Chapter 137 Double Ninth Festival

The next day, Yu Ge'er got up early. He didn't have to go to class that day, so he planned to pick some dogwood to put in his house. He had already made the dogwood sachets from yesterday. The sachets required ground, dried dogwood, and then stuffed them in. Once they were finished, they were tied around his waist, giving off a faint scent of dogwood.

Lin Yan happily accepted it. As he worked today, he could smell the fragrance of dogwood. The steamed chicken with mushrooms had been well-received since its release, and Lin Yan and Zhou Wan'an had increased the order to five chickens a day, still using ten sets of water. Lin Yan didn't have big ambitions, like expanding his shop. He was content with a small business and a monthly income of a dozen or so taels of silver.

Today is the Double Ninth Festival. Lin Yan wanted to finish work and go home early, so he reduced the portions of other dishes today. At three quarters after pm, all the ingredients were sold out. Lin Yan helped to clean up the mess and urged everyone to go home and celebrate the festival.

Li Yuemei had already killed and cooked a chicken at home. She waited until everyone in the family came back before she started to worship her ancestors. Lin Yan bought chrysanthemum wine yesterday, which he couldn't drink, but his family could.

Yu Ge'er poured a small cup and took a sip, then frowned and pushed it to Zhao Qiming. Zhao Qiming took it with a smile, drank it in one gulp, and sighed with satisfaction.

Li Yuemei chopped the duck meat into small pieces and made a soup with winter melon. Lin Yan liked the sweet winter melon and duck soup very much. He drank several bowls and ate a lot of duck meat, which made his stomach feel rounder.

"Okay, stop drinking. We still have Chongyang cake to eat in the evening." Zhao Shiyun advised.

Lin Yan stuck out his tongue, put down his bowl, and finished the last bit of rice.

At night, the family sat in the yard, drinking chrysanthemum wine, eating Double Ninth Festival cakes, and chatting about family matters.

Lin Yan plans to serve the new dish lotus root and pork soup tomorrow, as well as the mixed noodles from the shop. When the weather gets cooler, he will change to soup noodles. The specific type of soup noodles to be served is still under discussion.

"The sauerkraut and shredded pork noodles are good, and the tomato and egg noodles are delicious too. The soup base is rich in tomato, and it tastes sour and sweet in one mouthful." Yu Ge'er was so greedy just talking about it.

Lin Yan nodded and took note. "Anything else?"

Zhao Shiyun pondered for a moment, "Lotus root and pork soup with some noodles, does that count as a noodle soup?"

"That's right, this way we can make one less dish of noodles." Lin Yan tapped his palm, wondering why he hadn't thought of it. He really wanted to kiss Zhao Shiyun.

"Yangchun noodles are not bad. They are suitable for people who don't have much money but want to eat a bowl of hot noodles." Li Yuemei thought of when she was a child and went to the market with her mom. At that time, they didn't have much money and the weather was too cold. Fortunately, there was an old man selling Yangchun noodles. He could get a big bowl for three cents. She and her mom ate it all up. After the hot noodles went into their stomachs, they no longer felt cold.

"I remember eating a bowl of mutton noodle soup many years ago. The taste is still unforgettable. However, there are not many places selling mutton in this town, so I guess it won't work," said Zhao Qiming.

Zhao Shiyun suddenly remembered Brother Hu who used to sell mutton, and he didn't know when he would come back to sell mutton.

Lin Yan summarized: "Lotus root and pork noodles, Yangchun noodles, tomato and egg noodles, sauerkraut and shredded pork noodles, and mutton offal soup noodles all look good, but some ingredients are hard to buy. You have to go to the market to check." He was talking about the ingredients for mutton offal soup noodles. He had never seen anyone selling mutton on North Street.

"Then I'll go with you to take a look tomorrow." Zhao Shiyun's face turned a little red, probably because he was drunk. Lin Yan took his wine glass and stopped him from drinking, so Zhao Shiyun had to give up.
