Chapter 44: Picking Up the Paintbrush Again

Chapter 44: Picking Up the Paintbrush Again

Ji Xing probably also intended to separate Lu Zhou and Lin Zhao.

When Lin Zhao wanted to go out with Lu Zhou, she found that Lu Zhou and Ji Xing had already left.

So she could only go to the seaside with Fu Yansheng to see the scenery.

The area was surrounded by small towns, and Fu Yansheng even took Lin Zhao to eat something in one of those towns.

Living by the sea, this restaurant is the highest-rated shop in the town.

Lin Zhao took a bite, and his eyes lit up. He then pointed to the dish in front of him and said, "It's delicious, Brother Fu, you should try it."

Fu Yansheng smiled, then took a bite and nodded.

"Oh, right, I just saw a craft shop next door. I can buy some crafts to take back and give to Lin Rong and the others."

Fu Yansheng spoke.

Fu Yansheng had seen it when he entered the store. Lin Zhao had asked him what he could buy to give to the Lin family, so he told him.

Lin Zhao was surprised that Fu Yansheng had considered things so thoroughly, and nodded quickly upon hearing this.

“That’s definitely possible! Brother Fu is even more thoughtful than I am. We’ll go take a look after we finish eating; we’re free this afternoon.”

Lin Zhao smiled and slowly ate the food in front of her.

Fu Yansheng looked at the documents on his phone, glancing up at Lin Zhao every now and then.

After Lin Zhao finished eating, she saw that Fu Yansheng had finished eating early and was sending messages to the other side of the phone.

Just as Lin Zhao put down her chopsticks, Fu Yansheng handed her a prepared sheet of paper.

Seeing Lin Zhao take the phone, Fu Yansheng put his own phone away.

He accompanied Lin Zhao to the nearby craft shop.

The shop sells a wide variety of items, including silver jewelry and some sea-related specialties.

As soon as Lin Zhao entered, he noticed the scent of the sea mixed with a hint of sandalwood. There were few other guests inside, and it was very quiet.

Lin Zhao looked at it for a while, then picked up something and asked Fu Yansheng if it was suitable for Lin Rong.

This is a beautifully crafted little pendant, a decorative item that can be hung in a car, with a very auspicious meaning.

Fu Yansheng thought it was quite good. The Lin family lived some distance from the company. Although there was a driver for commuting, Lin Rong would occasionally drive herself.

It's perfect to keep in the car.

Lin Zhao then chose gifts for her parents, but hesitated when selecting a gift for Lin Xian.

I picked out several, but none of them really felt quite right.

Fu Yansheng stood beside Lin Zhao and gave her advice.

"The painting above is quite beautiful."

Fu Yansheng was referring to an oil painting, in which the sun and the horizon shone with orange light, gleaming over the sea.

Lin Zhao glanced at it and agreed that it was indeed beautiful.

"Indeed, but this art style looks somewhat familiar to me."

Lin Zhao spoke softly.

When the shop owner saw people coming in, he quickly told the two girls to look around as they pleased.

The two girls looked quite young, but as soon as they came in, they went to look at the painting. They were looking at the same one that Lin Zhao and the others had been looking at, so they must have seen the painting outside.

Upon seeing this, the shop owner quickly explained, "This painting wasn't painted by anyone from around here. My son went abroad, attended an art exhibition, thought it was beautiful, and bought it to bring back with him."

When Lin Zhao heard about the art exhibition, she suddenly remembered what kind of painting it was.

Lin Zhao had painted many paintings before, but after some were sold at a later exhibition, Lin Zhao did not know what happened to those paintings.

Too much time had passed, and Lin Zhao no longer knew whether she had painted the picture herself.

I was just about to take out my phone to look at old photos.

The girl next to me spoke up.

"Didn't they post this painting on social media before? It seems to have been painted by a young artist from country X who was still in school at the time. I couldn't buy it back then."

"I must buy this painting."

The girl's tone was certain.

Lin Zhao happened to see the drawing he had drawn before. After confirming that it was his own drawing, Lin Zhao's gaze fell on the girl next to him.

The shop owner next to him looked a bit conflicted. After all, Lin Zhao had come to see it first, and there should be a proper order of arrival.

"It's alright, boss. If this young lady likes it, just sell it to her."

Lin Zhao didn't care.

Looking at the unpolished style of the artwork above.

This reminded Lin Zhao of how he used to jump between different styles back then.

This painting was also painted by him when he went to the beach years ago.

Lin Zhao watched as the girl held the painting, looking quite happy.

It looked like it loved it so much.

"Thank you. I really like this artist. It's just a pity that I've only seen his paintings on social media and haven't met him since. I never expected to see him in this store."

The girl was very happy and chatted with Lin Zhao for a few more minutes.

“I saw this painting outside the store, but I wasn’t sure at the time. I didn’t expect that when I came in, it was indeed the painting.”

"From what you're saying, this painting was done by a small-time artist, or even an art student who might not be painting anymore. So why do you like his painting?"

Lin Zhao's tone was puzzled as he looked at the girl.

The girl smiled and said, "I feel that it has a lot of inspiration. There have been very few art exhibitions in recent years with such bold color schemes, and I feel quite comfortable with the things this artist paints."

Lin Zhao was stunned when he heard the girl's answer.

Watching the girl pay and leave.

Lin Zhao turned to look at Fu Yansheng, seemingly surprised that someone would like his painting: "But when I sold it back then, the consignor said that my color scheme was too bold and not many people would like it."

In just a few short years, the aesthetic has unexpectedly reversed.

Lin Zhao was somewhat moved.

