Chapter 4 sets its sights on Lu Yanzhao

Lu Yanzhao's room was very clean, a trait he inherited from his mother.

A desk sits beside the bed, with two bookshelves above it. Brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones are neatly arranged on the right side of the desk, as are clothes and shoes.

Gu Nanjiao felt a sharp pain in her stomach and, not caring about anything else, hastily pulled a book from the corner of the bookshelf. It looked old and worn. She flipped through it and found that half of it had writing on it and the other half was blank, like a draft paper from junior high school. It must have been Lu Yanzhao's old paper.

Gu Nanjiao tore off a few sheets at random and hurriedly ran to the outhouse.

When Lu Yanzhao returned, night was gradually falling, and a few stars dotted the sky in the east. It seemed that tomorrow would be a sunny day.

As soon as I arrived at the entrance, I saw Lu Xiaomei waiting by the big tree.

"Big brother, big brother!" Lu Xiaomei waved loudly at Lu Yanzhao, her joy barely concealed.

Lu Yanzhao straightened his back, trying his best to look normal. His back wound hurt a lot, his head was spinning, he had been running a fever all day, and his face was flushed slightly.

He has always been strong. From childhood to adulthood, no matter how much pain he was in, he had to endure it. He was the only pillar of the Lu family. If he collapsed, what would happen to his mother and sister?

"Brother, come quickly," Lu Xiaomei pulled Lu Yanzhao into the kitchen, her eagerness barely concealed in her eyes.

As soon as he entered the kitchen, he smelled an enticing aroma of meat. Lu Yanzhao couldn't help but swallow.

"What are you standing there for? Come in and sit down." Gu Nanjiao heated up the leftover braised chicken from lunch, served it, and placed it on the table.

"Brother, this is a stewed chicken that your sister-in-law made especially for you." Lu Xiaomei pulled out a chair for Lu Yanzhao very attentively, and didn't forget to say nice things about Gu Nanjiao who was standing next to her.

Lu Yanzhao glanced at Gu Nanjiao indifferently, his eyes still devoid of warmth. He believed everything Gu Nanjiao was doing now was a deliberate attempt to ingratiate herself. He figured it was just a passing fancy, and if he ignored her, she would slowly revert to her old ways.

The family was all assembled and began to eat. After Lu's mother picked up her chopsticks, Lu's younger sister couldn't wait to pick up a piece of chicken and ate it with great relish.

Lu Yanzhao prided himself on being a gentleman and refused to accept food offered by Gu Nanjiao. He didn't touch a single piece of the chicken in that bowl.

Later, when Lu Yanzhao recalled the stewed chicken, he deeply regretted not having tried a piece back then.

The bowl of chicken was quickly emptied; Lu's mother ate a few pieces, and the rest went to Lu Xiaomei and Gu Nanjiao. Not a single piece was left for Lu Yanzhao.

Eat it or not, it's up to you. If you don't eat it, someone else will.

After dinner, Lu Yanzhao went back to his room to study. Gu Nanjiao helped Lu's mother clean up the kitchen, while Lu Xiaomei also swept the area.

After washing up, Gu Nanjiao was about to lie down when she heard someone knocking on the door.

As soon as he opened the door, he was met with a pair of bloodthirsty and vicious eyes. Lu Yanzhao's eyes were slightly red, and his sinister gaze was filled with a hint of coldness.

Gu Nanjiao's heart skipped a beat.

He stretched out his long legs, walked in, and casually closed the door.

"You've entered my room." Lu Yanzhao's tone was icy, devoid of any warmth.

"Yes, I ran out of toilet paper when I went to the outhouse, so I grabbed a few sheets from your room." Gu Nanjiao felt guilty; entering someone else's room without permission was indeed immoral. However, she really couldn't resist at the time; she was still very unaccustomed to being here. In her haste, she thought that Lu Yanzhao's room must have some unused draft paper.

"You tore up my rare book?" He stared coldly at Gu Nanjiao, his eyes tinged with anger.

"What?" Before Gu Nanjiao could even utter the last two words, her neck was gripped tightly by a pair of large hands.

"You're asking for death!" Lu Yanzhao's vicious eyes seemed to devour everything.

