Night~
A man in black riding a horse arrived in front of the Wu family's house.
He frowned as he looked at the collapsed wall and the locked gatehouse.
The envelope I held close to my chest for almost half a month was all for today, but this is what happened.
"Wouldn't Wu Chen be so worried he'd vomit blood if he found out?" The man in black thought for a moment, then knocked on a villager's door.
"Who is it? Knocking on the door in the middle of the night, who are you looking for?"
The middle-aged man opened the door and was somewhat intimidated by the man in black. He wanted to curse, but in the end, he swallowed his words.
"I'd like to ask, where did Wu Chen's family go?"
The man in black tried to speak as gently as possible, afraid of frightening the person in question.
"I don't know, isn't she at home?"
The uncle and Wei Yuyan were not familiar with each other, and since the house had only collapsed two days ago, many villagers did not know that they had moved into a rented house.
"His house collapsed, but where is he? Don't you know?"
The man in black was speechless; he must have come to the wrong person, as the man knew nothing about the matter.
"Oh... hiss, I think I heard the house collapsed, but I don't know where they went."
The uncle remembered that there seemed to be such a thing; he had overheard his wife mentioning it.
"Are they alright?"
The man in black had no choice but to settle for second best; he didn't care where the person was, as long as he knew they were safe.
At least he managed to get some information back to Wu Chen, otherwise Wu Chen would have definitely killed him.
"The person is alright."
The uncle knew about this; if there had been any casualties, the news would have spread throughout the village long ago.
Thank you.
With a wave of his hand, the man in black disappeared in the blink of an eye, leaving only the sound of horses' hooves.
"Who is it, knocking on the door in the middle of the night?"
The uncle's wife was also woken up, and only asked what happened when her husband returned to the room.
“I don’t know. He asked Wu Chen where his family was, and I said I didn’t know. He then asked if anyone was alright after the house collapsed, and I said no one was, and then he left.”
After finishing his story, the uncle went back to sleep.
"They're probably Wu Chen's wife's family, otherwise who would ask?"
The man's wife was thinking.
"Endure, snort, endure, snort."
As the man snored, the couple drifted off to sleep, forgetting all about the incident.
The day before the Mid-Autumn Festival
"Sister-in-law, should we go over to prepare after lunch tomorrow for the Mid-Autumn Festival, or should we go in the morning?"
Xiuhua's sister-in-law took the initiative to come to Wei Yuyan to discuss how to sell a lot of meat pies tomorrow.
"Let's go tomorrow morning. We'll go to town to make lunch, and after lunch we'll start preparing."
Li Cai and his wife come back to rest at noon, and then they'll come back in the evening to sell meat pies with us.
Wei Yuyan thought that if she ate at home before going, the sun would be too strong, so it would be better to go to town in advance and cook there.
"Okay, I understand. Are Xiaolei and Qianqian going too? Tomorrow should be a day off."
Sister-in-law Xiuhua nodded to indicate that she understood, and then chatted with Wei Yuyan for a while.
"Yes, they should get two or three days off."
The children hadn't come back from school yet, so Wei Yuyan wasn't sure if it was two days or three days.
The next morning~
Wei Yuyan made vegetable buns for the kids. She suddenly thought of this dish last night, so she made some this morning. The taste was just as delicious as she had imagined.
"Xiao Lei, Qian Qian, I'll take you to town to play later. There are lanterns and fireworks displays in town today. Your sister-in-law will buy you some delicious food."
Wei Yuyan thought that she had never really let the children play properly every time she brought them over.
Every time, it's just a hurried rush to buy things or make and sell steamed buns.
"Wow, that's great."
Qianqian always exaggerates when she talks about it.
Xiao Lei only smiled, revealing a few teeth, which was rather reserved.
After finishing breakfast, Wei Yuyan tidied up the house.
The children and I each took a set of clothes with us, and we probably won't be coming back tonight.
I also brought five eggs from home; we'll fry them for lunch today.
On the first day we moved in, Sister Xiuhua and Sister Zhang each brought ten eggs, and these are the only five left.
"Sister-in-law, are you ready? Since you don't have anything else to do, let's go early, or the sun will be blazing."
Just as I finished tidying up, Sister-in-law Xiuhua came over.
"We're here, we're ready, let's go."
Wei Yuyan took the two children and rode in an oxcart towards the town.
When they arrived in town, Li Cai and his wife were packing their things, preparing to go home.
"We didn't expect you to be here so early. Now that you're here, we'll head back first."
Sister-in-law Zhang tidied up the steamer and other items.
"Go on, go home and rest for a while. Come back in the evening to help sell them. We estimate we'll sell a hundred or two hundred tonight."
We have to go to the market again tomorrow morning. You'll have to work hard these next few days. I'll give you extra pay this month.
Oh, and you can bring Xiaoxuan and Xiaoru along too, so they can see how bustling this place is tonight.
Wei Yuyan thought that everyone was working hard, but it was a rare opportunity, and it would be a pity to miss it.
"Okay, let's go home and rest for a bit, and come back to help earlier this afternoon."
When Sister-in-law Zhang heard that she would get a raise, she was overjoyed and couldn't wait to come back after finishing her meal.
The two children went to bed after playing until they were tired, while the three adults busied themselves chopping meat and kneading dough. Tonight, they would only sell meat patties, not steamed buns.
"Four hundred, isn't that a bit too many?"
Sister-in-law Xiuhua was a little worried about what to do if the meat pies couldn't be sold.
"Not many, I even think it's not enough. It's just inconvenient to fry them when you're setting up a stall outside. Otherwise, we could prepare five hundred."
Wei Yuyan's idea was for the shop to fry and sell the food, and for Li Cai to take some of the fried food to the riverside to set up a stall.
After selling out, Aunt Zhang would deliver more to ensure the taste and also sell more.
After the four of them had done enough of that, they became the "leader of the children," taking the four kids out for walks, buying them delicious food and fun toys.
"OK".
Sister-in-law Xiuhua had no choice but to agree reluctantly, but she was still a little worried.
"If we had more manpower, we could sell at least six hundred."
Brother Lifu thinks the products can be sold, but he feels there aren't enough people.
"We should have about enough people. The main thing is that I want to take my child around. It's not easy to have a performance like this, so it would be a shame not to see it."
Wei Yuyan certainly wanted to help, but she was more interested in playing with the children.
The group worked for half the afternoon, and by late afternoon, the town was gradually filling up with people. Li Cai and his wife arrived with their child.
Wei Yuyan started frying meat patties. This is the busiest time of day because she also needs to prepare red bean paste for tomorrow.
I also need to prepare dough, chili peppers, and mushrooms for tomorrow night, so I'm incredibly busy.
The children all came to help, washing the chili peppers and mushrooms, though sometimes they might have been more of a hindrance than a help.
"Oh dear, I've been so busy I haven't eaten yet."
It was completely dark by then, and Wei Yuyan had almost finished her work when she realized that everyone was still hungry.
