, may I ask you questions?"

Cheng Muyun nodded, and Zhang Qi took the rag out of Huang Sanchong's mouth. Huang Sanchong immediately begged for mercy.

"Master! Master! Stop hitting me! I'll tell you everything! It was all Young Master Liang who made me do it—giving money to those high-ranking officials and selling opium! I'll tell you everything!"

Cheng Muyun frowned. "Where did the opium come from?"

"Foreigners! They were all brought in by foreigners."

Chen Hede said, "Customs will absolutely not allow it to pass."

Huang Sanchong: "The customs in Xinhai City are strict, but Dongzhou doesn't care. As long as it's foreign goods, they can be brought ashore."

Xu Zhuohua immediately perked up his ears. Transporting goods from Dongzhou was inconvenient by any route except—the southern route eastward.

No wonder the Xu family has become more prosperous the more wars have raged in recent years; it turns out they've been involved in this kind of shady business.

Cheng Muyun also realized something, but instead of asking how they were brought in, he asked, "Where are they all hidden?"

Huang Sanchong: "In the east of the city, behind the French church, there is a large warehouse there."

Chen Hede asked, "With all the tension these past few days, are the items still there?"

Huang Sanchong: "Yes, everything is there. No one dares to inspect the French church, so the things have been there untouched."
