Chapter 145 Heading to Zhangjia Village

Early in the morning, Tian Sangui drove his donkey cart to Zhangjia Village.

The oxcart was given to Tian Laosi to drive, and he and Zhang Shi divided the work of recruiting people to go up the mountain to start work.

The village headman strongly supported this initiative and helped Tian Laosi write down the names of the villagers who were going to work, so that they could settle their wages after work in the evening.

Villagers had done this before and had experience in all aspects, so they could get twice the results with half the effort.

Half of the villagers who couldn't participate last year, upon hearing the news this year, immediately gathered their young children and hurriedly went up the mountain to find the village head.

They were afraid that, like last year, they wouldn't get a share.

Last year it was a small hill, so there weren't many people needed. This year is different; two big mountains are connected, and the whole village came to work, and they still felt they didn't have enough people.

But others didn't think so. After all, they couldn't be sure what Tian Sangui was thinking. What if she suddenly decided that she didn't need so many people? That would be a huge loss.

So it's best to give your name before she speaks.

Last year, because of the unreasonable and domineering behavior of the Tian family, I not only lost my last job, but also made a big joke of myself.

This year, the Tian family came up to work again. Although there were fewer of them than before, they didn't say anything. They just did what everyone else did: after the village head wrote down their names, they turned around and went into the mountains.

After observing for a year, the old man had come to terms with it. Everyone was able to eat meat and drink wine, wasn't it all because the Tian family had produced a good granddaughter?

Because of Yun's stubbornness, the Tian family is still living a life of hardship, eating coarse food and wild vegetables. The villagers may not say it, but the old man knows in his heart that they are all laughing at him.

As long as they work hard, how could we mistreat them because of our parent-child relationship?

There's no definite answer from Lao Wu for the time being, we can't just stop living because of him, can we?

The old man, who was eager to get things done, disregarded Yun's expression and brought his eldest son and grandsons to sign up for work.

Since the patriarch of the family had already set off, how could the Yun family not do the same?

Although he disliked Zhang, he couldn't bring himself to offend his own son, and he still had to live in Tianjia Village.

When Tian Laosi saw his parents coming, he hurriedly stepped forward to stop them: "Father, Mother, why are you here too? This work is too tiring for you two, you should go back!"

"What? Your parents aren't the kind of people who live a life of luxury. Don't underestimate your parents. You go and do your work. We'll find a place to rest when we're tired. Don't complain that your mother isn't efficient enough!"

Yun was sharp-tongued, but she always spoke the truth. When she was young, she was a master farmer and had endured all kinds of hardships.

Since Madam Yun had said all that, Old Man Tian stopped trying to stop them and let them do as they pleased.

"What are you saying, Mother? Alright, if you're tired, find a place to rest. Don't overwork yourselves!"

After saying that, Tian Laosi turned around and got back to work.

The elderly couple moved nimbly, unlike before when they came to enjoy their retirement.

This time, she was really going to work. Wang looked reluctant, but seeing how seriously Yun was working, her desire to slack off was dispelled, and she quickly got into work mode.

Everyone in the village had witnessed the transformation of the Tian family. Originally, they were just waiting to see what would happen, but now they had given up on that idea. Unwilling to admit that the Tian family was efficient, they sped up their work and secretly started competing with them.

Half a day passed in the blink of an eye, and Tian Sangui gradually approached his aunt's house.

"Knock knock knock!"

Is my aunt home?

"Is it San Gui?" Madam Wu asked from under the eaves.

Tian Sangui immediately said, "Hey, it's me, Auntie, open the door!"

"Oh my, my darling, you're here!" After receiving confirmation, Wu hurriedly put down the dried peanuts she was shelling and got up to open the door.

Upon inspection, it was indeed the fair-skinned and handsome Tian Sangui.

"Oh dear, my darling, why did you come alone? Didn't your mother come with you?"

He had Tian Sangui lead the donkey cart into the yard, and as he closed the gate, he asked Zhang Shi why she was willing to come alone.

"My mother has something to do today, so I came to see my aunt by myself to take care of something!"

"You silly child, just tell me what's wrong. Anything your aunt can do, I'll do it for you right away!"

Thinking that Tian Sangui was still there to collect chicks, they were already starting to plan which family to start with.

She led Tian Sangui to the main room and sat him down. Wu took out a large bowl and poured water for her.

Tian Sangui started talking about the topic.

"Aunt, I'd like to plant something different on our land. Would you agree?"

Upon hearing this, Wu's eyes immediately lit up.

"I've heard that you've really brought Tianjia Village to its former glory. Many families from our village have come to ask me about you several times, but my dear niece hasn't given me, her aunt, a single word!"

"Really?" Tian Sangui was overjoyed. She had been feeling uneasy when she came, worried that Zhangjia Village wouldn't accept the new variety, and planned to start with her aunt first.

"Would your aunt lie to you?"

“Tianjia Village isn’t far from us, not to mention the Zhang family daughter who married there. Everyone’s been asking about her going back to her parents’ home!”

As Wu spoke with a smile, she also hoped that Tian Sangui would come over and lead them to grow some good things.

Today, the day I've been waiting for has finally arrived; this girl is truly thoughtful.

"That's great! Auntie, please help me count how many families want to grow the new variety so I can distribute the seeds."

"That's easy. Just go to the village head's house with your aunt, and he'll tell you!"

Wu took off her apron, locked the door, and led Tian Sangui to Zhang Lizheng's house.

Upon seeing the adobe houses, Tian Sangui realized that not all village heads could live in brick and tile houses.

"Brother Village Head, are you home?" Wu greeted him familiarly.

A question came from inside the house, "Is this Qiangzi's family?"

"Sister-in-law, it's me. My son Sangui has come to discuss something with the village head. Please open the door!"

Wu had a loud voice, and several neighbors living near the village head's house could clearly hear that Tian Sangui had arrived.

Just as the village head's wife opened the door, several families rushed from their homes to the village head's gate, peering over the door to hear what Tian Sangui had come to say.

Everyone hoped that this God of Wealth would allow them to grow rare vegetables and live a good life like those in Tianjia Village.

"Oh dear, please come in, San Gui! There's nowhere to even step in your aunt's house, please bear with me!"

Seeing that Tian Sangui was handsome and wealthy, Liu was afraid that her land would dirty her feet, so she said that.

Wu held Liu's hand and chatted politely: "Sister Liu, what are you saying? My Sangui is also a child from the countryside, so of course he won't look down on me."

"San Gui, come in and sit down!"

Tian Sangui followed Wu Shi into the courtyard.

Inside, two or three hens were circling a large rooster, scratching for food on the ground. Although the yard had been cleaned up, the original chicken droppings were still visible.

Fortunately, Tian Sangui had raised chickens before, although not like the Liu family, at least the taste was acceptable.

"San Gui, drink water!"

"Thank you, Auntie!"

"This child is so polite!"

Liu smiled and praised Tian Sangui for being polite.

Before Tian Sangui could even take a sip of water, an elderly man in his sixties, dressed in patched gray clothes, walked out from the backyard.

Wu hurriedly got up, and Tian Sangui and the village headman greeted them.

"Brother Village Head, this is my niece, San Gui!"

"Quickly greet Uncle Village Head!"

Ms. Wu reminded Tian Sangui to bow and greet the kind-looking old man.

"Uncle Village Head, San Gui, I apologize for disturbing you!"
