Chapter 379 Wedding Night
Under the candlelight, Huo Ran smiled happily. He had never smiled so happily before. Marrying Jiang Mi was truly a very happy and joyful thing for him.
Then the two of them drank a toast together. The wine was peach blossom wine brewed by Jiang Mi herself, and its taste was intoxicating, or perhaps the other person made them drunk.
After all the ceremonies were completed, everyone left, leaving only the newlyweds.
The candlelight inside the room flickered dimly. Jiang Mi lowered her head, too embarrassed to look at him. They had known each other for so long, but she was still very nervous being alone with him in this situation.
Huo Ran was also nervous. He sat on the bed, took Jiang Mi's hand, put it to his lips, and said with a look of tenderness, "Honey, don't worry, I will definitely treat you well in the future, and I will only love you for the rest of my life."
Jiang Mi, however, did not believe in verbal promises. She smiled and said, "I don't listen to what you say. I only watch what you do. Huo Ran, I believe in you, but I don't believe in others, nor in time, nor in the passage of years. So I want to watch with my own eyes how you fulfill your promises. If you fail to do so, I will leave you, no matter who you are. I am not afraid."
Huo Ran knew, of course, that Jiang Mi was capable of doing such a thing, given her personality, but he wouldn't do anything to hurt her.
"Okay, just watch what I do. Don't worry, I will definitely not let you down. Honey, you are finally mine."
Huo Ran embraced Jiang Mi, and the two could finally do intimate things. The candlelight flickered, and their shadows fell on the window curtains, lingering and affectionate.
When Jiang Mi woke up the next day, Huo Ran was already up. He had taken a day off specifically for Jiang Mi, and the Emperor, understanding his new marriage, granted him permission to not attend court for several days in a row.
"Aren't you going to the palace today?" Jiang Mi asked curiously. Although there was no one else in the room, she was still a little embarrassed. He had been too amazing last night.
Seeing Jiang Mi's shy appearance, Huo Ran became even more itchy. The two were newlyweds, and a single glance could ignite a passionate flame. Just then, Mo Hua came in with water, and Huo Ran had no chance to continue his mischief.
Mo Hua was still a little unaccustomed to serving another person, and when she saw Huo Ran, she was stunned for a moment: "Miss, it's time to get up and wash up."
Normally, when Jiang Mi is at home, she sleeps until she naturally wakes up, and no one would come to wake her up. But now it's different; Jiang Mi has to get up to serve tea to her father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Siqin also came in and reminded Mohua, "Mohua, this is just a habit. You should call her Princess Consort now."
Jiang Mi herself was also a little unaccustomed to it. She had been bothered by Huo Ran all night and was exhausted. After washing up, Huo Ran gave her something to eat to fill her stomach, afraid that she would be wronged if she served tea on an empty stomach.
"The young master is so good to the young lady."
Mo Hua sighed softly from behind, while Si Qin said, "Stop calling her 'Miss' and call her 'Princess Consort'. If you keep calling her that, people will say that the Princess Consort's maids are unruly."
The ink painting nodded repeatedly, making sure it was memorized.
When they arrived at the main courtyard, Jiang Mi saw Huo Ran's wife, the Marquis, and his stepmother sitting inside, along with a young boy who was presumably Huo Ran's half-brother.
Jiang Mi first offered tea to the Marquis. Although the Marquis did not particularly like Jiang Mi's status, since he had already entered the house, he could not refuse Huo Ran's request and could only accept the tea. Then Huo Ran offered tea to Madam Huo, who accepted it with a smile.
"That's wonderful. Ran'er has finally married the girl he loves. Although the Jiang family is of a lower social standing, as long as she is a woman who can live a peaceful life, that's enough."
The Marquis beside him sneered, "An Sheng? I heard yesterday that there was a joke about the marriage ceremony."
Huo Ran didn't give anyone a chance to discuss Jiang Mi: "Yesterday's matter was already cleared up on the spot. Mi Tang has no problems at all. Does Father not know right from wrong?"
"You...cough cough..." The Marquis coughed in anger. Anyway, this son had never liked him and hadn't been very close to him over the years. Now that he was older, he was even more uncontrollable.
Madam Huo quickly went over and patted the Marquis on the back: "Oh dear, the children are so big now, don't worry about them anymore. Just take good care of yourself. Besides, their two children are doing very well. As long as the children are doing well, isn't that enough?"
After hearing these words, the Marquis said nothing more. Madam Huo looked at Jiang Mi and said, "Good child, I know you are a reasonable person. From now on, you are family with us. Let's live well together as a family."
