Chapter 175 Rats Never Complain About Having Too Much Food

As soon as Yang Daya left, the whole family burst into laughter.

Cheng Yang said, "Little sister is really something. If I weren't a man, I would have beaten her to a pulp!"

Not only is he a man, but he's also a junior, and he lives in the same village. If things get out of hand, even the village head will have to come and talk to him, making it difficult for him to do anything.

Mr. Cheng glanced at him, "Of course your little sister is more capable, you..."

"What do you mean, 'you'? What's wrong with my son? If it weren't for you, Yang Daya wouldn't be able to act so arrogantly. It's all your fault!"

Mr. Cheng was interrupted by Mrs. Wu before he could finish speaking. Everyone knew that Yang Daya had harbored feelings for this old man when she was young, but it was only because her in-laws objected that things didn't work out.

"Oh dear, there are so many people here! Show some respect," Mr. Cheng pleaded cautiously.

This was all Yang Daya's wishful thinking, how can you deliberately blame him? Not to mention her parents' opposition, he never even liked Yang Daya!

Wu glared at her and had no choice but to let go, planning to teach him a lesson later that night!

Everyone knew how the old couple got along and chuckled to themselves. Lai Xing and Lai Wang were dumbfounded. Was the lady's mother really that fierce?

"Greetings, venerable patriarch, venerable madam, uncle, aunt, and young master!"

They didn't pay their respects yesterday because we were far away, and now that there's been this commotion, we should make up for it quickly.

Cheng's father and Wu's wife had never been called that before. Although they knew that these were servants that Cheng Yue had bought, they just couldn't get used to it.

He said awkwardly, "We are all farmers, why call us 'Master' and 'Madam'? Just call us like Xiao Lin does."

Lai Xing and Lai Wang were terrified. How could they possibly call for help like their young master? That would be an overstepping of their bounds!

Cheng Yue smiled and said, "Father and Mother, don't scare them. It's just a form of address. Just respond to whatever they call you."

Lai Xing and Lai Wang are very sensible and follow all the rules, so we have no choice but to go along with them. When people get along, they do whatever makes them comfortable.

Besides, as her family business grows larger and larger, there will be more than just two servants, Lai Xing and Lai Wang. It's impossible for everyone to call their parents "Grandma and Grandpa."

Cheng's father, Wu, and Cheng Yangliu looked at each other, smiled, and nodded.

Cheng Yue asked in surprise, "By the way, why don't I see Xiao Jun? Is the academy not on holiday?"

Liu smiled and said, "Except for busy farming seasons and the Lunar New Year, he doesn't get time off for minor holidays. Even if he does get time off, he won't come home for a day or two because he's busy studying!"

"No wonder. It's alright if he doesn't come back. As long as he studies hard, that's fine. I'll go to the academy to see him another day and bring him some good food."

Cheng Yue thought to herself, since we're both in the same county and live close by, I've been so busy with business lately that I've really forgotten about Cheng Jun.

Cheng Yang scratched the back of his head and chuckled, "Then I'll have to trouble you, little sister!"

They had the time, but they were worried that if they didn't dress well, they would embarrass their child. Although Cheng Jun didn't think that way, they, as parents, always considered things more.

"No trouble at all. Xiao Jun is my own nephew. Alright, let's stop talking and get the stuff off the ground first!"

After Cheng Yue finished speaking, she lifted the cloth on the oxcart, which was full of rice, flour, vegetables, zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), and pastries.

Liu's lips twitched, her heart aching. "Little sister, why are you taking so much stuff again? We haven't even finished the rice and noodles from last time!"

How long has this grain been provided? A family of five or six still hasn't finished it. It's obvious they can't bear to eat refined rice and flour; they're used to eating coarse grains.

Cheng Yue said helplessly, "From now on, I will bring food every time I come. If you don't want to eat it, just give it to the rats! Rats never complain about having too much food."

Mrs. Wu laughed and scolded, "You silly girl! We just can't do anything with you. We didn't say we wouldn't eat it."

In the past, they always felt bad about accepting things from their daughter, but now they've completely figured it out. If their daughter can afford to give them things, it means they're doing well and have their own.

It's not just the parents who love their children; the children also love and respect them.

Chen An smiled and hurriedly went to move the rice and flour, but Wu stopped him and directed Cheng Yang, "You go!"

Cheng Yang curled his lip, "It's just like a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law, the more she looks, the happier she is! The son-in-law is fragrant, and I, the son, am just stinky."

But even though he said that, he knew that his mother loved her brother-in-law so much just so that he would treat his younger sister better.

Liu slapped him, "Why are you so talkative!"

Everyone laughed again. Cheng Yue said, "Never mind them, let them move it together!"

There are also zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) and pastries here. It's a festival today, so we can eat them. Mom, sister-in-law, you should also take these dishes to the kitchen; we'll cook them for dinner tonight.

Wu and Liu stepped forward, their eyes full of surprise. "What are these dishes? We've never seen them before!"

They were wondering why Cheng Yue had brought over a basket of vegetables when there were plenty in the garden. It turned out they were all exotic vegetables.

Cheng Yue introduced them one by one, and then said, "I also brought the vegetable seeds. You can plant some in your yard to change things up."

"That's wonderful!" This dish looks rare, and Wu added, "It's perfect to send some to your second and third uncles as well."

Cheng Yue thought of her second and third uncles, whom she hadn't seen in a long time, and said, "Let's invite them over for dinner tonight!"

Her father was the eldest son, with only two younger brothers. The brothers had a very close relationship, and her second and third uncles were also very kind to her and her eldest brother when they were young.

However, her second aunt was a bit stingy, and her third aunt was a gossip. Her second and third uncles were sensible and afraid of affecting family harmony, so since they separated from the family, they didn't have much contact with her father, only exchanging greetings when necessary.

Mr. Cheng was naturally delighted. "Good, good, I'll go and call them over tonight!"

The three brothers have never eaten together except during the Chinese New Year. They are all blood relatives, and they can't stop seeing each other just because of their two wives.

Mrs. Wu was somewhat displeased, but she didn't say anything. She only said to Mr. Cheng, "My daughter is just worried about you!"

Well, everyone has flaws. Fortunately, my two younger siblings are not bad people. Being a little stingy and gossipy is not a big deal.

Mr. Cheng puffed out his chest, "Of course, my daughter feels sorry for her father!"

Wu ignored him, took the rice dumplings and pastries from his hands, and said with a smile, "These are delicious. We finished the ones you gave us last time that very night."

My daughter said this stuff spoils easily if left out, and they weren't comfortable hanging it in the well. They were afraid of wasting it, so they finished it off in one night.

Aside from making me a little bloated, the taste was absolutely amazing.

After the family finished moving their belongings, the men chatted and laughed in the yard, while Chen Lin and the other children played with pebbles. Wu Shi, Cheng Yue, and Liu Shi went into the kitchen to work.

Soon, the kitchen was filled with the aroma of meat, all of which were elaborate and hearty dishes. Cheng Yue was mainly in charge of cooking, while Wu and Liu assisted her.

Mr. Cheng glanced at it, got up happily and went out the door. A little while later, Mr. Cheng's second uncle and third uncle's families came over.

As soon as Aunt Cheng reached the gate, she craned her neck and sniffed, "Mom, brother, what delicious food did you make? It smells amazing!"
