Chapter 102 Wanting to Divide the Family
Upon hearing this, Su Yindi immediately became displeased: "What do you mean by that? Does that mean her family is easy to talk to, but mine isn't?"
Seeing that she didn't know what was good for her, Jiang Mi wasn't going to let her off the hook: "Are you being ridiculous? When did I say anything to you? You're the one who's taking it personally..."
[A good woman should love and care for her family, not be so irritable. Three electric shocks will be administered.]
Jiang Zhi then saw his most beloved younger sister twitch a few times on the spot.
"Honey, what's wrong with you?"
Jiang Mi shook her head helplessly. She was too lazy to resist the system anymore. She couldn't fight it no matter what, so she might as well save her energy.
"I'm fine, second brother. Let's go eat first. We're finally home, so let's have some fun."
"Are you feeling guilty? Your Jiang family is bullying me, don't think I can't see through it!"
Jiang Mi was furious. She was never allowed to do any farm work and only allowed to do light chores at home. Yet, she still said such things. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, she even brought home more rabbit meat than her two sisters-in-law.
She could tolerate how her own family treated her, but no matter how they treated her here, she was never satisfied.
Jiang Mi left without even glancing at Su Yindi. Some people are good at persuasion, while others are impossible to persuade and will only hit a wall once.
Jiang Zhi sighed. His younger sister was so understanding, but Su Yindi was pressing him relentlessly. It seemed that things were not as simple as Su Yindi made them out to be.
Seeing that her husband remained silent, Su Yindi knew he was worried about his sister, so she suggested, "Ziru, you're not young anymore, and we've been married for a year. Why don't we separate and move out?"
Jiang Zhi looked at her incredulously: "What nonsense are you talking about? Our parents are still alive and well, and our eldest brother hasn't said anything. Why are we talking about dividing the family property?"
Su Yindi thought that as long as the family was divided, the money and land that Mother Jiang had now would be divided among the three families, which would be better than having to watch Mother Jiang and Jiang Mi's expressions every day.
"Isn't this just a matter of time? You and I will both have children and grandchildren in the future. Are we going to all be crammed into this small, dilapidated courtyard when there are more people?"
Jiang Zhi hesitated: "We can't separate the family now, can we? My second brother and I are both in school, and the family relies entirely on our parents and eldest brother to earn money. They supported our education before, and I don't have the ability to support the family now."
Hearing this, Su Yindi said happily, "You haven't been home for a long time, do you know what our family is like now? Let me tell you, your sister has now learned how to grow sweet potatoes and has leased a lot of land. A rich man leased it all. That's a lot of money. When we divide the family property, we'll get a third of it."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhi was not happy: "You said it yourself, it belongs to my sister. How can I, as her brother, take her things? And you're supposed to be her sister-in-law. Let's not talk about this now, we'll talk about it later."
Su Yindi, exasperated, smacked him: "You're such a blockhead!"
Just then, Jiang's mother called for dinner from outside. Jiang Zhi responded and pulled Su Yindi out of the house.
During dinner, Jiang Xuan brought Liang Lan back with her. Jiang's mother was all smiles when she saw that everyone was there.
The Jiang family ate at one table. Because they didn't have a large enough table, they used several small wooden tables put together. Even so, everyone was very happy to be able to gather together.
Jiang Mi looked at everyone happily. In her past life, her three older brothers had lost their lives for her. She never thought they could still eat and talk together. There was no happier moment than this.
"Father, Mother, brothers and sisters-in-law, I'd like to offer you a toast with tea instead of wine, hoping that our family will get better and better!"
This is Jiang Mi's biggest wish in life: for her family to be healthy and safe. If life could be even more fulfilling, that would be perfect.
Mother Jiang couldn't stop smiling: "Yes, seeing you all doing well is better than anything. Now the only thing missing is that Honey hasn't gotten married yet. We'll find her someone close to home so that if anyone bullies her, you brothers can help her out."
Jiang Zhi immediately replied, "Absolutely. I will not forgive anyone who dares to bully my sister."
Upon hearing this, Su Yindi glared at him and muttered under her breath, "I've never seen you treat me this well."
Jiang Zhi felt a little embarrassed; he didn't know what to say in front of so many people.
Jiang's mother always had to give her son face, so she pretended not to hear Su Yindi's words and asked Liang Lan, "Are your parents in good health?"
Liang Lan was coaxed by Jiang Xuan and now realized that she had been too impulsive. She said apologetically, "Everything is fine. My mother felt embarrassed to receive so many things, so she specially asked me to bring some steamed cornbread that she made for everyone to try."
Su Yindi curled her lip in disgust: "Trading a few chickens and ducks for such a small amount of cornbread, they're making a killing."
Liang Lan lowered her head in embarrassment. Jiang's mother, unable to bear it any longer, said, "What do you mean by that? Do you think we should also send some chickens and ducks to your family? Putting aside everything else, your second sister-in-law's family always visits and sends gifts during festivals. No matter how valuable they are, it's all out of their good intentions. What about your family? Not only do you get things for nothing every time, but you never stop asking for them. What do you think our Jiang family owes your Su family?"
Su Yindi looked at Jiang Xuan with a wronged expression, her eyes red. She was quite fair-skinned and didn't usually work in the fields, so her skin was smooth and moist. Jiang Zhi felt soft-hearted when he saw her.
"Alright, alright, don't talk nonsense, then your mother won't scold you. We're all family, there's no need to be so petty."
Su Yindi thought that with Jiang Zhi backing her up, she said, "Since we're family, it's not wrong for me to give my family some money, is it? My sister hit my brother last time, making me unable to hold my head up when I go back to my family home. My family is poor, and now that I'm doing better, it's not wrong for me to help my family, is it?"
Jiang Zhi heard that there was nothing wrong with what she said, but he couldn't bear to blame his sister, so he could only ask cautiously, "Really? Honey, is that true?"
Jiang Mi cursed, "You treat kindness like dirt. Is it us who made his brother poor? He doesn't do anything productive, he just eats, drinks, gambles, and whores all day. When he runs out of money, he asks his three older sisters for it. You can help him in an emergency, but you can't support him in a long-term relationship. Third Brother, you must understand this principle, right?"
Jiang Zhi knew Su Xing quite well, and immediately said, "Honey is right. If your brother comes to you again complaining about being poor, just let him work in our fields. Give him double the wages then. That won't be treating him unfairly, will it?"
Jiang Mi's eyes lit up: "That's right, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Everyone works hard. Besides, it's good for a grown man to suffer a little. You can ask your brother to help. As long as he works hard, I'll pay him three times the wages."
"Are you serious?" Su Yindi's eyes lit up. Would this stop her parents from being angry with her?
