Chapter 93 Buying Gifts

In the evening, when Lin Yan was cooking dinner, fifty bamboo tubes were delivered from Uncle Zhao's family. Uncle Zhao and his son Zhao He each carried a backpack full of bamboo tubes.

"Aunt Zhao, I've made fifty of them first. I was afraid you might need them urgently, so I sent them over first." The two of them stood awkwardly at the gate of the yard.

Li Yuemei quickly wiped her hands and greeted the person. "Come in, come in. Sit down first. I'll pour a glass of water."

"No, no, we'll just unload our things and go back. My family is waiting for us to cook."

"Okay, just put it here."

Uncle Zhao and Zhao He unloaded the bamboo tubes, promised to deliver the remaining fifty tomorrow, and then left.

Lin Yan looked at the finished bamboo tube. The edges were smooth and the size was about the same. He nodded in satisfaction. Not sure if Uncle Zhao had cleaned it before, Lin Yan rinsed it lightly with clean water, fearing that it might have burrs or something.

The chilies in the vegetable garden are ripe, and Lin Yan plans to pick them and have his mom make chili sauce to sell in the store. Lately, the chili sauce has been used less, and the fragrant tofu sales haven't been high, so Lin Yan is considering discontinuing the business. However, this fragrant tofu is his first profitable business, so he's a little reluctant to part with it.

"Let's look around." Lin Yan thought to himself, even if he only sold one board a day, that would be good.

After dinner, the family decided to go to the vegetable patch before it got dark to pick chili peppers. Zhao Shiyun, Li Yuemei, and Zhao Qiming each carried a backpack, while Lin Yan and Yu Ge'er carried a basket. The family arrived at the east end of the village. Hunter Zhao's door was open, and he was eating in the yard. After greeting him, the family began picking chili peppers.

The afterglow of the setting sun shone on the emerald green leaves and the bright red chili peppers, creating a beautiful pastoral painting. Lin Yan pointed at the chili peppers hanging from the branches and said, "The chili peppers are growing really well this year." Yu Ge'er excitedly rushed into the vegetable patch. Lin Yan smiled and warned, "Be careful, don't fall."

It had just rained during the day, a light drizzle, but the vegetable patch was a bit muddy, so it was better to be careful. The family scattered around, picking plump peppers, their faces full of satisfaction.

Everyone worked together and soon picked a lot. Seeing that the basket in his hand was almost half full, Lin Yan said loudly, "That's enough, no need to pick too much." The others stopped. Zhao Shiyun and Zhao Qiming picked a small half of the backpack, Li Yuemei picked faster and picked half of the backpack, and Lin Yan and Yu Ge'er picked most of the basket.

"Let's pick these first and send them to my mom tomorrow so she can make some first." I also have to buy ceramic jars to store the hot sauce tomorrow. Actually, it's not impossible to use bamboo tubes, but the hot sauce in bamboo tubes can't be kept for as long as in ceramic jars.

Zhao Shiyun and Lin Yan had been going to the shop together recently, and he was worried, thinking that having a man in the shop would be better. He had previously tried to avoid suspicion, but the shop was open to the public, and he had done nothing wrong, so what was there to be afraid of?

Li Yuemei could also take care of the household chores at home. After all, there were two pigs and a few chickens at home, and she had to check on the fields from time to time. In her free time, she would make bean curd sheets, mend clothes, mend shoes, and so on.

Zhao Qiming and Zhao Shiyun work a lot, so their clothes and shoes are worn out quite a lot. They have to mend their clothes every once in a while, and they also take the time to make a few more pairs of shoes, making them thick with scraps of cloth so that they are durable.

Lin Yan was busy with the shop and occasionally launched new products, so Li Yuemei didn't let him help with the chores at home. Except for dinner, which Lin Yan rushed to make, Li Yuemei did everything else perfectly.

"Brother Shiyun, Dad and Mom have been working hard at home. Let's go buy them something tomorrow." That night, Lin Yan whispered to Zhao Shiyun.

"Okay, what do you want to buy?" Anyway, the money is in Lin Yan's hands, he can spend it however he wants.

"If dad wants to buy a jar of wine, mom can buy a hairpin or a bracelet, and if Yu Ge'er wants to..." Lin Yan made money, and everyone in the family contributed. Although they would get dividends every month, they were always unwilling to take more. Mom would always return half of it, saying that Lin Yan often bought this and that, and it was all his own money, and Zhonggong didn't spend anything, so he couldn't always pay for it himself.

Yu Ge'er is now learning embroidery, so I am even less willing to accept commissions. I only help out occasionally, so how can it be worth collecting dividends?

Lin Yan had no choice but to compensate them in other places. He felt that since they were all family, there was no need to distinguish so clearly who bought something for the family or who did more work.

Zhao Shiyun reached out and tucked Lin Yan's hair behind his ear, pinching his earlobe. "Let's go shopping tomorrow and buy something if we see something suitable."

"Yeah." Lin Yan nodded slightly, and suddenly felt very happy.

The next day, after all the food in the shop was sold out, Lin Yan and Widow Liu said goodbye to them and asked them to clean up while he and Zhao Shiyun went to buy some things.

The two of them first walked to the jewelry store, which was located not far away on East Street. This wasn't Zhao Shiyun's first time there; he had bought a bracelet for Lin Yan before. The shop was overflowing with exquisite jewelry, dazzling Lin Yan's eyes. They wandered from one end to the other, looking at several ordinary silver bracelets, but none of them satisfied them.

"Sir, what style do you want?" After seeing a customer out, the waiter saw that Lin Yan and the others were still taking a long time to make a decision, so he asked.

"I want to buy a bracelet or hairpin as a gift for my mother-in-law." Lin Yan replied while looking around.

Seeing that they had just looked at several silver bracelets and were not satisfied with any of them, the waiter went to get a few hairpins for them to choose from.

The two were immediately attracted by a silver hairpin in the shape of a butterfly. The hairpin was engraved with delicate patterns, and its wings seemed to be trembling gently.

"This hairpin is really beautiful." Lin Yan said softly. Zhao Shiyun picked it up and looked at it carefully. Compared with other hairpins, this one is indeed better. "How much is it?"
