Chapter 9 I can't reach it, help me apply the medicine

Peeling and cutting into pieces is indeed a big undertaking.

Lu Yanzhao cut for a while, then felt the wound on his back reopen, which was very painful. He wanted to stop and rest for a while, but he was afraid that Gu Nanjiao would laugh at his weak body.

He gritted his teeth and kept going.

When Gu Nanjiao came out of the house, she saw that Lu Yanzhao was struggling to hold the knife.

Oh dear! She had forgotten that Lu Yanzhao had been injured a few days ago.

He was injured, but he never stayed in bed to recuperate. He ran back and forth between school and home every day, acting as if nothing had happened, and he even forgot about it.

"Are you alright? If not, you should rest." Gu Nanjiao saw his condition and decided to show her concern.

Upon hearing this, Lu Yanzhao paused, turned his head, his eyes bloodshot and unusually frightening, and said to Gu Nanjiao, word by word, "You're saying I'm no good??"

Gu Nanjiao was frightened by his gaze. She couldn't understand what she had done to offend him again. She had only expressed concern, and he was already angry.

"I was just concerned about you, why are you so sensitive?" Gu Nanjiao was genuinely bewildered. Why was Lu Yanzhao so concerned about the words "yes" and "no"?

Suddenly, she remembered kicking Lu Yanzhao. Could she have actually hurt him? That's why she was unusually sensitive.

"You...you wouldn't...really be...unable to be kicked by me," Gu Nanjiao stammered.

Heavens, the only son of the Lu family, if she were really kicked and killed, she would be a sinner.

Upon hearing this, Lu Yanzhao could no longer conceal the raging storm in his eyes. He slowly walked up to her, grabbed Gu Nanjiao's waist, pulled her into his arms, and whispered in her ear, "You said I'm no good, do you want to try?"

"Lu Yanzhao, don't be impulsive. I didn't mean anything by what I said. I was just worried that your wound would reopen and I wanted you to rest, so I said it. Don't be so sensitive." Gu Nanjiao tried to comfort Lu Yanzhao.

“If I really kick you and cause any problems, we’ll see a doctor and take medicine as needed. I’ll cover all the expenses, so don’t be discouraged.” Gu Nanjiao was interrupted by Lu Yanzhao’s stern shout before she could finish speaking.

"Shut up--"

"What's wrong? What's wrong?" Hearing the noise, Lu's mother rushed out to see what was happening, only to find her son and daughter-in-law clinging tightly together. Startled, she quickly retreated back inside.

Upon seeing Lu's mother emerge, the two separated abruptly as if struck by lightning.

Lu Yanzhao stared intently at Gu Nanjiao, then turned and went back to his room, slamming the door shut behind him.

Seeing this, Gu Nanjiao was quite certain that Lu Yanzhao was in trouble.

Looking at the kudzu root that had been almost completely peeled, Gu Nanjiao squatted down and cleaned up the rest.

Gu Nanjiao felt very guilty. She felt she had let Lu's mother down. Lu's mother had been so good to her, and yet her son had been...

Thinking of this, she felt even more guilty. Although Lu Yanzhao was indeed a terrible person, his mother was a really good person. If they were truly childless, how could she possibly make amends?

The door creaked open.

Lu Yanzhao opened the door and called to Gu Nanjiao, "Come here for a moment."

Gu Nanjiao hesitated for a moment, but still went in.

This was Gu Nanjiao's second time entering Lu Yanzhao's room. A dim oil lamp was lit in the room, and Lu Yanzhao's unfinished copying of a book lay on the desk.

Lu Yanzhao took off his clothes, and Gu Nanjiao was so frightened that she quickly backed away.

"What...what are you doing?"

Lu Yanzhao waved the medicine bottle in his hand and chuckled softly, "I can't reach it, help me put the medicine on."

"That's it...??"

Lu Yanzhao gave her a meaningful look. "Otherwise, do you really want to try with me?"

Gu Nanjiao really wanted to say, "Try it, can you do it?" But she held back the words. It was better not to provoke him, otherwise his fragile heart would suffer another blow.

"Give it to me." Gu Nanjiao reached out and took the medicine bottle in her hand.

She walked over and looked at Lu Yanzhao's injuries. The wounds that had been scabbing over had now all reopened.

It's my own fault for not thinking of this and making an injured person do the work. What's even stranger is that Lu Yanzhao actually obeyed my orders.

Gu Nanjiao's fingers weren't very warm. When applying the medicine, her cool fingertips would inadvertently touch Lu Yanzhao's back, causing a ticklish, tingling sensation. Lu Yanzhao felt a warmth rising within him, a surge of blood slowly coursing through him.

"Are you in a lot of pain?" A pleasant female voice sounded in my ear.

Lu Yanzhao suddenly stood up, creating some distance between himself and Gu Nanjiao, and said with his back to her, "You don't need to go up anymore, you can leave."

Gu Nanjiao...

Gu Nanjiao was furious. What kind of person was he? Did he think she was his servant, someone who could be summoned and dismissed at will?

The next time she comes in, she'll be a puppy.

Gu Nanjiao tossed the medicine bottle onto his bed, frowned, and said with a dark face, "Do it yourself, don't come to me next time."

Hearing the door close, Lu Yanzhao slowly turned around, looked down at the newly erected tent, and was both surprised and delighted.

Ever since Gu Nanjiao kicked him, he noticed that every morning in the dappled sunlight, Xiao A Zhao could no longer get up. He was furious, ashamed, and angry, but he dared not say anything.

To everyone's surprise, Gu Nanjiao only applied some medicine to him, and he actually...

As long as it's not broken, it's fine.

Back in her room, Gu Nanjiao grew angrier the more she thought about it.

I'm such a busybody. People either ignore me or come when I call them and leave when I dismiss them.

Just like the original owner, he was eager to do it.

Forget it, I don't want to think about it anymore. Thinking too much about it is just a headache.

Lying in bed, Gu Nanjiao began to ponder how to make kudzu root powder. In her previous life, she had only seen a blogger making it while scrolling through videos on her phone. She was very interested at the time, so she bought some kudzu root online and tried to make it herself when she was bored. She never expected to actually succeed.

It's been too long; I need to recall the preparation method and effects in my mind to avoid wasting my time later.

The next day, Gu Nanjiao got up early and went to the kitchen. She first boiled a pot of water for everyone to wash up, and then started making noodles.

I'll be quite busy today and won't have time to cook anything special, so I'll just make some noodles.

When Lu's mother arrived, Gu Nanjiao had already rolled out the noodles. She put down the rolling pin, clapped her hands, and said to Lu's mother, "Mother, after you cook the noodles, I'll grind the kudzu root with a shuttle when I have time."

"You eat first, and after you eat, Mom will grind the grain with you."

After breakfast, Lu Xiaomei washed the dishes, and Lu Yanzhao hurriedly headed to the academy.

He got up a little late this morning.

Lu's mother and Gu Nanjiao began to grind the kudzu root into powder little by little with a shuttle. The two of them spent the whole morning grinding the kudzu root.

In the afternoon, well water was added for filtration. Gu Nanjiao first brought over two large vats and poured the filtered kudzu root water into them. By evening, the water had begun to settle.

After a long day, both Lu's mother and Gu Nanjiao could barely straighten their backs.

Dinner was prepared by Lu Xiaomei. Although Lu Xiaomei was only seven years old, she could do everything from washing clothes and cooking to feeding chickens. Children from poor families learn to be independent early.
