Chapter 231 Poppy

Chapter 231 Poppy

"That's right, even if someone is poisoned, they should be able to diagnose the problem, shouldn't they?"

These doctors were all unconvinced. They clearly concluded that this was the result of their pulse diagnosis, yet this person made a conclusion without even taking a pulse, as if they, as doctors, were completely useless.

The man was acting mysteriously, as if he had seen it all.

"Of course, now that we have both witnesses and physical evidence, what can your Jiang Family Restaurant say?"

Jiang Mi felt that this person had been deliberately arranged to come. She asked the doctors, "Doctors, is this what the symptoms of poppy poisoning are like? Although I don't know anything about medicine, I'm not so ignorant."

The doctors said in unison, "No, the symptoms of poppy consumption are completely different from this. People who consume poppies will experience dizziness, nausea, weakness, and in severe cases, hallucinations, dilated pupils, and a very strong pulse, which is completely different from this old man's symptoms."

Hearing the doctor's words, everyone around was shocked. It seemed that the old man might not necessarily be related to poppies.

Jiang Mi continued, "Besides, we don't have any poppies here at all. You went in and searched haphazardly. Who knows if you brought these poppies in yourself, yet you're trying to frame me. I know that some people are getting restless now that my Jiang Family Restaurant is here. I don't care who's instigating you, but nobody can stop me."

Some people in the crowd quieted down for a moment, and the doctor in the crowd said, "Poppy doesn't cause these symptoms, but who knows if your restaurant has anything else? We don't know. Your peach blossom wine recipe is kept so well hidden, who knows what you put in it? There must be poppy in it, otherwise why would we be so addicted to it!"

The surrounding people thought it made sense, but they didn't dare to really believe it and remained skeptical.

Jiang Mi was not afraid at all. She had already sent someone to invite the soldiers. In any case, none of the people who came to cause trouble today could escape.

"Want to know the secret recipe for my wine? No problem, even if I told you, you still wouldn't be able to make it."

Looking at the mess in the room, Jiang Mi said to everyone present, "Anyone who led the disturbance today will be reported to the authorities. Don't think that someone is backing you up; you'll just be scapegoats in the end."

The man in the lead was initially nervous, but then revealed a disdainful expression: "I didn't do anything wrong. It was clearly someone who died here. We were acting in self-defense. Who knows if we'll be next? Do you think a female businessman like you would value our lives?"

Jiang Mi was too lazy to waste her breath arguing with this person. These people had come prepared. As long as she revealed the facts and the truth came out, their rumors would naturally fall apart.

Zhang Min'en couldn't stand it any longer and angrily said, "Have you all forgotten that Miss Jiang saved your Linshui County before? She cured the plague, otherwise would the people of your Linshui County have recovered so quickly?"

Someone said, "Didn't the plague originate from your Shushan County? If it weren't for the people of Shushan County getting the plague, how could it have spread to our Linshui County? If you ask me, the people of Shushan County are a jinx!"

"That's right! You caused us to get the plague before, and now you want to poison us. Fellow villagers, the people of Shushan County are all evil people!"

Someone is starting to incite everyone to fight against Jiang Mi again. It seems they've been paid a lot this time, otherwise they wouldn't be working so hard.

Just then, the county magistrate arrived with his soldiers, and the men quieted down a bit. However, those who had their heads down still looked disdainful and seemed unafraid of the soldiers.

"What's going on?" the leading official shouted. "What are you all yelling about here? What exactly happened?"

Those people fell silent. The group that had caused the trouble exchanged glances, and one of them stepped forward and said, "Sir, sir, look, someone has died at the Jiang Family Restaurant! Someone has died from eating there!"

The official glanced down and saw the old man lying motionless on the ground. He touched him and found he was still breathing. He said, "He's still alive, isn't he? What nonsense are you talking about? Quickly take him to the doctor."

Jiang Mi pointed to the doctors standing beside her and said...

He said, "These are the people. After taking the pulse, they all agreed that the old man was fine, at least his pulse was normal, but they didn't know why."

The magistrate of Linshui County remained silent, listening attentively. The official glanced back at the magistrate and continued, "Are you really alright? Then why is this old man foaming at the mouth? And what is the reason he's lying here?"

The doctors looked at each other, at a loss for words. Faced with such a difficult problem, they really didn't know what to do.

At this moment, the man in the crowd who claimed to be a doctor said, "Is there any need to say anything? It must be due to poisoning. This Jiang Family Restaurant even has poppies, let alone other poisons. Who knows what else is hidden in here?"

"What? Poppies?" The soldiers turned to look at Jiang Mi, then at the county magistrate, unsure of what to do next.

"Where are the poppies?" the magistrate asked, his gaze towards Jiang Mi changing.

The troublemakers handed the poppies to the magistrate. Jiang Mi explained, "These poppies don't belong to our restaurant. I was just wondering if someone deliberately brought them in to frame me."

"Really? Is there any evidence?" It wasn't that the magistrate didn't believe Jiang Mi; he wasn't as familiar with her character as Zhao Decai. But everyone was watching, and nothing could be said with just words; everything required real evidence.

Jiang Mi had no evidence, and the man showed a smug expression. Jiang Mi couldn't stand it and asked, "This person says he found the poppies here, shouldn't he at least provide some evidence? Do you think this is all the poppies I have here? Where did you find them? I seem to remember that you just went to the backyard to look for my peach blossom wine recipe, and when you couldn't find it, you took out this thing!"

The man visibly panicked and said, "Nonsense! I found it at the place where you brewed your wine. You made everyone like drinking that peach blossom wine because of this stuff. Besides poppies, what else is addictive? This old man must have been in poor health to begin with, and he got sick after drinking your stuff!"

"Exactly, you must have put something in there, maybe it's not just poppies."

Jiang Mi remained calm and composed, saying, "Is that so? Since everyone is here, let's take a thorough look."