The boy next to her snorted coldly, seemingly looking down on Jiang Mi.
Huo Ran didn't even glance at him, and said coldly, "I'm already married. In a few days, I'll move out with my wife, and we'll live separately."
"What?" The Marquis looked at him in shock. "You're moving out? You're dividing the family property?"
Huo Ran nodded: "It was bound to happen sooner or later. I've felt stifled living here all these years and have wanted to leave for a long time. You are the real family. I've always been an outsider. Now I finally have my own home."
The Marquis stared at him blankly, then suddenly revealed a sad expression: "My child, I know you have suffered a lot over the years. I didn't take care of you when you were young. You lost your mother at a young age. Over the years, it was the Empress Dowager and the Emperor who took good care of you, but I have not fulfilled my responsibilities as a father."
As I've gotten older, I've started to repent, but now I suddenly don't need any of that anymore.
"Let's not talk about the past anymore, it's all in the past. I have someone I love who loves me now, and I'm very happy and content. I will have my own children in the future, but I will fulfill my responsibilities and obligations as a father. As for you, Father, you also have your own difficulties. In any case, you have a wife and son now, and I will fulfill my responsibilities as a son."
Mrs. Huo looked sad: "Can't you stay and live with us?"
Huo Ran completely ignored her. If it weren't for his father's reputation, he would have exposed this woman's true colors long ago. This woman hadn't done anything too bad; she was just worried that Huo Ran and her son would fight over the family property.
"Over the years, I have accumulated a considerable amount of my own wealth, which I will take with me. I will not touch anything that belongs to you, so don't worry."
Lady Hou blushed: "No, that's not what I meant..."
Huo Ran didn't want to listen to her rambling, so he left with Jiang Mi, and his steps back became much lighter.
"You seem to have wanted to leave here for a long time, why did you wait until now to leave?"
Seeing him so happy, like a child, Jiang Mi couldn't help but ask.
Huo Ran laughed and said, "Before, I was on my own and could do whatever I wanted. If I didn't like them, I could choose not to see them. But you're different. I don't want you to live a stifling life with me, so let's move out and live on our own. You can do whatever you want. Isn't that better?"
Of course, that would be great. I believe no daughter-in-law wants to be constrained by her elders, and Jiang Mi was overjoyed.
"Okay, okay, where shall we stay?"
Huo Ran said mysteriously, "I'll take you there, and you'll find out."
Huo Ran didn't have much. He already had his own house outside, and he usually kept his important things there. This time, he only brought a small amount of things, even less than Jiang Mi.
The two happily entered their new home, and Jiang Mi discovered that the new home was actually very close to her own home, just across the street.
"You..." Jiang Mi was speechless. Huo Ran was so good to her, always thinking of her needs. It was her good fortune to marry such a husband.
"Are you happy? This way you can go back to your parents' home whenever you want, and no one will interfere. They will also have a place to stay if they want to come."
She's so thoughtful. Even though I'm married, it feels like I'm not.
Jiang Mi's eyes welled up with tears. Although she had experienced such things in her past life, she was so happy in this life. She had such loving family and lover, and she had her own life goals. She felt that her life had been so worthwhile.
"Thank you, Huo Ran."
Huo Ran wiped away her tears: "Silly girl, I prefer to hear you say you love me."
Jiang Mi bit her lip; she couldn't bring herself to say such mushy things, but she was willing to do so as long as Huo Ran was happy.
"I love you."
Huo Ran was stunned. He had only meant to tease Jiang Mi, but he never expected her to actually say it. This was a huge surprise! He happily hugged Jiang Mi and spun her around several times.
When they stopped, Jiang Mi saw Yang Liuer standing opposite her. She had been kicked out by Liu Zijun, and no one believed her anymore. She had become somewhat insane.
Yang Liuer still recognized Jiang Mi. She suddenly smiled and said, "Jiang Mi, you are really lucky. You get all the good things. Why is that? Heaven is not fair."
Jiang Mi sneered, "Heaven has always been fair. It saw how you treated me, so your retribution has come. I am where I am today because of my own efforts. I have never done anything against my conscience, but you have always done so. So you don't need to blame heaven or others. You can only blame yourself."
Yang Liuer gave a cold laugh, then turned and left.
Huo Ran didn't know what Jiang Mi meant by what she just said, but it sounded like she had suffered a lot of grievances.
"Honey, did something bad happen to you before?"
Jiang Mi thought for a moment and said, "There are some, but it's all in the past. Just like when you were a child, we'll be a family from now on, and those things will never happen again."
