Chapter 352 Untying the Knot
Liang Lan was still crying sadly, "I don't deserve it, I don't deserve you treating me like this!"
Jiang Xuan sighed and said, "Silly girl, why don't you deserve it? You are my wife, it's only right that I treat you well. What's wrong with you today? Why are you suddenly asking such questions? Don't cry, let me see you."
Liang Lan refused to let Jiang Xuan see her, feeling that she looked ugly when she cried and didn't want Jiang Xuan to see her.
"Jiang Xuan, tell me honestly, do you really want a child of your own?"
Jiang Xuan was stunned for a moment. It seemed that Liang Lan had overheard his conversation with his father. He quickly comforted Liang Lan: "Silly girl, I have you, that's enough. It doesn't matter whether there are children or not. Look at the third brother's children, they are really troublesome. I find them very annoying."
Liang Lan didn't know how much of Jiang Xuan's words were true or false. She poured out her heart to Jiang Xuan these past few days: "But I want a child of ours. I want to have your child. I went to see a doctor, and he said I'm fine, and he also said you're fine. So where could the problem be?"
Jiang Xuan was taken aback by this situation and immediately felt both amused and exasperated: "My husband and I are of one mind, we even went to see a doctor together, and we kept it a secret from each other. Since we're both fine, it must be a matter of fate. We won't force it, let it be."
Liang Lan's heart finally calmed down. Even Jiang's mother and Jiang Cheng didn't care about these things, so why should she care? In the end, it only made her and Jiang Xuan very tired.
"Okay, then I'll listen to you and let fate decide. When the time is right, the child will come naturally. If we don't have a child, I have enough with you."
The two embraced each other tenderly, finally able to express their innermost thoughts.
When Jiang Mi got up for breakfast the next day, she saw that her second brother and sister-in-law had become very close, and their relationship was even better than before. Could it be because her mother had persuaded them to get along the day before?
Jiang Mi then turned her gaze to her mother, who nodded. Jiang Mi was relieved; as long as the family was safe and sound, that was all that mattered.
As Su Yindi ate her meal, she noticed that Liang Lan was unusually radiant today, and she was puzzled. She asked, "Second Sister-in-law, are you so happy? Could it be that you're really going out to do business?"
Liang Lan smiled and said, "Not yet. I'll go once I've mastered the skills."
Su Yindi muttered under her breath, "Why can't I persuade you? We're sisters-in-law, after all. What if people see me and ask if that businesswoman is my second sister-in-law? What am I supposed to say?"
Liang Lan said matter-of-factly, "Just answer as you see fit. What's wrong with that? I'm not doing anything immoral."
Before Su Yindi could say anything more, she saw Jiang Xuan constantly putting food on Liang Lan's plate, and the two of them would occasionally exchange glances, looking incredibly affectionate.
Su Yindi glanced at Jiang Zhi again, then focused on eating, not even glancing at her, let alone serving her food.
She angrily knocked the food off Jiang Zhi's chopsticks, and Jiang Zhi said displeasedly, "What are you doing?"
Su Yindi remained silent, sulking, and focused on eating, refusing to say anything more. Jiang Zhi found her behavior utterly baffling.
Ever since the Emperor met Jiang Mi, he has been so distracted that he even forgot his promise to Consort Jing, who had to come and invite him back herself.
"Your Majesty, didn't you say you would have dinner with me tonight? Why haven't you come yet?"
When the Emperor saw Consort Jing, he felt that she was not as beautiful as before, and that the years had left their mark on her face, which was still visible no matter how much effort she put into maintaining her appearance.
"My beloved concubine, I was so busy with official duties that I forgot. If you are hungry, please eat first. You don't have to wait for me."
Consort Jing's womanly intuition told her that the Emperor had changed, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what had changed.
"No, Your Majesty, I must wait for you. Without Your Majesty's company, I can't even enjoy my meals."
The Emperor was getting impatient, but he kept it to himself. He didn't know why he had thought Consort Jing was so good to him before, even though she had investigated so much with that woman. Unfortunately, he was already old and had lost the vigor of his youth. Huo Ran's age was just right.
"I have decided to betroth the top scholar's sister to Huo Ran. What do you think?"
Consort Jing was taken aback, not expecting the Emperor to suddenly change the subject. She blinked and asked, "Why did Your Majesty suddenly bring this up? Didn't you promise to marry Zijun to Huo Ran? Why are you going back on your word?"
When the Emperor heard Consort Jing accuse him, he was immediately displeased: "Did I issue a decree? How is that going back on my word? Are you implying that I must give you whatever you want?"
This was the first time Consort Jing had ever seen the Emperor lose his temper with her. She was so frightened that she immediately knelt down and said aggrievedly, "Your Majesty did not mean that. Why would Your Majesty wish that upon me?"
The Emperor no longer found Consort Jing lovable: "Alright, there's nothing wrong. Don't kneel all the time. I'm tired. You can go back now."
Consort Jing was startled and looked up at the Emperor with teary eyes: "Your Majesty, are you not coming to my place tonight?"
The Emperor didn't even glance at her: "I'm not going. I need to stay up late tonight reviewing memorials. My dear consort, you should go back first."
Consort Jing was good at reading people's expressions. Seeing that the Emperor was already displeased, she stopped pressing the matter and had no choice but to take her leave.
Once outside the Hall of Mental Cultivation, Consort Jing's aggrieved expression had vanished without a trace. She asked the head maid behind her, "Who did His Majesty meet today?"
The head maid said, "Today, apart from the Empress coming to deliver a bowl of white fungus and lotus seed soup to the Emperor, no one else has come."
Consort Jing stopped and looked back at the Hall of Mental Cultivation: "His Majesty would not treat me like this for no reason. Something must have happened. Who is plotting against me behind the scenes?"
The head maid thought for a moment and said, "Oh right, His Majesty also went to pay his respects to the Empress Dowager today."
"Empress Dowager?" Consort Jing didn't believe the Emperor treated her this way because of the Empress Dowager; the Empress Dowager didn't have that kind of power. "Is there nothing else besides this?"
"Oh, right." The head maid suddenly remembered, "Today the Empress Dowager summoned someone, who was the manager of the soap-making shop. She said she wanted to see what this capable person looked like."
Consort Jing thought about it for a moment and didn't feel that anything was wrong. She also didn't know why the Emperor had suddenly brought up the top scholar's sister.
"Go and find out for me who that top scholar's sister is, that she could attract the attention of both the Emperor and Huo Ran. What kind of person is she?"
