The menstrual pads we have at home are too old and not good anymore, so I need to buy a few this time.
Wei Yuyan went back to buy it.
After finishing breakfast at home, Zhang Hao went to the bookstore to clean.
The books and bookshelves at the bookstore are all set up; all that's left is to clean up before it can open for business.
On the street, Zhang Hao suddenly saw a familiar figure from behind. He couldn't help but follow her and saw that she had gone to the fabric shop.
Zhang Hao had no choice but to stand at the door and wait, wanting to say hello to her.
Wei Yuyan wrapped the menstrual belt and threw it into the basket on her back.
"My lady, do you remember me?"
As soon as she stepped outside, she ran into Zhang Hao. Wei Yuyan remembered him and was surprised to see him here.
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
Wei Yuyan looked at him with an icy expression.
"Let me introduce myself. My surname is Zhang and my given name is Hao. May I ask your name, madam?"
Zhang Hao asked shamelessly.
"Wu Wei Clan".
Wei Yuyan didn't want to tell him her name. She didn't know him and didn't know why he was coming up to her.
"Miss Wei, are you here to go to the market today? Have you bought everything? How about I take you home in a carriage?"
Zhang Hao didn't know what to say, but he wanted to talk to her.
"No need, Young Master Zhang, I can go back by myself."
Wei Yuyan nodded slightly, then turned and left, completely baffled.
Zhang Hao was left standing alone, bewildered in the wind. He didn't follow, thinking that this matter couldn't be rushed.
Besides, she is a married woman. Zhang Hao had an immoral thought: he hoped that Miss Wei's husband would never come back.
Zhang Hao had originally decided not to bother her and to forget about her, but when he saw her, he couldn't help but go up to her and start a conversation.
Wei Yuyan no longer dared to walk on the side paths, but instead spent a penny to take an oxcart home. She didn't want to work too hard today, as she still had to plant rice seedlings tomorrow.
On the oxcart, several villagers looked at Wei Yuyan's basket on her back.
Luckily, I bought offal; I couldn't smell the meat buns, only the offal.
"Wu Chen's family is too poor. They always eat this kind of food that even dogs wouldn't eat."
"That's right, I heard it's not the first time, they eat it often, and people in the village have seen it several times."
Two villagers were whispering amongst themselves. Wei Yuyan heard them, but she thought it was a good thing; the poorer her family was, the better.
Back home, the two children had finished peeling the bamboo shoots and were washing them.
"My sister-in-law is back."
Qianqian called out sweetly.
"Hey, Qianqian, Xiaolei, have you had breakfast yet?"
Wei Yuyan ate two meat buns this morning, so she still has eight left.
"Sister-in-law, we've eaten. We had the leftover rice from last night, so I made fried rice with eggs for my sister and me."
Wu Lei came out of the kitchen with a cleaver and a cutting board, preparing to cut the cleaned bamboo shoots and let them dry.
"Okay, no need to cook lunch. My sister-in-law bought meat buns, we'll have them for lunch."
Wei Yuyan took the food out of the basket, put the osmanthus cake and peanut brittle in the cupboard, and put the meat on the stove to be processed in the afternoon.
Pig intestines and liver, put them in a basin, and then you'll have to wash them for a long time.
After putting everything away, Wei Yuyan took the kitchen knife. Wu Lei was only ten years old, and it would be troublesome if he accidentally cut his hand.
After slicing the bamboo shoots, Wei Yuyan steamed eight buns, intending to devour them for lunch.
They can be eaten after steaming them slightly. Wei Yuyan put three in Wu Lei's bowl and two in Wu Qian's bowl.
"Xiao Lei, can you finish three?"
Wei Yuyan was worried that he couldn't eat that much, and that it wouldn't be good for him to overeat.
"I can finish it."
Wu Lei nodded; the steaming hot meat buns smelled delicious.
The three of them cleaned up the eight steamed buns and then went for their lunch break.
Wei Yuyan got up to do laundry after sleeping for a while. She had an important task to do this afternoon: processing meat.
I'm going to marinate the pig intestines and dry them in the sun. I'll stir-fry the pig liver tonight.
As for the pork belly, one pound is used to make steamed buns, one pound is used to make braised pork belly, and the remaining one pound of lean meat is not eaten for the time being. It is then salted and hung in the well.
Wei Yuyan spent the whole afternoon at home preparing the braised pork belly, which was fried and stir-fried, and also had potatoes added. It would be ready to steam tomorrow.
The mushroom and meat sauce buns are also ready. One pound of pork belly and mushrooms yielded thirty buns.
"Xiao Lei, deliver five steamed buns to Sister Xiuhua's house while they're still hot, so no one else sees them."
Wei Yuyan covered the bun tightly.
"good".
Wu Lei nodded, picked up the bowl, and slowly walked out.
Wei Yuyan picked up five steamed buns, then served rice and put it on the table. There would only be one dish for dinner: stir-fried pork liver with green peppers.
Wu Qian doesn't really like pork liver, so she was given meat buns instead. Wu Lei and Wei Yuyan, on the other hand, ate rice and buns together.
"Xiao Lei, Qian Qian, we're going to start transplanting rice seedlings tomorrow morning. Xiao Lei and I will go to the fields to work together."
Qianqian, stay home and take care of the chicks, don't open the door for anyone, understand?
Wei Yuyan knew that Wu Lei was still young and shouldn't be doing these tasks, but more people meant more strength, so she tried to do more herself and let him do less.
"I understand, sister-in-law. You can lock me in the house when you go out, I'm not going out anyway."
Qianqian remembered that her older brother used to do the same thing, worried that they would run around, so he would keep them locked up at home to feel at ease.
"That's fine too. You can stay home and feed the chicks in the morning, and then come play in the fields with us in the afternoon."
Wei Yuyan didn't know if she could finish inserting the needles in one day, so she had to get up early tomorrow.
After finishing her meal, Wei Yuyan washed up and went to bed. She was too lazy to take a shower; she'd do it tomorrow.
Before dawn, Wei Yuyan was already busy in the kitchen, steaming eight buns and taking out the food she was going to cook for lunch, covering the braised pork and placing it on the stove.
"Wake up, Xiao Lei~".
Wei didn't wake Qianqian; it wasn't even dawn yet.
"Okay, sister-in-law."
Wu Lei blinked and woke up, realizing that he had important things to do today, so he got up without saying a word.
"Wu Lei, there's braised pork and rice on the stove. Come back early for lunch."
Cook the rice, steam the braised pork, and stir-fry some vegetables. We'll be back for dinner when it's time.
Wei Yuyan had already planned this out; this arrangement would allow her to spend more time in the fields.
"I understand, sister-in-law. We need to bring water."
Wu Lei still remembers this incident.
"Yes, I boiled the kettle last night, so I can just take it over in a bit."
Wei Yuyan was a meticulous person by nature.
After the two had eaten and drunk their fill, as dawn was breaking, they went out, keeping two steamed buns warm in the pot, and locked the door from the outside.
Carrying a basket, I went to Sister Xiuhua's field, took off my shoes and socks, and started pulling up rice seedlings.
After about fifteen minutes of peeling, Wei Yuyan said that was enough, and that she wouldn't peel too much at once since they were close by anyway.
Wei Yuyan carried the seedlings to her paddy field and threw them in. By then, it was already broad daylight.
