Chapter 306 Acceptance

Chapter 306 Acceptance

Jiang Mi, realizing that her parents disapproved of Huo Ran's relationship precisely because of his family background, said, "You think it's so simple. If it's really as you say, then why did you object before? Our social statuses are too different. My parents are worried that I'll suffer if I'm with you. Besides, you're too mysterious; we don't know anything about you." Huo Ran, not expecting this reason, quickly explained, "My background only sounds impressive; it's not really. I have no real power. My father isn't in the capital. There are only my half-sister and half-brother, and a few other relatives in the household, but our relationships aren't very good, so we don't visit each other much. Doesn't that make your family members seem quite simple?"

Jiang Mi sighed: "How could we really not keep in touch? We're all in the capital, we'll see each other all the time, there's no way we can get rid of each other. If you don't need someone, you can keep them."

"Them? They're just a bunch of useless trash. You don't need to say anything more. I won't let you suffer any injustice at their hands in the future. Jiang Mi, you are the most important person to me in this life, more important than everyone else, including my father."

Hearing that he only mentioned his father, Jiang Mi asked, "What about your mother? How is her health?"

Huo Ran lowered his eyes sadly and said, "She's gone now, many years ago. I don't even remember what she looked like anymore. She was very beautiful, but none of that matters anymore. I don't like to bring up the past. In short, don't pay attention to what others say. If you feel uncomfortable, just tell me, and I'll help you get revenge."

Jiang Mi nodded gratefully, then realized something was amiss and said, "These are all things for the future; you're speaking too soon."

After saying that, she quickly walked a few steps to Jiang's mother's side and handed the Kongming lantern to her: "Mother, I bought it. You can give it to your two sisters-in-law."

Jiang's mother was impartial and gave each person an identical one, so Su Yindi said nothing more.

"Come on, ladies, let's go release some sky lanterns."

"Great!" Su Yindi had never touched one before, and she immediately became interested. She pulled Liang Lan and Jiang Mi toward the place where Kongming lanterns were released.

"Will my wish come true if I write it down?" Liang Lan felt a little sad. She didn't know if this place was really effective, but seeing everyone releasing sky lanterns with great enthusiasm, she followed suit.

"Yes, I heard it's somewhat useful. Second sister-in-law, what did you write? Aren't you illiterate? Why are you writing and drawing?"

Liang Lan said shyly, "Yes, I just wrote it down casually. If I don't know how to write, I just draw it. As long as the meaning is roughly right, that's fine."

Su Yindi said, "Alright, I'll write it like that too, and I hope our wishes will come true."

After releasing the Kongming lantern, she threw a copper coin into the pool, which is how people make wishes.

Huo Ran watched as Jiang Mi earnestly wrote down her wish. He peeked over, wanting to see what was written, but Jiang Mi blocked his view with her hand.

"How can you cheat like this? How can you look at other people's wishes? They won't come true if you do."

Huo Ran had no choice but to give up. He had only wanted to tease Jiang Mi, not actually want to see it.

On the other side, Su Yindi suddenly leaned close to Liang Lan's ear and whispered, "Second sister-in-law, are you praying for a child?"

Liang Lan's face flushed red. She was indeed praying for a child, but it wouldn't sound good if word got out, as if she really had something wrong with herself.

Jiang Mi comforted her, "Second sister-in-law, don't worry. Even if we don't have it, our family won't look down on you. As long as our family is reunited and harmonious, that's better than anything else."

Liang Lan blushed and nodded. In all the years she had been married to Jiang Xuan, none of the Jiang family members had ever pressured them to have children, nor had they ever made them do heavy work. Even though they hadn't had children for so many years, they were still the same as before. This alone had deeply moved Liang Lan, which was why she was willing to work wholeheartedly in the Jiang family. Unfortunately, she no longer even had any work to do. She was now treated as a so-called young mistress and wasn't even allowed to go into the kitchen.

The group then went to watch others release sky lanterns, and finally took a stroll on the boat before reluctantly heading back.

Huo Ran was very reluctant to leave and fell behind. Jiang's mother and the others seemed to have noticed, but they didn't pay any attention to them. It seemed that they had already tacitly accepted their relationship. However, since the two were not married, it was better to keep some distance even though they could have contact with each other.

When they arrived at the Jiang family's door, Jiang's mother and the others didn't greet Huo Ran and went straight home. Jiang Mi didn't want to keep them there, so the two only held hands for a short while before Jiang Mi went home.

However, some people still witnessed what happened that night. After hearing about what happened last night, Liu Zijun rushed over to confront Jiang Mi the next day, shouting everywhere that Jiang Mi had stolen her fiancé, causing a stir among the neighbors.

Jiang's mother was furious. She didn't know the situation and thought Huo Ran really had a wife he wasn't married to. She said angrily, "I knew it. People in the capital are all very cunning. Huo Ran seems like a good person, but I didn't expect him to have a fiancée behind his back. He tricked my honey so much that she almost became his concubine."

Jiang Mi originally wanted to deal with Liu Zijun, but it seemed that her family had more objections. When she came over, Jiang Cheng felt sorry for his daughter and angry at himself for misjudging her.

“Honey, you don’t need to go out. We’ll handle this woman. We’re all law-abiding citizens and we haven’t done anything wrong. Even if she’s causing trouble, we’re in the right.”

Jiang's mother sighed, her eyes red with anger: "What kind of mess is this? That heartless Huo Ran has ruined my Honey's reputation. What if she can't get married in the future? This is really bad luck!"

Jiang Mi thought it best to try and persuade her family first.

“Father, Mother, I know this Liu Zijun.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Cheng and his mother were even more shocked: "What? You know he has a fiancée? What are you doing? Are you going to become his concubine? I won't allow that! If you dare to become his concubine, I'll cripple your legs today and won't let you leave the house."

Jiang Mi was both amused and exasperated: "No, actually this woman isn't Huo Ran's fiancée. She's the one who's always wanted to marry Huo Ran. She probably heard about Huo Ran accompanying us to the lantern festival last night and got jealous, so she came to cause trouble. I'll take care of it."

Jiang Cheng frowned as he listened: "What nonsense! That won't do either."
