Chapter 152 Rescue

"Two little boys! Congratulations!" the midwife's voice was filled with joy, but when she turned to look at the first born, her smile froze instantly. The baby in the swaddle was breathing more and more slowly, his face was bruised, and his crying gradually subsided. His little fist was still clutching a strand of his father's hair.

Li Yuemei saw it too. She suddenly remembered that she had told Zhao Shiyun to call a doctor when she came in. She quickly made the bed, covered Lin Yan's lower body, and hurriedly opened the door. She saw three people in the yard staring eagerly at the door. She didn't care about anything else and hurriedly pulled the old doctor in, saying, "Doctor, please take a look at this child..." Her eyes were filled with tears, and she could no longer speak.

As the old doctor stepped through the threshold, the stench of blood filled the room. Lin Yan, now forcing himself to sit up, tears streaming down his face. The baby in his arms had a pale grey complexion, its arms hanging limply. Zhao Shiyun followed behind, looking at the mess in the room and the mouse-sized baby in Lin Yan's arms. He was stunned for a moment.

Another baby was held in Yu Ge'er's arms, crying softly. Li Yuemei hurried to the backyard to squeeze goat milk for the baby. When she reached the door, she pushed her dazed son hard. Zhao Shiyun came to his senses, his eyes were red, and he hurried to the bedside, sat next to Lin Yan, held his shoulders with trembling hands, and watched the old doctor treat him together.

The old doctor placed his index finger under the baby's nose and could only feel a faint breath. He then opened the swaddling clothes and found that the baby's skin was as thin as wet paper, and the rise and fall of the chest was so weak that it was almost invisible.

"Bring me a lamp." He pulled a silver needle from the medicine box and heated it over the oil lamp. The flames deepened the wrinkles around his eyes, and the white hair at his temples trembled slightly. The midwife's hands trembled as she handed him the lamp. "Doctor, is there anything you can do? This child weighed only a pound when he was born..."

Lin Yan's tear-soaked eyes had made it difficult for him to see the person before him. He silently watched the doctor's every move. He saw the doctor insert needles into several acupuncture points on the baby. After a while, there was no movement. Then he crushed a pill, mixed it with warm water, pried open the baby's mouth, and slowly poured the medicine in. As the medicine was poured in, the baby suddenly choked and coughed violently. His little hands waved erratically, then dropped back down.

"Let the child lie on his stomach." The old doctor lifted the baby, placed his palm against the back, which was smaller than his palm, and patted it gently. Time seemed to freeze. After a long moment, there was still no movement. The old doctor shook his head gently and sighed.

Lin Yan leaned against Zhao Shiyun, as if he had been sentenced to death. He cried out silently a few times, but Zhao Shiyun held him tightly. Zhao Shiyun's eyes were red, and he only hated himself for being powerless.
