Chapter 36 Shen Xiaohua is a traitor

Chen was exhausted from cursing, but neither Niu nor Lü came out.

The members of the first and third branches of the family looked rather grim when they heard Chen's shouts and curses.

Chen Yuzi asked Niu Shi, "Mother, why isn't Third Aunt cooking? If you ask me, my eldest brother has become the top scholar in the imperial examination, so the third branch of the family shouldn't even think about benefiting from it."

Niu felt a little guilty. After the second wife left, it was agreed that the housework would be shared by the first and third wives each for one day.

Although Madam Lü was lazy, her third wife had an unmarried daughter named Shen Xiaohua, who did all the work very well.

But only Niu Shi did the work in the main house. Shen Yuzi had never done these kinds of work since she was a child, and Niu Shi couldn't bear to let her do it.

She wanted her daughter to marry into a wealthy family in the city.

If you get calluses on your hands, that's a serious problem.

Her son is a future top scholar; a country bumpkin like him doesn't match their social standing at all.

Then people will laugh at him for having a country bumpkin as his brother-in-law.

She couldn't let her daughter hold her son back.

"How dare you say that? The third branch of the family has Xiaohua to do the work. When have you ever let your third aunt lay a hand on her?"

Feeling wronged by what Niu Shi said, Shen Yuzi's eyes immediately reddened.

Feeling sorry for her, Niu dared not say anything harsh again.

The third branch of the family.

Shen Xiaohua frowned: "Mom, are you really not going to tell Grandma? Yesterday it was our third branch that cooked, and today it's the eldest branch's turn. What does it have to do with us? If you don't tell Grandma, she'll drag us into the scolding, and all the neighbors will hear it. We'll lose face."

Mrs. Lü: "You know how unreasonable your grandmother is. If I go out to explain, do you think she'll listen? She'll just think I'm shirking my responsibilities. Once I go out, I can't escape; she'll drag me to the kitchen to cook."

At this point, Chen was also somewhat regretful. She had driven away the second wife, and now there was no one to do the housework or the farm work. Back then, with all those free laborers working for the Shen family, she had never gone hungry.

If she had been willing to pay that day, the second wife wouldn't have been forced out, and the whole affair wouldn't have come to light.

The more she thought about it, the more frustrated she became, and she plopped down on the ground.

Grandma, what are you doing sitting on the ground?

Is she hallucinating from hunger? Why is it the book talking?

Chen turned her head and immediately spotted Shen Yushu.

Shen Yushu tried to help her up, but she wouldn't get up. Instead, she sat on the ground and wailed, "Shu'er, Grandma is old and useless. Let Grandma die! Grandma hasn't eaten all day. Do they want to starve me to death?"

Upon hearing this, Shen Yushu frowned and said, "Grandma, get up first. I'll go and settle accounts with them."

After helping Chen Shi into the house, Shen Yushu went to the second house, an adobe house.

No one was there.

He then turned and walked to the third room.

"Third Aunt, why don't you cook? Grandma is so old, can she go hungry? Do you want Grandma to take care of your whole family? That's unfilial."

Upon hearing this, Madam Lü was furious: "Shu-ge'er, it's your mother who doesn't cook, and your eldest son's family is lazy. What does it have to do with us? If we're talking about unfilial piety, your mother is the one who is the most unfilial."

Seeing that his third aunt dared to speak ill of his mother, Shen Yushu was momentarily speechless with anger: "You..."

What does this have to do with my mother?

Shen Xiaohua: "Yes, eldest cousin, it was agreed that the eldest and third branches of the family would each cook one day. Yesterday it was our third branch's turn, and today it's your eldest branch's turn. Why are you blaming my mother? You should talk to your aunt."

When Shen Yushu heard that the eldest and third wives were taking turns cooking, what about the second wife?

He went to the second room first and found that no one was in the room, but the things inside were still there.

"Where's Second Aunt? Didn't Second Aunt always take care of cooking?"

Madam Lü said irritably, "The second branch of the family is unfilial. They insisted on separating and made your grandmother so angry that she almost died. Now look what's happened, there's no one to do the work in the fields, and weeds still have to be removed."

Lu's words immediately enraged Shen Yushu.

Is that true?

He was studying in town and hadn't been home for half a month when so many things happened at home.

I never expected my second uncle to be so heartless.

It seems that once he becomes the top scholar in the imperial examination, his second wife's family will have no chance to get close to him.

"Third Aunt, you should cook first today. The whole family is waiting for this meal. I'll try to persuade my mother to take turns cooking from now on. Thank you for your help, Third Aunt."

Since Shen Yushu had spoken, Madam Lü still gave him face. After all, he was a good student, and the third branch of the family had invested a lot in him. They couldn't afford to turn against him at this moment.

Of course, Ms. Lü would never do it, so the cooking job naturally fell to Shen Xiaohua.

Shen Yushu then asked where the second wife lived, and then angrily went to settle accounts with them.

"Mom, I can cook, but how can you talk like that? It's clearly Grandma who's in the wrong regarding Uncle's family. When has Uncle ever been unfilial? How can you be so unreasonable?"

Lady Lü: "You brat, when did you learn to talk back? I'll beat you to death!"

"Go ahead and hit me. It would be better if you killed me. If you kill me or cripple me, who will do your laundry and cook for you?"

Upon hearing this, Lady Lü lowered her raised hand, but still couldn't help muttering:

"You ill-mannered brat, with your awful appearance, who would want you in the future?"

"It's better if no one wants me, so I won't suffer like Sister Yulan when I get married."

She had heard from others that Sister Yulan was beaten every day in her husband's family because she couldn't have children, and that she was living a life of hell on earth.

"You...you...how could I have given birth to such a traitorous brat like you?"

Shen Xiaohua was used to her mother talking to her like that, so she simply stopped talking back, lifted the curtain, and left.

Shen Yushu stormed out of the house, determined to settle scores with his second uncle.

Without not paying attention, I bumped into the person in front of me.

"Are you blind? Don't you even watch where you're going?"

The person on the other end remained silent.

Shen Yushu smelled the aroma of meat.

It smells so good.

He immediately spotted someone holding a bowl of braised meat. The braised meat was reddish-brown and tender, looking incredibly tempting, which made him involuntarily swallow.

Shen Yushu's stomach rumbled a few times as she bumped her way home. Her stomach was empty; she was starving.

I really want to eat it!

"Have you seen enough? If you have, then move aside."

Only then did Shen Yushu realize what was happening.

etc.

He thought he heard Shen Yu'an's voice.

However, this cannot be blamed on him. Shen Yu'an is almost a head taller than him, and he was walking with his head down, so it is normal that he did not see Shen Yu'an.

Could it be that my cousin gave it to my grandmother?

If the braised meat was a gift for his grandmother, it would undoubtedly end up in his stomach.

My second uncle has separated from the family; will he still be able to afford meat?

Looks like they took a lot of the good stuff from the house.

No, he has to find a way to get it back.

Seeing that Shen Yushu had stopped talking, Shen Yu'an didn't bother arguing with him and walked around him.

Where's the meat?

Shen Yushu was not paying attention and the braised meat disappeared.

He quickly turned around; he couldn't let others have the braised meat. He had to go back and finish the meat first before settling accounts with the second wife.

But what did he see?

Shen Yu'an actually bypassed Old Shen's house and went to Aunt Zhang's house next door.

His eyes widened in disbelief!
