Chapter 139 Roast Duck

Yu Ge'er got the good news and had a smiling face the whole day. On his way home from class, he was seen by villagers, who teased him, asking if he had picked up some money, as he looked so happy.

Yu Ge'er said a few perfunctory words, and when he saw that he was almost at the door of his house, he hurriedly took a few steps and rushed into the yard. Li Yuemei saw him and hurriedly reminded him, "Be careful, you are so reckless."

Yu Ge'er chuckled and planned to tell everyone the good news during dinner.

Not long after, Lin Yan and his friends came back. The new dishes received a very good response today. Lin Yan was so happy that he specially bought a roast duck.

"Wow, why did you buy such a big roast duck?" Li Yuemei asked curiously, but she didn't tell them directly that they were wasting money. She was not the kind of elder who would spoil the fun.

"Mom, today's lotus root and pork soup is very popular, so I bought a roast duck to celebrate." Lin Yan was in a very good mood.

"That's time to celebrate. I'll go pick some mustard greens and make some soup with the tofu later. Otherwise, I'll choke on just the roast duck."

There is a delicatessen in this town, which sells not only roast duck, but also roast chicken, braised pig ears, braised duck feet and wings, and sausages. Lin Yan plans to try other varieties next time. When he went to buy them today, the aroma of the delicatessen rushed into his head. Lin Yan thought they all looked delicious, bright red and greasy.

Since there was no need to cook today, Lin Yan took a break and put the roast duck in the kitchen, instructing Zhao Shiyun to chop it into small pieces later. He then nibbled on a peach while sitting in the courtyard watching Yu Ge'er embroider a handkerchief.

Yu Ge'er was a talkative person. He looked around and saw that no one else was at home. He leaned close to Lin Yan and whispered, "Brother, I have good news for you."

Lin Yan nodded to show that he was listening.

"My master told me today that she plans to open an embroidery shop and wants to teach me how to manage it and let me be the manager."

Lin Yan was so happy that he forgot to chew his peach. He grinned and grabbed Yu Ge'er's shoulders and shook him hard: "Really? Really?"

Yu Ge'er was dazzled by the shaking and could only nod randomly, "Really, really, please stop shaking."

Lin Yancai realized that he had been reckless. He quickly withdrew his hand and said with a smile, "I'm happy. I suddenly heard such good news."

"I feel like I'm in a dream today, so confused and I still can't believe it."

"This is a good thing. You should study hard and strive to be competent in the management job as soon as possible." Lin Yan encouraged Yu Ge'er.

"Um!"

Zhao Shiyun returned from watering the vegetable patch and went to the kitchen to chop the roast duck into small pieces. Lin Yan saw that he had finished, scooped out some rice, washed it, and began to steam the rice. He added an extra steamer tray and put the roast duck on it to warm it up when the rice was ready.

The roast duck has a crispy skin and a rosy color. The delicatessen also pairs it with spring rolls, chopped green onions, cucumber strips, and a small bamboo tube of sauce.

Lin Yan poured the sauce into a small dish and arranged the rest of the ingredients on a plate. He would steam the spring rolls with the roast duck later so that they would taste softer.

Yu Ge'er's needle was moving very quickly, and Lin Yan was stunned. "Yu Ge'er, you embroider so fast."

"It will become faster once you get used to it. It's the same principle as cooking." Yu Ge'er cut the thread, looked at the finished handkerchief carefully, and nodded with satisfaction.

The smell of rice wafted from the kitchen. Lin Yan put the roast duck and spring rolls into the steamer, and they would be ready in half a minute.

Now you can start to make the soup. Wash the mustard greens and cut the tofu into small pieces. Add water to the pot and bring it to a boil. Add the mustard greens and tofu and cook for a while. Add oil, salt and soy sauce to season. When the mustard greens are cooked, you can serve.

Lin Yan brought the dishes to the main room. Yu Ge'er couldn't wait to put away his needlework, washed his hands and sat down obediently.

"Dad, Mom, Brother Shiyun, it's time to eat." Lin Yan first served the rice to everyone, then picked up a spring roll, spread some sauce on it with a small spoon, and then picked up a piece of roast duck, some chopped green onions and two cucumber strips, wrapped it up, and handed it to Zhao Qiming first, "Dad, you eat first."

Zhao Qiming took it with a smile and took a large bite. Zhao Shiyun saw that Lin Yan was about to make the next one and quickly took over. "Let me do it. You just wait and eat."

Lin Yan didn't refuse. Zhao Shiyun made one and gave it to Li Yuemei, and the next one was naturally for Lin Yan. Lin Yan took a mouthful, savoring the flavor of the roast duck carefully.

The duck was quite large, and the family devoured it for a long time, with quite a bit still left. Lin Yan burped and said, "I'll use the remaining roast duck to make noodles tomorrow for breakfast."

"Okay, I'll hang it in the well, otherwise it will smell bad." Li Yuemei got up to get the basket.

Yu Ge'er remembered that he hadn't told the others the good news yet, and hurriedly stopped Li Yuemei, "Ah, don't be anxious, I have good news to tell you."

Li Yuemei sat down again. "What's the good news?"

Yu Ge'er repeated what he had just said to Lin Yan. Except for Lin Yan, everyone else was surprised and happy. Li Yuemei kept muttering, "Ancestors bless us. Our Zhao family is getting better and better."

Zhao Qiming looked at Yu Ge'er with satisfaction, and everything was said without words.

Zhao Shiyun touched Yu Ge'er's head and said, "Well done. I'll give you a gift someday."

"What is it?" Yu Ge'er asked curiously.

Zhao Shiyun kept it a secret, "You'll know when the time comes."
