Chapter 142 Mutual Success
"Really?" This was quite unexpected for Jiang Mi. She hadn't expected such a good response. She had thought that everyone would reject it. But then again, it made sense. Soaps at this price point would only interest wealthy people. Ordinary people wouldn't consider it, even if they really liked it.
"Have they all been sold?"
The shopkeeper smiled and said, "Yes, they're all sold out. The ones you gave me are also sold out. They all think they smell very good, and they came back the next day specifically to buy more. They said they're better than ordinary soapberries and they really like them."
Wealthy people naturally don't care too much about the price, and Jiang Mi is targeting this group of people. It's a pity that there are too few rich people in Shushan County. It would be even better if she could sell her products outside the county.
"Thank you so much, shopkeeper. Consider the money from these sales as a token of your appreciation for your hard work. You don't need to give it to me."
Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper was naturally unwilling to agree and quickly said, "That won't do. It was just a small favor for me. How could I possibly accept your money? In fact, my business has even improved because of your soap."
That's what they say, but Jiang Mi knew that the shopkeeper must have helped a lot, otherwise no one would have bought an item they'd never heard of before so easily.
"Your business is good because it's inherently good. You're able to sell your soaps thanks to the trust your customers have in you. How about this: from now on, I'll sell my soaps here, and you can take a percentage as a commission. I just want to build up the reputation of my soaps; I'm not looking to make money right away."
The shopkeeper looked puzzled: "If you're not trying to make money, why are you doing all this?" Are there still people who don't care about making money these days? Apart from some noble scholars, there shouldn't be such fools, or they just have too much money to care.
However, Jiang Mi doesn't belong to either category. To be precise, she not only wants to make money, but also hopes that what she does can make a name for herself. For example, when people mention Jiang's Restaurant, they will think of the Jiang family, and when they mention soap, they will think of Jiang Mi.
"I'm aiming for long-term development. When everyone knows about my soap, the money will come naturally. Some things don't need to be forced."
The shopkeeper stroked his beard and nodded, showing great appreciation for Jiang Mi: "I know you. Your Jiang Family Restaurant is quite famous now. You can sell it in your own restaurant. Why do you insist on selling it here?"
Jiang Mi said shyly, "To be honest, I've thought about this too, but restaurants are places for eating, and I don't want things to be too messy. If I sell here, the customers will all need soap, so they'll definitely consider my soap. Plus, with you here, it will naturally sell even better."
The shopkeeper nodded: "Alright, to avoid any financial disputes, we should write a guarantee, specifying how we will split the profits. By the way, Miss Jiang, how long do you plan to sell here?"
Jiang Mi had already thought of this: "If it sells well in Shushan County, I'll sell it all here. But I hope it can grow bigger. I want to open a shop in another place so I won't have to compete with you for business."
The shopkeeper knew she was doing this to support his business, and he was very touched, considering it a way of repaying her kindness.
"Thank you, we've helped each other achieve our goals."
The old man and the young girl smiled at each other. Jiang Mi already had a lot of money, which had attracted the envy and jealousy of many people. It would be better for her to keep a low profile. If she stood out too much, she might attract the attention of bad people.
With this in mind, Jiang Mi decided to hire some guards to prevent bad guys from causing trouble and to protect her family's safety.
However, it's best to have your own bodyguards; if you hire them, they might be bribed by someone else someday. It's not that she's suspicious, but having lived two lives, she now fears nothing more than the hearts of people, and she doesn't want to be betrayed by those around her again.
"Then it's settled. I'll send over another batch of soap later. I've been researching a lot of different scents lately, and maybe they'll sell even better."
The shopkeeper nodded. He greatly admired Jiang Mi; a girl with such a sharp mind was more outstanding than many men.
"Young lady, may I ask you how you make this soap? The soap makers are all amazed by it. It seems to be quite a process for them as well. Did you have someone else make it, or did you make it yourself?"
Jiang Mi readily admitted, "Yes, I made it myself, which is why it's only this small. But I'll probably hire some chefs to make this later."
Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper was shocked: "How can a young girl like you know how to do these things? Those master craftsmen have been trying for years and still can't do it. How can you be so skilled? Who did you learn from? Who is your master?"
Jiang Mi smiled mysteriously, deliberately not explaining clearly: "I can't tell you these things, old man. If I tell you everything, how am I supposed to make money? You have to leave me some secrets, right?"
The shopkeeper smiled knowingly and didn't ask any more questions. He was also in business and naturally knew the sensitivity of these issues.
Jiang Mi felt much more relaxed on her way back. One by one, things were being resolved, and everything was moving in a positive direction. Life felt more meaningful and hopeful.
When she returned to the restaurant, most of the guests had left, leaving only a few people still drinking. Remembering that her peach blossom wine was not yet ready, she hurried back to continue making it, not even bothering to eat dinner. It was her mother who called her out herself.
"What are you doing, staying cooped up in your room all day? You don't even know how to eat. Honey, what are you busy with all day?"
Just then, Jiang Mi came out with a pot of wine and said happily, "Mother, I think I've made it!"
"What's done? Come and eat. You've been busy all day. Your second and third brothers are here too. Now that we live nearby, they can come back and have a reunion dinner together."
Seeing her mother say this, Jiang Mi felt even more that her idea of buying the backyard was the right one. This way, they would have a place to rest when they were busy with the restaurant. Now, the whole family could live in the backyard, which would make it convenient to take care of the restaurant business and also allow the family to get together.
"That's perfect. Let my second and third brothers taste this wine for me too."
Jiang Mi ran ahead excitedly, while her mother was completely baffled: "What wine? What is this girl saying that I don't understand?"
When Jiang Mi arrived at the house, the whole family was chatting and laughing, creating a very warm atmosphere.
