Chapter 120 Stir-fried Pork Buns with Chili (Part 2)

Sister-in-law Xiuhua shook her head, recalling the scene of her and her grandson working in the fields before, which was truly pitiful.

"I see. Then perhaps I can help them."

Wei Yuyan thought that she couldn't help with other things, but she needed this mushroom.

I can harvest all the mushrooms from her garden so they can go mushroom picking after every rain, earning as many as they can.

"The little girl is sensible, so I can rest assured that Qianqian can play with her."

Sister-in-law Xiuhua was thinking.

"It's a little spicy."

Qianqian can't handle spicy food at all; she could only eat half of it before she couldn't eat anymore.

We switched to bamboo shoot and pork buns. The bamboo shoot and pork buns had a little bit of chili added, which the kids could tolerate.

Xiao Lei quietly took the leftovers from his younger sister.

"Xiao Lei, if you also think it's too spicy, then give it to the dog. Give it bamboo shoot and meat buns."

Wei Yuyan reminded them that since they now have dogs at home, feeding them wouldn't be a waste.

"It's alright, sister-in-law, I feel fine."

Xiao Lei didn't think it was very spicy, probably because he's used to eating chili peppers every day.

Wei Yuyan ate two steamed buns and a bowl of porridge and was full.

"So, everyone, what's your opinion? Which one tastes better?"

Seeing that everyone had finished eating, Wei Yuyan began to ask for their opinions.

"I think the stir-fried pork with chili is delicious."

I think so too.

"Stir-fried pork with chili peppers in a steamed bun".

"Stir-fried bamboo shoots with pork buns".

Only Qianqian voted for bamboo shoot and pork buns; the other three all preferred chili and pork buns.

Wei Yuyan actually prefers stir-fried pork with chili peppers.

"Okay, the stir-fried pork with chili peppers buns win. We'll launch this new product starting from the next market day."

Sister-in-law Xiuhua, Brother Zhang, how much do you think is appropriate to pack?

Wei Yuyan thought that she hadn't gone to sell steamed buns yet, and that Xiuhua and her husband were more aware of the situation.

"I think when we sell them for the first time, we should pack sixty of them."

"I think we should reduce the number of mushroom buns, otherwise I'm afraid some of our regular customers will buy the chili and pork buns instead of the mushroom buns."

Brother Zhang spoke.

"I think we don't need to reduce the number of mushroom buns when we sell them for the first time."

Sister-in-law Xiuhua thinks mushroom buns are quite popular.

"Yes, what you all say makes sense. Let's decide on this then. Tomorrow, we'll buy ten pounds of meat: two pounds of fatty meat and eight pounds of lean meat."

Wei Yuyan thought that stir-fried pork with chili would taste better with lean meat. After saying that, she went into the house to get money and handed 92 coins to Brother Zhang.

"Isn't that too much?"

Brother Zhang counted them.

"Not much. I haven't given you this pound of lean meat yet, so include it in the total."

Wei Yuyan explained as she began to clear the dishes.

"Oh, right, right, right."

Brother Zhang, please keep the money safe.

"Sister-in-law, we're going back now. We'll come back tomorrow."

Xiuhua's sister-in-law picked up the little white dog and was about to leave.

"Hey, Sister-in-law Xiuhua, I suddenly have an idea to name your dog. I don't know if you'll like it."

Wei Yuyan looked at the little white puppy and suddenly had an idea.

"What's your name?"

Xiuhua's sister-in-law stopped and waited.

"How do you like the steamed bun?"

Wei Yuyan felt it looked like a big steamed bun.

"Wow, steamed bun, that suits it perfectly! Sister-in-law, you're so talented! Steamed bun, steamed bun, you have a name now."

Sister-in-law Xiuhua called out "steamed buns all the way back" as she walked home.

Xiaoya's home~

"Grandma, I'm back. Look what this is."

Xiaoya covered the bowl the whole way, afraid that others would see the meat buns inside.

When I got home, I showed my grandma the steamed buns in the bowl.

"This is a white steamed bun? Where did you get it?"

Grandma Xiaoya was very worried. Could this child have done something bad?

"Didn't I tell you I've been hanging out with Wu Qian lately? Today she invited me to her house to see her puppy."

I accidentally missed the time; their family was about to eat, so I quickly got up and left.

But Sister-in-law Wu stopped me and asked me to taste the buns to see if they were good.

Grandma, did I do something wrong?

Xiaoya noticed that her grandmother's expression wasn't very good, and wondered if she shouldn't have accepted Wu Dasao's steamed buns.

"No, dear child, Aunt Wu means well, you eat."

Grandma Xiaoya breathed a sigh of relief after hearing what had happened; it turned out that Wu Chen's wife had given her the steamed buns.

Thinking back, it seems I had no connection with her at all. I never expected her to be so generous to her granddaughter.

"Grandma, one for each of us."

Xiaoya had been craving one for a while, so she picked one up and gave it to her grandma.

"Grandma doesn't want to eat. She'll eat cornbread later. You can eat it."

Grandma Xiaoya saw that it was made of white flour and couldn't bear to eat it herself, wanting to save it for her granddaughter.

"Grandma, if you don't eat, then I won't eat either."

Xiaoya pouted.

"Alright then, we'll each take one. Grandma will wash the dishes this afternoon, and you'll have to take them to Sister-in-law Wu."

Grandma Xiaoya took the steamed bun.

"Wow, Grandma's bun has meat and chili peppers inside. This is the first time I've ever eaten a bun with chili peppers."

Xiaoya ate in small bites, reluctant to finish it all at once.

"Hmm, she must have made them herself. I heard they sell steamed buns in town."

Grandma Xiaoya remembered the rumors circulating in the village that she and Zhang's second son were selling steamed buns in town. It seems it's true; the buns taste really good.

The next afternoon, the three of them started preparing materials again.

"Sister-in-law, what will we do when the chili peppers are all gone?"

Sister-in-law Xiuhua washed some chili peppers and asked, "What will happen to the chili pepper seedlings when they need to rest?"

"We'll plant chili peppers while we sell them. Basically, once this batch is harvested, the new ones will start growing. When winter comes and there are no more chili peppers left, we won't sell them anymore."

Wei Yuyan thought she would sell it for as long as she could.

"Oh well".

Sister-in-law Xiuhua nodded; that was the only way.

The group worked until dark, and the next morning, Wei Yuyan took the children with her to see if the chili-fried pork buns could be sold.

"Auntie, uncle, come, come, try our new steamed buns, stir-fried pork with chili peppers."

Wei Yuyan took two or three packets of stir-fried pork with chili peppers, tore them open, and distributed them to some of her regular customers.

"This tastes good, my son might like it. The price is the same, I'll have two of each, mushroom and chili."

"I'll have two too."

Those who tried it before said it was delicious, and those who hadn't yet had a chance to try it just dared to buy one to give as a trial.

The steamed buns were sold about 15 minutes later than usual today.

"Brother Zhang is right. With the addition of chili-fried pork buns, the mushroom buns are selling a little less."

Next time we go to the market, we should reduce the number of mushroom buns.

After closing up shop, Wei Yuyan summarized the reason why it was so late to sell out today: the market was full.

"Hmm, how much should I reduce?"

Sister-in-law Xiuhua nodded.
