Chapter 153 Riding in a Carriage
Jiang Cheng denied his thoughts: "What's wrong? I've lived all these years and I've never even tried riding in a carriage. You're allowed to ride, but I'm not?"
Jiang's mother said helplessly, "Alright, alright, how can I control you? You have legs, you can go wherever you want."
Jiang Yan and Liu He laughed along with them. The family was enjoying a harmonious time, and things were getting better and better for them.
The next morning, Jiang's mother pulled Jiang Mi out of her warm bed. Seeing how sleepy Jiang Mi was and could barely keep her eyes open, she said with heartache, "Look at you, you insist on coming with me. It's so cold, you should just stay home and sleep. When have you ever been this diligent before? In the dead of winter, you always slept until noon before you were willing to get up."
Jiang Mi also wanted to sleep until noon, but lazy people don't make money. If only there were a business where you could make money while lying down.
"It's alright, Mom. I don't sleep in. Lazy birds don't get to eat worms. I not only want to eat worms, I want to eat lots of worms."
As Jiang Mi spoke, she forced herself to wake up. Her room had a charcoal fire and a stove burning, so it wasn't cold, but it got cold as soon as she went outside.
Jiang's mother shook her head helplessly: "This child, I can't understand what he's saying anymore, he's really changed a lot."
The carriage was rented next door, and it was filled with soft bedding and a hot water bottle. As soon as Jiang Mi snuggled in, she fell asleep immediately.
Jiang's mother looked at her with affection, but couldn't help feeling sorry for her: "Honey has grown up so much all of a sudden. It must be because of that incident. If she hadn't been betrayed by Yang Liu, she would still be an innocent little girl. How could she have to work so hard to earn money?"
Jiang Cheng sighed: "That's true, but I think it's good that she's like this now. If she's always been silly, what will she do when we get old? It's good this way, at least she won't have to worry about food and clothing. Even after we're gone, we won't worry about her too much. Right now, we should find her a reliable husband. That way, I'll feel more at ease."
These words struck a chord with Jiang's mother. She hadn't discussed Huo Ran with Jiang Cheng yet, and seeing that Jiang Mi was asleep, she asked softly, "What do you think of Huo Ran?"
Jiang Cheng was startled: "You've taken a liking to him?"
He raised his voice, and Jiang's mother, afraid that he would wake Jiang Mi, quickly covered his mouth: "Keep your voice down, don't wake Mitang up, really, you're so jumpy!"
Jiang Cheng nodded, and seeing that Jiang Mi hadn't woken up, he continued, "Why did you think of him? He's not from our Shushan County, we don't know his background, and he seems to have quite a background. We're just an ordinary family, so let's just forget about it. Living a peaceful life is better than anything else."
Upon hearing this, Mother Jiang nodded: "That's what I think too. You and I are thinking the same thing. This young master Huo is actually quite good. He has good looks and a good figure, and he's so generous. He can casually throw out thousands of taels of silver notes. His family must be very wealthy. It's just that he has never mentioned his family background. It seems like he's deliberately hiding something, which makes people feel uneasy."
Jiang Cheng said, puzzled, "Then why are you bringing him up? I thought you had a crush on him."
Jiang's mother scoffed, "You're really blind! Didn't you realize that boy has feelings for our girl? It's so obvious, yet you act like nothing's wrong."
"Huh?" Jiang Cheng was taken aback. "When did this happen? I didn't notice. If you did notice, why didn't you tell me? He didn't do anything to our Honey, did he?"
"He wouldn't dare? I'll keep an eye on him. No one is allowed to bully our honey. Besides, he hasn't even made a gesture. What's going on? But to be fair, this Young Master Huo is a man of principle and manners. Putting aside everything else, he wouldn't do anything dirty or despicable. Even though I trust him, I can't be completely at ease. Fortunately, we only have one daughter."
Jiang Cheng was silent for a while, seemingly processing the news he had just heard: "Then why did you agree to let Honey go back with us today? We're bound to run into that Huo guy when we get home."
Jiang Cheng no longer calls him Young Master Huo, but directly refers to him as "the one surnamed Huo".
There's nothing really going on between them.
"Is it really necessary to make such a fuss over a meeting? Besides, I trust our Honey; she wouldn't do anything inappropriate. We're going to harvest potatoes right now, so don't wear your heart on your sleeve, understand?"
Jiang Cheng said sullenly, "I understand."
That's what he said, but he clearly had something on his mind. It seemed that he couldn't be relied on. Mother Jiang sighed and closed her eyes to rest.
Halfway there, the carriage was suddenly tripped by something, jolting Jiang Mi awake. With dazed eyes, she asked, "Father, Mother, are we home yet?"
Jiang's mother didn't know what was going on, so she asked Jiang's father to go down and check. Before they could go down, they heard a familiar voice coming from outside, a soft and weak voice.
"Oh dear, I have not meant to disturb you. I hope you will forgive me."
Jiang's mother frowned and said, "Why does this voice sound so familiar?"
Jiang Mi had already figured it out; it could only be Yang Liu. This woman was looking everywhere for rich and powerful people, wanting to attach herself to a high branch, but unfortunately, no one was interested in her arrogant appearance.
She quickly stopped her father, who was about to get out of the car, winked and whispered, "Father, don't get out. The person outside is Yang Liu. Let's tease him."
Upon hearing that it was Yang Liu, Jiang's mother didn't even give her a pleasant look. Jiang Cheng, following his daughter's instructions, didn't get out of the carriage. Instead, he cleared his throat and said, "It's alright, Miss, please go ahead."
Upon hearing this, Yang Liu realized that there was indeed a man inside. Judging from the luxurious carriage, it must be very valuable, and the man inside must be very rich as well. Even if Zhao Decai ignored her, she could find another man.
"Thank you. I was abrupt just now, which startled the horse and caused the carriage to lurch. Please accept my apology in person, sir."
The meeting was about to take place. Yang Liu thought she was so beautiful that any man who saw her would fall in love with her. However, she was indeed quite capable, and many men had been fooled by her. But it was not easy to deceive those who had a brain.
"No need, please step aside, I have urgent business," Jiang Cheng said in a low voice, following Jiang Mi's instructions.
Although the voice sounded quite old, Yang Liu didn't care at all, as long as it satisfied her vanity and basic needs.
