Wei Yuyan asked Li Fu to help her brother sell steamed buns, but in reality, there wasn't much to help with.
When there's no market day, one person can manage the work.
First, I went to the market and bought three pounds of pig's trotters, two pounds of pork belly, and one pound of eggs.
Back in the shop, Wei Yuyan began preparing the dishes.
I asked Brother Lifu to help me knead the dough. Today's main dish is steamed buns, which are easy to carry.
Today I'm making four dishes: braised pork trotters, stir-fried pork belly with shiitake mushrooms, spicy fried eggs, and scallion and egg drop soup.
Just then, the steamed buns came out of the pot, and Brother Licai's steamed buns were sold out.
"Come on, let's eat all of this together. I've saved some food from home."
Wei Yuyan stir-fried all the meat and pig's trotters, divided them into four bowls, ate one bowl at the shop, and then each of the three households took one bowl home.
"This smells amazing!"
Li Fu hadn't eaten breakfast and was starving. He took a big bite of the pig's trotter; it was tender, falling off the bone, and bursting with salty flavor.
"I haven't eaten pig's trotters in a long time."
Wei Yuyan was in a good mood today, ate well, and ate two steamed buns and quite a few dishes.
"I'll go back with you later."
Li Cai originally said he wasn't going back because tomorrow was market day and he would be busy in the afternoon.
But thinking about it, it's nice to go home and see the kids and the elderly.
After the three of them finished eating, they quickly took their food and rushed back to catch their train.
They first dropped Wei Yuyan off at her doorstep. After Wei Yuyan got out of the car, they hurried home as the children were about to finish school.
Wei Yuyan opened the door, put the food on the table, and covered it. It was still warm; it wouldn't taste good if it got cold.
Then I heated up some of the leftover porridge from the morning, otherwise eating only steamed buns would be too dry.
Soup is easy to spill, so I didn't make much; I only brought back three bowls of vegetables.
"Sister-in-law, I'm back, hee hee."
Qianqian returned with a big smile, followed closely by Xiaolei.
"Come on, let's eat."
Wei Yuyan uncovered the food for them to eat and chatted with them.
"Qianqian, why haven't you called Jiaojiao home for dinner lately? And Xiaopang hasn't come either."
Wei Yuyan should pay attention to their social life.
"Little Fatty's mother doesn't allow him to eat at other people's houses all the time."
Xiao Lei explained.
"Jiaojiao's family brought her food because it's cold now."
Qianqian swallowed a mouthful of rice before responding.
"I see. If it gets cold in the future, how about I send some over to you too, sister-in-law?"
Wei Yuyan asked.
"No, Little Fatty said he walks home to eat even when it snows."
Xiao Lei shook his head, not wanting his sister-in-law to work so hard.
"Well, if it rains, you can deliver it, but if it doesn't rain, you don't need to."
Qianqian thought that it would be fun to walk on the road if it snowed, but her shoes would definitely get wet if it rained.
"Okay, sister-in-law understands."
The weather has been pretty good lately, with occasional light rain at night but very little rain during the day.
After dinner, the children lay down on their beds to rest. Wei Yuyan lay down on her bed and read for a while before falling asleep.
On the second day of the market, Wei Yuyan went to help out early in the morning.
I'm worried they'll have to explain things to customers and fry meat patties, and the meat pie sellers won't be able to handle it all.
Fortunately, with the signs, there were no problems; customers who came to buy steamed buns could generally see the signs.
Therefore, the time it took for the steamed buns and meat pies to sell out today was about the same as usual.
"Alright, after today's guidance, everyone should know that we've moved here."
Wei Yuyan breathed a sigh of relief; another major issue had been resolved.
Two days later, during the children's day off, Wei Yuyan entrusted the children to Sister-in-law Xiuhua's care and prepared to go up the mountain.
"Sister-in-law, how about I go with you? It's not safe for you to go alone."
Sister-in-law Xiuhua knew she was going to the deep mountains; she had accompanied her to pick white fungus before.
“You can come with me, that’s fine. I’ll leave the child with Brother Lifu, and you can have half of the money from the sale.”
Wei Yuyan thought that digging for good medicinal herbs all day should be enough to sell for several hundred coins.
"Why are you giving out money? Wait, I'll bring some dry food."
Xiuhua made vegetable dumplings in the morning; just take a few.
Wei Yuyan and Sister-in-law Xiuhua were much more familiar with the route this time, and their ascent was much faster than last time.
"Sister-in-law Xiuhua, I'll teach you to recognize a kind of herb in a bit. Just look for this one; it'll be quick and you won't dig up the wrong one."
Today, Wei Yuyan is only digging for the expensive ones, not the cheap ones.
"Oh, then you've learned all the skills you use to make a living."
Sister-in-law Xiuhua joked that she had learned how to make steamed buns and now she was learning how to dig up medicinal herbs.
“Sister-in-law Xiuhua, I have many other skills to make a living. Right now, I’m building a house, but I don’t have much capital. I plan to do other businesses later.”
Wei Yuyan hasn't decided yet whether to make food or something else next.
"Really? I'm really looking forward to it."
Xiuhua admired Wei Yuyan even more.
"Wow, dendrobium! Sister Xiuhua, look, this is called dendrobium. It's easy to identify, isn't it? You won't dig up the wrong one."
See, just dig gently like that.
Wei Yuyan was the first to spot the dendrobium; there were many rocks here, and indeed quite a few dendrobiums.
"Okay, I'll give it a try."
Sister-in-law Xiuhua nodded and began digging seriously.
When Wei Yuyan saw the dendrobium, she told her sister-in-law Xiuhua, while she dug up other medicinal herbs.
This way, it won't be a waste of manpower and time.
"Oh, Codonopsis pilosula."
Wei Yuyan was lucky; she found a Codonopsis pilosula in less than half an hour of digging for medicinal herbs.
"Is the Party like ginseng?"
Sister-in-law Xiuhua didn't understand; she just thought it looked like ginseng.
"It's not ginseng, it's not as valuable as ginseng, it's only slightly more expensive than the dendrobium you just dug up."
Sister-in-law Xiuhua remembered what it looked like, and we dug it up and took it home to stew with chicken soup in the winter to nourish our bodies.
Wei Yuyan slowly explained to Sister-in-law Xiuhua while digging for Codonopsis pilosula.
If there are some here, there must be others nearby, but Wei Yuyan searched around and still couldn't find any.
After lunch, neither of them rested. They got right back to work, with Sister-in-law Xiuhua being particularly energetic.
Just because Wei Yuyan said a basket of medicinal herbs was worth several hundred coins, Sister-in-law Xiuhua couldn't wait to come again tomorrow.
"Sister-in-law, is this it? Come and see."
Sister-in-law Xiuhua excitedly called Wei Yuyan over to see what treasure Sister-in-law Xiuhua had found.
"Is this Codonopsis pilosula?"
Sister-in-law Xiuhua pointed to the plant on the ground.
"This, this is not Codonopsis pilosula, it's ginseng."
Wei Yuyan squatted down to examine the leaves and fruit, and confirmed that it was indeed a ginseng.
"What? Ginseng? That must be very valuable!"
Sister-in-law Xiuhua was also very happy.
"We'll only know how valuable it is once I dig it up."
Wei Yuyan was very excited, as this was her first time digging for ginseng, and she moved very gently.
"It's not very big, smaller than I imagined."
