Chapter 72 The Dancer Who Took the Blame

Chen Hede paused almost imperceptibly, then quickly asked Boss Huo, "Boss Huo, why didn't you mention such important news?"

Boss Huo swallowed hard. "This room was indeed reserved, but the guest didn't come today. Maybe the staff forgot to change it. After all, it's normal for some guests to make reservations but not show up."

Takejiro persisted, saying, "Now that the Paramount Ballroom is sealed off, we'll check them one by one."

Chen Hede smiled and said, "Of course, my people will investigate immediately."

Takejiro said, "Actually, there's no need to trouble Deputy Director Chen. My people have already started the investigation."

Knowing that Cheng Muyun and Xu Zhuohua were together, Chen Hede felt at ease.

"Mr. Miyata is joking. Investigating cases is the police station's business. How can we trouble the Imperial Army? Besides, it's probably against the rules for the Imperial Army to surround the Paramount so openly. Please, Mr. Miyata, act quickly."

They neither condemned Miyata Takejiro's actions nor stopped him.

Chen Hede is very tactful.

When Takejiro learned that his elder brother had been killed, he was clearly furious, but Chen Hede understood him. After being suppressed by Taketaro for so long, he was probably excited.

"May I question the suspect?"

Since Chen Hede didn't directly make things difficult for him, Takejiro was naturally willing to cooperate, saying, "Please go ahead."

When Chen Hede entered the room, he was so frightened that he didn't know what to do for the first time in his life.

Because Cheng Muyun was holding a gun, the dark muzzle pointed at the dancer.

Chen Hede stepped forward to grab it, but Cheng Muyun pushed him away with a punch, yelling, "Get out of the way!"

“You can’t kill her. Takejiro’s army has already surrounded this place. Killing her will expose us.”

Cheng Muyun raised his gun again, "Keeping her alive will expose her."

“I will not betray her!” the dancer said.

Both of them were taken aback.

The dancer, who had been cowering in fear just moments before, now stood ramrod straight and repeated, "I will not betray the person who saved me."

Chen Hede pressed down on Cheng Muyun's gun, saying, "This dancer is one of my people. Miss Xu helped her before."

The dancer explained, "Yes, Miss Xu draped clothes over me when I was arrested, and I am very grateful to her. She saved me again today, so I will not betray her."

Cheng Muyun remembered that on the night Xu Zhuohua went missing, she said she had lent her clothes to someone else.

"So how do you plan to protect her?" Cheng Muyun asked.

The dancer said, "I will turn myself in."

Chen Hede said, "But it's hard to explain to Takejiro now. He doesn't believe you did it and thinks you have accomplices."

The dancer said, "Taketaro's death was an accident. He shot himself. I can say that I did it. I'm the one who smashed the vase."

Chen Hede nodded. "This is the only way to do it now."

Cheng Muyun was a little worried, "Do you know the consequences of doing this?"

The dancer raised her eyes. "I know, it's nothing more than death."

"You dare to die for her?"

The dancer smiled bitterly and said, "Miss Xu once treated me with respect, and today she accidentally killed Taketaro while trying to save me. I will not let Miss Xu suffer such an undeserved disaster. It would be my honor to die for Miss Xu."

Cheng Muyun pulled a dagger from his pocket. "Okay."

The dancer took it, tears welling in her eyes. "Before I die, I want to ask you for one thing, sir."

Chen Hede said, "I will take good care of your family."

Cheng Muyun also said, "I will also take care of your family."

Tears streamed down the dancer's face. "Thank you, gentlemen. Please don't tell Miss Xu. I don't want her to be sad for me."

Cheng Muyun paused for a moment, then nodded.

Those who sacrifice their lives for righteousness are few and far between, let alone those who die for others.

Chen Hede brought the dancer to Takejiro, "and she confessed."

Takejiro looked at the dancer's frail figure and said, "How is that possible? My brother was a soldier in the Imperial Army. How could he be killed by a woman?"

Cheng Muyun said, "It would be alright if she could recount the events of the case."

Takejiro looked at Cheng Muyun and said, "I know you, the young marshal of the Dongzhou Army."

Cheng Muyun said coldly, "Today I represent the military."

Takejiro's tone was noticeably more confrontational towards Cheng Muyun: "Does your army intend to suppress the Imperial Army?"

Cheng Muyun retorted, "Mr. Miyata has violated the contract by sending troops without authorization within the territory of Xinhai City."

Takejiro slammed his fist on the table. "If Imperial Army soldiers die here, how can the Imperial Army not mobilize?"

"If the Imperial Army has been mobilized, how could the troops from Shinkai Castle not come?"

Takejiro looked at Cheng Muyun with such hatred that he wanted to kill him. Chen Hede stepped forward and said, "Mr. Miyata, Young Marshal Cheng is just following orders and will not obstruct the investigation."

Cheng Muyun snorted coldly, turned around, and didn't want to look at Takejiro's face anymore.

Chen Hede was forced to act as a peacemaker, suggesting, "It would be better to interrogate the suspect first."

Takejiro, however, said, "I want to take her away for questioning."

Heaven knows what methods Takejiro will use to finish the interrogation, and it's hard to say whether the dancers can endure the torture.

Chen Hede said, "No, she should be taken back to the police station, and the case should be investigated before she is sentenced."

Takejiro frowned. "Is Deputy Director Chen trying to protect her?"

Chen Hede said, "No, it's just that the suspect just confessed that Mr. Miyata Taketaro accidentally shot and killed him, so we still need to continue the investigation."

Takejiro clearly wasn't going to back down. "I must take this person with me."

"You can take it, but not now."

Neither of them would back down, and the dancer began to tense up. She gripped the dagger she had hidden in her hand and looked at the two men with fear.

Cheng Muyun noticed something was wrong with the dancer and wondered how to resolve the situation.

Suddenly, two Japanese soldiers entered through the door and whispered a bunch of gibberish into Takejiro's ear.

Takejiro looked up, his smile chilling. "My brother's men said there were witnesses who said this room was occupied from the beginning."

Suddenly, the dancer pulled out a dagger and charged at Takejiro with a scream. Before she could stab him, she was pushed away. She raised the dagger and charged again.

A gunshot rang out...

The gun in Cheng Muyun's hand was emitting white smoke. The dancer was shot in the head and lay on the ground, her eyes filled with hatred.

Takejiro grabbed Cheng Muyun by the collar, "Why did you kill her?"

Cheng Muyun sneered: "She wanted to kill you, I was protecting Miyata-kun."

"Kuso! She can't hurt me at all, you're doing this on purpose!"

Hearing the commotion, the people from all three parties rushed in.

As soon as Cheng Muyun's men saw him being grabbed by the collar, they raised their guns and pointed them at Takejiro.

Takejiro's men raised their guns and aimed them at Cheng Muyun.

The two sides were deadlocked and tensions were high.

Chen Hede covered his forehead. "Gentlemen, please don't be angry. We can talk things over."

The two glared fiercely at each other, neither willing to let go. Chen Hede then grasped Takejiro's hand and separated them.

He patted Cheng Muyun's arm again, and Cheng Muyun reluctantly gestured for his men to put away their guns.

"Investigate! Who is this person in the room!" Takejiro shouted.
