The Japanese man fell to the ground, not yet unconscious, and screamed in pain, raising his gun and aiming it at Xu Zhuohua.
Xu Zhuohua immediately crouched down, a gunshot rang out, but he missed, so he reloaded.
This time, Xu Zhuohua directly twisted the Japanese man's wrist.
A gunshot rang out, and the Japanese man shot himself in the chin.
It pierced straight through the top of the head.
The man with the tanned beard died.
Xu Zhuohua's hands trembled as she released the man, and she stood there helplessly.
The next second, Boss Huo appeared at the door of the private room. When he saw the bloodstains on the ground, he was so frightened that he clutched his chest and gasped for breath.
"My dear aunt, come with me!"
Boss Huo grabbed Xu Zhuohua's hand and pulled her out. The two had just reached the stairs when the others came up.
The two had no choice but to run to the third floor, and Boss Huo kept pulling Xu Zhuohua into Hu Moli's room.
"Miss Hu, keep an eye on Miss Xu, I have to go downstairs to deal with this right away." Boss Huo dashed downstairs again, pretending to have just arrived.
The death of a Japanese soldier at the Paramount Ballroom is no small matter.
The Paramount Ballroom was quickly surrounded. Chen Hede represented the police department, and Cheng Muyun represented the military.
The two met at the door and went inside together.
Chen Hede asked with a hint of teasing, "Isn't Young Marshal Cheng planning to go to Dongzhou? How come he still has the leisure to come to the Paramount?"
Cheng Muyun's expression was unfriendly. "Isn't it all because of you that Xinghua came to the Paramount to teach dance, and Zhuohua followed her every day? I came here to pick her up."
Chen Hede nodded, "The Japanese have already taken control of the scene. It won't be so easy for Young Marshal Cheng to take them away."
"I don't care. If anything happens to Zhuohua, I will hold you responsible."
Chen Hede laughed and said, "There's no way Miss Xu could have killed a Japanese person, right?"
The two went in full of confidence, only to be stopped at the stairwell by Boss Huo.
"What! Say that again!" Cheng Muyun grabbed Boss Huo's collar.
“Everything I said is true. It was indeed Miss Xu who did it. If they really investigate, you two should be careful.”
Chen Hede's face scrunched up. "Damn it! She just keeps running into all sorts of bad luck."
Cheng Muyun's chest heaved with anger. "Where are Zhuo Renhua?"
"I heard the first gunshot coming from Miss Xu's private room, so I rushed over immediately. Before she even came up, I took Miss Xu to Hu Moli's room on the third floor."
"Are there any witnesses?" Cheng Muyun asked.
"A dancer."
Cheng Muyun immediately said, "Silence them."
Chen Hede frowned. "I'm afraid that won't work. The person who died today was a major in the Japanese puppet army. His men have already taken control of the witnesses."
"Yes, that girl was terrified," Boss Huo added.
Cheng Muyun bit his lip, suppressing his anger, "Take me to Zhuohua first."
The three of them quietly went upstairs. Boss Huo knocked gently on the door, and Hu Moli opened it. Cheng Muyun couldn't wait any longer and pushed the door open.
Xu Zhuohua was startled by the sudden sound and flinched, then was embraced by a warm and familiar hug.
She immediately realized that the person who came was Cheng Muyun.
“Cheng Muyun.” Xu Zhuohua’s voice trembled.
Hearing this, Cheng Muyun's heart broke.
The person in his arms trembled incessantly, their fingers gripping Cheng Muyun's arm tightly, trying to find some warmth.
When Xu Zhuohua actually killed someone with his own hands, his mind went blank, and all he saw was endless darkness.
It looked as if it was about to devour her at any moment.
"It's okay, it's okay, I'm here," Cheng Muyun kept reassuring her.
Xu Zhuohua had to admit that Cheng Muyun's arrival had dispelled the darkness before her eyes.
“I don’t know what happened, but that person just barged in, and then he tried to tear my clothes and shoot me.”
Xu Zhuohua hugged him tighter and tighter, and Cheng Muyun also hugged his petite figure with all her might.
Chen Hede asked, "Did he fire the gun himself?"
"Yeah, he tried to shoot me the first time but missed. Then he tried to shoot me a second time, so I went to grab it, but he shot himself."
As Xu Zhuohua recalled the incident, she became even more frightened and desperately hid in Cheng Muyun's arms.
Cheng Muyun gently patted Xu Zhuohua's back to comfort her.
Chen Hede asked, "Is there anything else?"
This immediately enraged Cheng Muyun, who said, "It's all because of you that I invited Xinghua to the Paramount Ballroom; otherwise, this wouldn't have happened."
Cheng Muyun was genuinely terrified. What if the Japanese man had missed his target on the first shot? Then he would be holding a cold corpse in his arms right now.
Xu Zhuohua, however, caught the key point: "Was that job posting deliberately shown to me?"
Chen Hede pursed his lips. "You're not short of money, so Mr. Huo and I came up with this idea."
Seeing that Chen Hede was in the wrong, Boss Huo also stood up to speak for him, "It was my idea, Miss Xu, blame me if you want to."
Cheng Muyun turned his head and said, "Fine, go and take the blame in front of the Japanese."
Boss Huo was stunned for a moment and looked at Chen Hede.
Chen Hede said helplessly, "Now that there are witnesses, it's no use even if Boss Huo takes the blame."
Xu Zhuohua hugged Cheng Muyun tightly from behind, "Cheng Muyun, I won't be executed, will I?"
"No, I'm here, everything will be fine." Cheng Muyun said gently, "I will protect your safety. Just stay here and be good, I will handle everything."
Upon hearing that Cheng Muyun was leaving, Xu Zhuohua hugged him tightly again, saying, "No, don't go."
Cheng Muyun patted Xu Zhuohua's head. "Okay, good girl, I won't leave."
Chen Hede glanced at the time. "I'll go down and try to mediate."
