Chapter 439 Surprise

Chapter 439 Surprise

After they both washed up, Xu Qingye looked at Song Yuntang.

"What would you like to eat in the morning?"

Song Yuntang thought about it.

"Is the wonton shop you took me to last time open so early?"

"I'm not sure, but we can go around over there and take a look." Xu Qingye said as he picked up the packed luggage.

Seeing this, Song Yuntang smiled and walked forward to hold his arm.

"Then let's go, I'm hungry."

The two of them have been spending time together every day during this period, and their relationship has become more and more natural.

Looking at her holding his hand, Xu Qingye raised the corners of his lips.

"good."

After the two put their luggage on the carriage, Xia Ning drove the carriage to the shop where they had eaten wontons last time.

Song Yuntang was not disappointed by the old lady's snack bar, as it was open when he arrived.

"Auntie, give me three bowls of wontons."

The old lady answered while wiping the stove.

"Okay, please wait a moment."

The wontons were ready, and Xia Ning took them to a table nearby. After the three of them finished eating the wontons, they set off for Lushan Village.

As soon as the carriage arrived at the entrance of the village, the sound of firecrackers was heard outside.

Song Yuntang lifted the curtain of the carriage, and almost everyone in the village gathered at the entrance of the village to welcome them.

"He's back, he's back. The first scholar in our village is back." Someone said excitedly.

Xu Qingye saw that his grandparents were all outside, and it would not be appropriate for him to sit in the carriage without his elders following him, so he led Song Yuntang out of the carriage.

"Grandpa, grandma, dad, mom."

Hu excitedly pulled his hand.

"I heard in the letter yesterday that you passed the exam. Your grandfather was so happy that he didn't sleep a wink all night."

Jiang held Song Yuntang's hand.

"Tang'er has made great contributions to Qingye's success today. If it weren't for you, I don't know what state his health would be in now."

Song Yuntang looked in the direction of Xu Qingye.

"We are all family now, so please don't say these things anymore."

"Oh, okay."

Jiang looked at the two of them, and when she thought of the things Xu Qingye asked her to prepare before he left, she couldn't hide the joy in her eyes.

"As soon as the letter about your success was delivered to our house yesterday, your grandfather bought a pig and said he would have a big feast and invite the whole village to a feast. Your uncle, aunt, and several other uncles and aunts are cooking in our house today. The food is almost ready, and we just need you to come."

Xu Yongwang was also there to greet them.

"Fellow villagers, come to my house today and have a meal. There will be plenty of wine and meat."

"good!"

Everyone was busy cheering and surrounding Xu Qingye and Song Yuntang as they returned home.

Many tables and chairs had been placed in the main hall and the yard. Song Yuntang was pulled to sit at the main table in the main hall with Xu Qingye. After everyone was seated, the dishes that had been prepared in the steamer in the kitchen were brought to the table one by one.

Xu Yongwang poured the wine.

Holding the wine glass and the wine jug, he went to the yard to toast everyone one by one.

Hearing all the flattery from the villagers, my soul almost flew up to heaven, and I drank glass after glass of wine with increasing excitement.

The men in the village were also drunk, and they raised their glasses to toast Xu Qingye.

They were all elders, and he couldn't refuse to drink when they toasted him, so he could only drink it in small sips, not much at each sip. However, there were many people in the village, and they took turns to toast him, so in half an hour, he had already drunk half a pot of wine.

Seeing this, Song Yuntang hurriedly instructed Xia Ning.

"Make a pot of hangover soup and put it in the pot to cool. When the party is almost over, give each person a bowl and let them drink it before leaving."

Most villagers have limited financial resources at home, and it is rare for them to drink as much as they did today.

There is plenty of wine now, so people drink without restraint.

In order to avoid any accidents, it would be safer to let them drink the sobering soup before leaving.

Xia Ning nodded and went to the kitchen to prepare.

After sitting in the main hall for an hour, Mrs. Hu could not bear it any longer, so she was supported by Mrs. Zhang and went back to the old house.

Brothers Xu Yongwang and Xu Yongfu went to the yard to drink with those middle-aged men.

Xu Yuande sat among a group of elderly people of similar age, talking and sipping wine, looking quite authoritative.

Xu Wencheng and his childhood playmates drank until they were red in the face and had already fallen on the table.

Jiang saw that something was not right, so she quickly called Xu Ayou's mother Qian to help carry Xu Wencheng into the house. She then called the families of the other children and sent these little drunkards home one by one.

Seeing that the men in the yard were still playing rock-paper-scissors and bragging, Song Yuntang, who had drunk a little, became a little restless. After saying something to Xu Qingye, she got up and went back to the house, slightly drunk.

As soon as he entered the house and saw the scene inside, a look of surprise appeared on his face.

To suit the occasion, all the bed sheets and quilt covers were changed to the bright red color used at the wedding.

There were also red wine jugs and wine glasses on the table, and two big red candles about as thick as her wrists stood upright on the desk.

However, because today was a special day and she was a little drunk, she didn't think much about it. After shaking her head, she curled up in a corner of the bed and fell asleep soon.

The sky gradually darkened and the guests in the courtyard had long since left.

After drinking the sobering soup, the drunk Xu Yongwang went to sleep in the house.

Song Yuntang slept all afternoon and didn't have time to eat dinner. Jiang was worried that she would not be able to bear the hunger at night, so she made her a bowl of dumplings when it was getting dark.

"Tang'er, it's getting dark. Eat something and wash up before going to bed." Jiang knocked gently on the door outside.

Song Yuntang opened his eyes dazedly, and it was already dark outside.

"Mom, wait a minute, I'll be there soon."

She got up quickly, fumbled for the tinder, lit the red candle on the table and opened the door first.

Just at this moment, Xu Qingye came into the room after washing up.

He quietly took the tinder from Song Yuntang and lit the other candle, making the room brighter.

Seeing this, Jiang smiled and handed the bowl of dumplings in her hand to Song Yuntang.

"Eat what's in the spoon first. The dumplings in the spoon have already cooled down."

Song Yuntang nodded, picked up the dumpling, took a bite, then spit it out with a frown.

"Mom, these dumplings are still raw."

Jiang became happy.

"Raw ones are fine." She said with a smile, "Only this one is raw, the others are cooked, just put this one aside."

She said, walking towards the door.

"There's water heating up on the stove, so I won't disturb you from resting."

Finally, he gave Xu Qingye a wink and went back to the house happily.

Song Yuntang realized it later and only felt his cheeks getting hot.

She looked in the direction of Xu Qingye.

"Why didn't you tell me in advance? I thought the decoration of the room today was because you passed the imperial examination."

Xu Qingye sat down at the table.

"I thought Tang'er could guess something after seeing the layout of the house."

Song Yuntang lowered his head and ate dumplings.

"I went into the house and fell asleep."

Xu Qingye pursed his lips and smiled.

"If I tell you, there will be no surprise."

Neither of them spoke after that. Xu Qingye watched her finish the dumplings, then watched her go out to wash up, change into clean clothes and come back to the house.

He picked up the wine jug and poured two glasses of wine, walked to the bed, and handed one of the glasses to Song Yuntang who was sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Tang'er, it's time to drink the wedding wine."
