Chapter 244 Moving into a New House
Jiang Xuan and Jiang Zhi were worried about Jiang Mi, so after finishing up the matters at the academy, they went to see her. They were surprised to find that she wasn't at the inn. They were quite surprised when they saw her and Liu Min returning from outside together.
"Liu Min? Aren't you with your master? What are you doing here?"
Jiang Mi explained to him, "He helped me find a house, and I've already booked one. My brothers will move in with me then."
Jiang Xuan and Jiang Zhi were both very surprised. In just one day, Jiang Mi had already settled on the house.
Jiang Zhi exclaimed in surprise, "Little sister, you're so quick! You just bought it like that? Is our family that rich?"
Jiang Mi dislikes the feeling of not having a home. Having a house of her own here makes her feel less lonely and helpless. At least she has a place to go, and it's still her own home.
"I'm a little scared living alone in that big house. My two older brothers can live with me."
Jiang Xuan and Jiang Zhi were naturally reluctant to leave their sister alone, so they readily agreed. However, it would take a few more days for her to settle in. Jiang Mi stayed at the inn for the past few days, and would go out for a stroll whenever she had free time. She would chat with people she met and quickly became familiar with the area.
She came downstairs that day. The seller's family was preparing to leave Beijing, and she was going to take possession of the house and have someone clean it up so she could buy some things to decorate it.
The family was loading things onto the carriage when they saw Jiang Mi arrive. They said very warmly, "There are some things we can't take with us, but we thought you might find them useful, so we left them here. If you don't want to use them, you can just throw them away later."
Jiang Mi thanked them and glanced at the carriage. She saw that it was indeed full, so they must have had no choice but to leave some things behind.
"Because we left in a hurry, we didn't tidy up the house properly. If you want to move in, you'll have to tidy it up beforehand. We're also in a hurry to go back to our hometown, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to sell this house for such a low price. It could definitely have sold for a higher price."
Jiang Mi knew this, of course. She had gotten a good deal. Someone else wanted to buy the house yesterday, but Jiang Mi had already reserved it, so the offer had to be dropped.
"It's alright, I'll tidy up the house again. If you have urgent business, just go ahead. Perhaps we'll meet again someday."
The carriage curtain was lifted, revealing the face of a gentle young man. He and Jiang Mi exchanged a glance, and the carriage set off, gradually disappearing into the distance.
“Miss Jiang, the master said he will come to see you in a while. You can leave the house to us as you wish to be done.”
Jiang Mi had gotten used to Liu Min's elusive nature.
"Clean up the mess inside, and it would be best to make three rooms so that my two older brothers and I can stay there first. We can take our time to clean up the rest."
Liu Min responded. He was a rough man and had no idea how to tidy up these things, so he spent money to buy a few maids to do the work. Jiang Mi saw that they were quite efficient, so she decided to keep them to tidy up the house. It would be too much work for Jiang's mother and her sisters-in-law to tidy up such a big house.
Jiang Mi lived in the back house, while the main house was reserved for Jiang Cheng and his mother. The west wing on the left was for her second brother and sister-in-law, and the east wing on the right was for her third brother and sister-in-law. When her eldest brother and sister-in-law arrived, they would have to live in the side rooms. This is why Jiang Mi wanted to move to a bigger house; it was indeed a bit small, but it was much better than their house in Hongyang Village.
"If we feel it's too small after the whole family moves in, we'll buy a large house with five courtyards and a garden. That way, it will be spacious."
Liu Min smiled and agreed, "A larger one is naturally better, as it will be more spacious for everyone. However, a smaller one also has its advantages. If everyone lives closer together, they can see each other more often, which will naturally deepen their relationship."
That's true. Jiang Mi wasn't extravagant; she was used to hardship, so the size of the house wasn't too important to her. She went to check on her room, which was probably a woman's residence. It was quite clean and tidy, and she could move in after a little cleaning. She had already prepared clean bedding and clothes in advance.
"Miss, let me help you tidy up the room."
Let's sort it out?
Jiang Mi turned her head and saw the maid Liu Min had bought. The girl was fairly decent-looking, but she looked a bit thin. Perhaps her family was poor, otherwise she wouldn't have been sold into being a maid at such a young age.
"Okay, wipe all the dust inside. Throw away any old things. Just tell me if you need anything, and I'll buy some new ones later. Now that we've moved into a new house, we should naturally furnish it with some new items."
"Yes." The maid left after saying that. She was quite efficient at her work, and it was obvious that she had been working since she was a child.
There was another maid waiting for instructions, so Jiang Mi ordered her, "Go and tidy up too, and while you're at it, air out the new bedding I bought. The weather's quite nice."
The sun was shining brightly, and many flowers were blooming profusely in the courtyard. She went to the front yard and saw Liu Min tidying up the yard with several servants. Just as she was about to ask him when he bought it, Huo Ran walked in.
"Are you free today?" Jiang Mi hadn't seen Huo Ran for several days. She only knew that he had something important to do last time, and he was gone for several days. Fortunately, she wasn't the kind of woman who relied on a man for a living, otherwise she would have been anxious waiting for him these past few days.
"Yes, I naturally want to congratulate you on your housewarming today. This house isn't too big, but it's not small either, so I brought a few more people with me. If you like these people, you can keep them; if not, just buy new ones later."
Jiang Mi naturally trusted Huo Ran's people, so she accepted them all without hesitation.
"I'll pay you back whatever you spent."
Huo Ran raised an eyebrow: "Hmm? Do we have to be so calculating between us? If I were to ask you for this little bit of money, wouldn't that be a bit stingy?"
Jiang Mi smiled and didn't continue to argue with him. Since he had said so, she gladly accepted it.
"You guys split up and go clean the back. Today, focus on cleaning the west and east wing rooms first, and also clean the back room. You can continue cleaning the rest tomorrow."
Those servants weren't very old, but they were very obedient.
Jiang Mi went to check out the two side rooms, and they were both quite nice. She also had some children's items prepared so that Su Yindi could bring her child to stay with her when she came to visit.