Fu Yansheng had just noticed the painting as well: "The color scheme is bold but beautiful. Besides, Zhao Zhao, you really loved painting back then, didn't you?"

Lin Zhao nodded. If it weren't for her own interests, she wouldn't have chosen to pursue further studies abroad.

However, after returning to China, Lin Zhao did not pick up a paintbrush for a long time.

Lin Zhao thought to herself, "Should I start drawing again?"

Anyway, Lin Zhao felt that she had nothing to do right now.

I go to work with Fu Yansheng every day, and spend a lot of time watching TV dramas after get off work.

But eventually, you'll finish watching a TV series.

After all, most of the TV dramas these days are not to Lin Zhao's liking.

Lin Zhao was thinking about it when she asked Fu Yansheng for his opinion. Fu Yansheng nodded and said, "Sure, I look forward to attending Zhao Zhao's art exhibition someday."

Fu Yansheng had already decided to set aside a room in the villa for Lin Zhao to use as a studio.

I was thinking of having the art studio installed when I went home after the New Year.

After Lin Zhao selected the gift for Lin Xian, she and Fu Yansheng went directly back to the hotel, where the hotel would deliver all the gifts to Fu Yansheng's villa.

Fu Yansheng then had another set of painting supplies delivered to Lin Zhao's room.

After leaving Fu Yansheng's room, Lin Zhao returned to her own room and immediately saw the painting supplies placed in front of the French windows.

After inquiring with Fu Yansheng, I learned that it was Fu Yansheng's arrangement.

Lin Zhao couldn't help but curl the corners of her lips into a smile.

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, I picked up my long-neglected paintbrush and began to paint while gazing at the sea.

Lin Zhao only stopped writing and opened the door when Fu Yansheng knocked on it.

Fu Yansheng wanted to ask Lin Zhao what she wanted to eat for dinner.

As a result, seeing Lin Zhao open the door with a paintbrush in her hand, Fu Yansheng followed her in.

Fu Yansheng walked up to Lin Zhao's easel and saw that Lin Zhao had already finished half of the painting.

It was a completely different sea surface from the one before.

"Brother Fu, look."

Lin Zhao added a few strokes with her paintbrush and then stopped painting.

Fu Yansheng nodded, his tone full of praise.

Lin Zhao felt a little embarrassed after hearing this.

"By the way, Brother Fu, is there something you need from me?"

Fu Yansheng glanced at the painting, which was already halfway finished, and said considerately, "I was thinking of asking what you would like to eat, and I'll bring it back for you, or you can order food directly from the hotel."

Upon hearing this, Lin Zhao subconsciously glanced at the time and realized it was already dinner time, so he suggested two dishes.

The hotel could do both of these things, and Lin Zhao felt that Fu Yansheng didn't need to go out and buy them himself.

Fu Yansheng simply asked the hotel staff to prepare and bring it up.

Lin Zhao took advantage of this time to continue painting instead of putting down her brush.

Lin Zhao only put down his paintbrush after the waiter pushed the food cart in, placed the food on the table, and left.

Lin Zhao glanced at the table and saw that Fu Yansheng had ordered almost all of his favorite dishes.

Lin Zhao gently rolled up her paint-stained sleeves and obediently ate the food in front of her.

Fu Yansheng asked Lin Zhao whether she wanted to paint or have a barbecue by the sea later that evening.

Lin Zhao thought for a moment and answered seriously, "I only have a few strokes left to finish. Once I'm done, we'll go out."

Fu Yansheng did not refuse.

She even had time to send Ji Xing a message, asking when they were going to the beach that night.

Ideally, the two teams should be separated.

Lin Zhao was unaware of Fu Yansheng's actions.

After finishing his meal quietly, he quickly picked up his paintbrush and continued painting.

Aside from being a little rusty with the paintbrush at first, Lin Zhao quickly regained the feel for painting that she used to have.

Lin Zhao is an artist who relies on inspiration; when she has inspiration, she can work for a whole day and night without rest.

But without inspiration, Lin Zhao didn't want to touch a single stroke.

However, what schools teach are just rules and regulations.

Lin Zhao disliked being restricted while painting, having to follow all sorts of rules.

After graduation, Lin Zhao never picked up a paintbrush again.

Fu Yansheng knew all of this.

It's very clear.

After all, the old Fu family mansion, Fu Yansheng's villa, still houses the paintings that Lin Zhao had entrusted to the art exhibition.

After finishing the painting, Lin Zhao left the room with Fu Yansheng.

As dusk approached outside the hotel, the sky was a beautiful tapestry of orange-red and dark blue intertwined.

Lin Zhao sat on a beach chair, enjoying the sea breeze and looking at the sea.

Fu Yansheng poured himself a glass of champagne and sat down next to Lin Zhao.

The sounds of tourists mingled in the distance. Lin Zhao closed her eyes slightly, feeling comfortable both physically and mentally at that moment.

Upon seeing this, Fu Yansheng took a sip of his champagne, stood up, and covered Lin Zhao's legs with the blanket he had been asked to buy.

Lu Zhou and Ji Xinglai saw Fu Yansheng carefully covering Lin Zhao, who was lying on a beach chair, with a blanket.

They looked like they had to be extremely careful.

"Zhaozhao, it's not dark yet, how about we play a game?"

Author's Note: There was a power outage yesterday afternoon, apparently caused by a high-voltage power line being accidentally broken, so I'm only finishing the update now. I'm so sorry, everyone! [crying emoji] The power was still on when I left home yesterday morning, but I fell asleep without charging my phone when I got back. I didn't wake up until the afternoon to find the power was out, and my phone only had 20% battery left. I didn't realize the power outage would last so long, so I didn't have time to ask for leave.