Gu Nanjiao was being choked so hard she couldn't breathe or speak. Lu Yanzhao's fingers were cold, bone-chillingly cold. She tried desperately to pry them off, but no matter what she did, she couldn't. If this continued, she was definitely finished.

Having just come back to life, she certainly couldn't die. With a strong will to survive, Gu Nanjiao kicked Lu Yanzhao hard in the lower body.

Bend your leg, lift your foot, kick—all in one smooth motion.

On the verge of exploding in rage, Lu Yanzhao suddenly felt a sharp pain in his lower body. He clutched his chest and retreated to the wall. His fierce eyes glared at Gu Nanjiao, his tone like that of a predatory beast:

"Shameless! Vulgar!"

At that moment, he felt utterly weak, his legs trembling. Already injured and feverish for a day, he was now dizzy and sweating profusely. Unable to move, he slowly sat down against the corner of the wall and quickly lost consciousness.

With her neck relaxed, Gu Nanjiao was kneeling on the ground coughing violently, her face covered in snot and tears, looking completely disheveled. The injuries from the previous sling hadn't fully healed, and now that Lu Yanzhao had grabbed her, Gu Nanjiao felt that if she didn't use her ultimate move, her neck would definitely be snapped.

She wiped her face and looked at Lu Yanzhao, only to find him lying motionless in the corner, looking pitiful.

Fearing that Lu Yanzhao would pinch her again, Gu Nanjiao had no choice but to pick up a wooden stick used to prop up the windowsill, carefully approach Lu Yanzhao, and poke the guy on the ground with the stick.

"Hello--"

"Hello--"

Seeing that the person on the ground did not react, she reached out and touched their nose.

"It's gassy,"

Gu Nanjiao breathed a sigh of relief. Having been choked and struggling to breathe, her survival instincts kicked in, forcing her to use her ultimate move: kicking Lu Yanzhao. But Lu Yanzhao's body was far too weak.

I only saw him a few times, and he fainted every time.

Thinking of her previous injury, Gu Nanjiao touched Lu Yanzhao's forehead.

It's so hot!!!

It's at least forty degrees!

Come to think of it, he'd been running a fever since his injury last night. I only gave him a quick treatment. He was running back and forth between the academy and his home early the next morning, and tonight I'd kicked myself pretty hard.

Thinking of this, Gu Nanjiao couldn't help but feel guilty. She was in the wrong first, having torn up someone else's book, which was a rare copy.

For scholars, rare and valuable books are hard to come by. No wonder Lu Yanzhao was furious. Driven by a strong survival instinct, she kicked the man; it's unclear whether she injured him.

Born to serve others. Gu Nanjiao is here.

Gu Nanjiao tried her best but couldn't lift Lu Yanzhao onto the bed. He looked thin, but he was as heavy as a pig.

She pulled a straw mat from under her bed, spread it on the floor, and then draped a quilt over it. She then made Lu Yanzhao roll onto the mat.

The straw mats are thick, so they won't be cold when laid on the ground in winter.

She touched Lu Yanzhao's head; it was burning hot, and there was no fever reducer at home. Resigned, she could only apply a compress to his forehead to lower his temperature.

Physical cooling methods were not very effective for high fever, so Gu Nanjiao remembered that she had seen a massage method for reducing fever on Douyin (TikTok).

Massaging the inner Laogong acupoint and the Daqing Tianhe water point can quickly cool you down.

In the latter half of the night, her temperature finally dropped. Gu Nanjiao finally felt relieved. She hadn't slept all night, and managed to doze off for a while before dawn.

To prevent Lu Yanzhao from waking up and going crazy again by pinching himself, she found some belts and tied Lu Yanzhao's hands and feet together.

...

The first rays of morning sunlight shone through the cracks in the window onto Lu Yanzhao's face, and the person on the ground slowly opened their eyes.

Lu Yanzhao felt as if his whole body was falling apart, with a dull ache in his back and a certain area, and a sore throat.

"thirsty……

I really want to drink water…

Lu Yanzhao tried to sit up, but found that his hands and feet were tightly bound by two red belts.

The way the belt was tied was strange; the more Lu Yanzhao struggled to break free, the tighter it became.

A sense of humiliation arose spontaneously, and finally, the unbearable pain became unbearable:

Gu Nanjiao—
