The First Madam's face immediately darkened. "Xu Zhuohua, don't push your luck. It's rare that Cheng Muyun would even look at you and be willing to form an alliance. You'll live a life of luxury after you marry him. What are you still complaining about?"
Xu Zhuohua retorted, "Sorry, I won't accept this courtesy!"
Xu Zhuohua knew exactly what the Xu family was thinking.
The Eastbound and Southbound routes are so valuable that if the Xu family really wants to relinquish them to protect themselves, there are plenty of people willing to take them over.
However, those willing to take over were even more greedy than Cheng Muyun.
With Xu Zhuohua around, if Cheng Muyun wants Xu Zhuohua to marry him, then the Xu family can gain more benefits.
Moreover, with Cheng Muyun as their son-in-law, it won't be difficult for the Xu family to gain a foothold in Xinhai City.
This collaboration is a win-win situation for both parties.
The only person overlooked was Xu Zhuohua, the person involved.
I don't want to die!
This is the only idea that Xu Zhuohua has always held onto.
Xu Shi Nong was also somewhat angry, "What exactly do you want to do? Do you want to watch the Xu family completely decline?"
Xu Zhuohua shook her head. "I have no such idea. There are many ways for the Xu family to save itself. Why should I be dragged into this?"
"Cheng Muyun has power, family background, and is devoted to you. He's a man you'd be hard to find even with a lantern. What a wonderful match he is! Why won't you agree?"
The First Madam was truly baffled. If Cheng Muyun hadn't insisted on having Xu Zhuohua, she would have wanted Xu Minghua to marry Cheng Muyun.
Xu Zhuohua found it laughable. A good ending?
Were they burned to a crisp by the mob?
Although Cheng Muyun did not intend to kill the protesters, he still bore the infamy, and history books will record it that way.
So history won't change, no matter who you become or whether you did this or not.
“Cheng Muyun ordered a massacre in the street. Is he a good match? He might face retaliation later. I don’t want to marry someone like that.”
Xu Shi Nong slammed her hand on the table. "Nonsense! Since ancient times, marriage has always been arranged by parents and matchmakers. How can you be so picky!"
The First Madam chimed in, "If you keep making a fuss, I'll marry you off to an old man who hasn't cut his queue."
Xu Zhuohua raised her chin. "Do you dare? Marry me off to an old man? You can try and see if Cheng Muyun agrees."
Xu Shinong and the First Madam remained silent; they indeed dared not, and Cheng Muyun would not agree either.
"Then we'll tie you up and hand you over to Cheng Muyun. If the Xu family can't deal with you, does that mean the Cheng family can't either?" The First Madam's vicious expression was no different from that of Rong Momo.
"Alright, let's tie her up then. What if I'm not afraid of a fight to the death between Cheng Muyun and me!"
Xu Shih-nong stood up and accused, "How did you become like this? You used to be such an obedient child!"
Before the original owner was twelve years old, she lived in the Xu family. She was well-mannered and did whatever she was asked to do. She rarely left the house and was more like a young lady than the lively and active Xu Minghua.
However, the child's innocence and liveliness almost drove the original owner to depression.
Later, she was sent to a nunnery, where she was bullied to death.
Even people with autism will rebel!
"Before?" Xu Zhuohua scoffed, "It's rare that you still remember what I looked like before, Master. I've forgotten myself. Now my mind is full of the six years in the nunnery. I only remember the path from the meditation room to the well."
Xu Shih-nong's face showed disbelief, "Are you resenting me for sending you to the temple?"
"How could I dare? The Xu family raised me for twelve years, and I prayed for their well-being for six years. Have I repaid them? If not, I'll go to a nunnery for another six years, okay?"
Enraged, Xu Shi slapped Xu Zhuohua across the face.
The tinnitus sounded like an alarm in Xu Zhuohua's brain. She saw Xu Jixin's terrified face, Xu Shinong being stopped by Xu Jixiao, and the room in complete chaos.
"Unfilial descendants!" Xu Shi Nong cursed.
The entire Xu family heard it.
"Lock her up! No one is allowed to see her without my order, until she agrees to marry!"
In the dark and damp cellar, only a small window let in moonlight.
Xu Zhuohua sat on the ground, hugging her knees.
Despite trying her best to hold back her grievances, tears still streamed down her face.
If Heaven has eyes, it should have let me die in the emergency room instead of sending me to this dark era.
This body felt wronged, and the painful memories from the temple became clearer and clearer, making Xu Zhuohua unable to distinguish whether she was feeling sorry for herself or for the original owner of the body.
Xu Zhuohua cried herself to sleep.
I had a very realistic dream.
She still married Cheng Muyun in a Western-style wedding. Many people came to offer their blessings, and she smiled happily.
Cheng Muyun treats her very well; he's practically a model husband. She could have anything she wanted.
He never flirted with other women, nor was he moody. The two of them ate dinner together, danced together, and lived a wonderful life as a couple.
A fire broke out, trapping Xu Zhuohua in her room, while a mob outside threatened to burn her alive.
No matter how hard Xu Zhuohua tried, she couldn't open the door. The fire was spreading very quickly, and she was choking and couldn't breathe.
A beam crashed down on her.
Xu Zhuohua suddenly woke up!
Light shone through the small window, and the wind rustled outside.
It was already evening of the second day.
Xu Zhuohua was starving and had no strength left. She leaned against the wall, feeling miserable.
She couldn't just sit and wait to die; she wanted to escape.
Another night has passed.
Xu Shih-nong was really angry this time. No one came to see Xu Zhuohua, not even to offer her a sip of water.
