Chapter 8 Staying Overnight at the Xu Family's House

Good heavens!

Xu Zhuohua suddenly stood up, slammed his hands on the table, and then frantically yanked off the wooden sticks supporting the window. With a bang, the window slammed shut.

Cheng Muyun raised an eyebrow slightly, thinking to himself, "This is extremely interesting."

Xu Zhuohua, like a man caught peeping at a woman taking a bath, stood blankly in front of the closed window, clutching his pounding heart.

Cheng Muyun is more handsome than contemporary movie stars. If Xu Zhuohua didn't know about Cheng Muyun's story, she probably would have been smitten long ago.

But she knew that the more beautiful someone was, the more dangerous they were.

Xu Zhuohua gripped the corner of the table tightly, a piercing pain shooting through her palm. She had to remind herself not to succumb, not to become obsessed, to save herself, to live, to stay away from Cheng Muyun, and to find a way to live until the dawn.

Xu Zhuohua wanted to settle down, but some people didn't want things to be peaceful.

At the banquet, the men's and women's tables were separated by a four-panel screen with floral and bird motifs, completely blocking everyone from view.

None of Xu Shi Nong's beautiful and charming concubines were seated at the table.

Through the candlelight casting shadows, Xu Zhuohua saw Xu Shinong and Cheng Muyun drinking to their hearts' content. The eldest son of the Xu family was chatting with Cheng Muyun about the foreigners in the concession, the newly opened Japanese tavern, and the dancers of the new world.

They showed no regard for the women behind the screen.

The First Madam sat upright, eating without changing her expression, while her sister-in-law beside her looked petty and unassuming, remaining silent and moving very slowly.

Xu Minghua, filled with righteous indignation, slammed his fist on the table and said angrily, "Those foreigners are all bad people, they're all cancerous!"

The First Madam smacked her fist with her chopsticks. "Keep your thoughts to yourself. Don't you know what time it is? Don't say things you shouldn't say."

Xu Minghua pouted and muttered, "What time is it now? It's a critical moment of life and death."

The First Madam was about to tap Xu Minghua on the head when she heard Xu Zhuohua chuckle.

Although Xu Zhuohua had a bad impression of Xu Minghua, she admired her sincere heart.

Xu Minghua stared wide-eyed. "What are you laughing at? A little nun who doesn't know anything."

Xu Zhuohua didn't argue with him and ate on her own. This was the best meal she had eaten since she transmigrated, even though it tasted similar to the school cafeteria.

The First Madam feigned concern, saying, "Shuhua is leaving home tomorrow, so eat more. You won't be able to eat home-cooked meals anymore."

Looking at the fish that had been placed in her bowl, Xu Zhuohua frowned, thinking to herself, "You talk as if you've ever eaten your Xu family's food before. It's nothing compared to a hamburger and cola."

Having been hungry for so long, Xu Zhuohua ate everything without hesitation, devouring a lot of food in a whirlwind. In the end, Xinghua helped her back to the courtyard.

The First Madam watched the two figures disappear, a smile spreading across her lips. She beckoned to Hu Niang and asked, "Is everything settled?"

Hu Niang bent down and whispered in the First Madam's ear, "Everything is taken care of. The tea for both of them has been drugged, and incense has been lit in the room. Tonight, we'll definitely be able to consummate the relationship."

The First Madam's eyes were sinister. "Set the fire at the perfect moment, so that the firefighters will discover the affair, but don't hurt the Cheng family member."

Hu Niang nodded and turned to go to the backyard.
