Chapter Fifty: The Eldest Brother Arrives
Inside the empty cave, the dripping sound of water mingled with the faint, painful groans of a man.
Huo Ran, half-conscious, had a blurry vision.
It seems he's seen his honey?
That radiant smile that pulled him from the abyss; at this moment, it became so close, yet so unattainable.
Huo Ran gave a self-deprecating laugh. In her dying struggle, she was content to see the person she longed for one last time.
When Jiang Mi looked up, what greeted her eyes was that suddenly cold and self-mocking smile.
His pale face and purplish lips, combined with his handsome features, made him look pitiful no matter how you looked at him.
Jiang Mi was momentarily stunned by his beauty. Everyone loves beauty, especially someone as pleasing to the eye as Huo Ran. It's hard not to love him.
Looking at the man's angular face, there was always a strange sense of familiarity, as if they had known each other for a long time.
Jiang Mi shook her head, quickly dismissing the thought in her mind; she had only had this illusion because she had met Xu Shi many times before.
One is a simple, overweight peasant woman who died tragically, a victim of an unfair fate; the other is a mysterious, wealthy, and elegant young man. They could never have crossed paths before.
She was certain that, apart from the first day of his rebirth, he and Huo Ran had never met before, and were even completely unrelated.
"Honey...don't go!"
Lost in a nightmare, Huo Ran muttered to himself, a thin layer of cold sweat on his forehead, his hand reaching out to grasp at the air, as if trying to hold onto something.
sugar…
Jiang Mi kept chewing on those two words, she must be thinking of other women.
Hearing Huo Ran call someone else "honey" for some reason, I felt a sharp, unbearable pain in my heart, as if I were being pricked by countless needles.
She and Huo Ran had never crossed paths before; their business dealings were purely transactional. What was she agonizing over or feeling sad about?
Having been reborn, when did I become so sentimental?
His thoughts were quickly pulled back, and he swiftly treated Huo Ran's wound.
Huo Ran is temporarily out of danger; the reward has been sent to the system warehouse.
As soon as the system finished speaking, Jiang Mi quickly took out bandages from the warehouse and, following the helpful instructions, rewrapped the bandages on Huo Ran's already treated wound to ensure that everything was perfect.
After dealing with all that, Jiang Mi belatedly realized what was happening and couldn't help but glance downwards, looking at his strong waist and handsome face; her round face immediately flushed red, and she looked somewhat unnatural.
Having lived two lifetimes, I have never been so close to the opposite sex.
Phew! This makes her seem ignorant.
This is not Jiang Mi's fault. Her mother has protected her too well for both of her lives. In addition, in this era, men and women were strictly separated and great importance was placed on purity.
Time flies. By the time Jiang Mi had dressed Huo Ran and settled him in, it was already dark, pitch black.
To ensure their safety, Jiang Mi gathered dry branches on the cave ceiling, partly to scare away wild animals in the mountains and partly to keep warm.
The cave was already chilly, and with the low temperature at night, even if a person was very strong, they might not be able to withstand the cold wind if they were injured.
With this fire, the two of them will feel a little better.
Jiang Mi sat by the fire, sketching and writing with a twig, planning for the future; gazing at the bright moonlight, she felt somewhat melancholy.
I haven't gone home this late, I wonder how my parents are doing.
Just as Jiang Mi was lost in thought, she heard a man's faint mutterings. She was sitting quite far away, and it took her a while to get closer to hear what Huo Ran was saying.
"Honey...honey..."
After confirming that Huo Ran was alright, Jiang Mi breathed a sigh of relief and was about to leave when the man grabbed her wrist tightly.
"Honey, don't go!"
Jiang Mi tried to break free, but the weak man was surprisingly strong. She was a large, obese woman weighing over 100 pounds, and she couldn't shake off the man's single-handed restraint.
Helpless, Jiang Mi could only pretend to be the sweetheart he was talking about, sitting on the edge and gently coaxing him: "I won't go anywhere, I'll stay by your side."
…
Compared to the peaceful life in the cave, the Jiang family in Hongyang Village was in complete chaos.
"How could you let Honey go up the mountain alone so late at night? Are you out of your mind!" Jiang Cheng was agitated, holding his pipe tightly, so angry that he could barely speak.
Jiang's mother was filled with regret, her voice choked with sobs: "What should we do!"
Overwhelmed by worry, Jiang's mother completely forgot the immense strength Jiang Mi used when she went berserk; even when faced with danger, she had a certain ability to protect herself.
Because of Jiang Mi's disappearance, the Jiang family is in complete chaos.
Having just recovered from his injuries, Jiang Yan struggled to get out of bed and went up the mountain alone to find Jiang Mi.
Seeing his eldest son struggling, Jiang Cheng angrily banged his pipe: "Your injuries have only just healed, why are you getting involved in this mess!"
Now that there's been no news about Honey, the boss is causing trouble again. Isn't this just deliberately making things difficult for him?
Jiang Yan patted his chest and repeatedly assured his father, "Father, I've been recuperating for over half a month, and my injuries have fully healed. I'm familiar with the back mountain; I'll go up there to find him!"
In fact, he had recovered half a month ago, but he couldn't go against his mother and father's wishes and stayed in bed for another half month. If he hadn't taken advantage of their absence to get out of bed and move around, he probably would have been moldy by now.
Now my little sister is missing. It's dark and windy, and there are so many wolves and tigers in the back mountains.
"Little sister is so timid, even if she doesn't encounter those ferocious beasts, she'll still get sick from being scared!" Jiang Yan brainwashed everyone one after another.
Upon hearing this, Jiang's mother became even more anxious and, ignoring Jiang Cheng's objections, said, "Quickly take a few people up the mountain to look for your little sister. You must bring her back!"
I have three sons, but only one sweetheart. I absolutely cannot let anything happen to her.
Hearing his mother's words, Jiang Yan wasn't angry. After all, as a doting brother, he shared the same thoughts as his mother.
And so, Jiang Yan gathered several young men from the village to go up the mountain together to find Jiang Mi.
Time slips away bit by bit.
Jiang Mi sat by the fire, feeling drowsy, but she forced herself to stay awake as much as possible.
Huo Ran is currently seriously injured and usually sleeps very soundly. If she encounters any danger, she might only be awakened when she is about to be eaten by wild animals; therefore, she dares not sleep.
Just then, a rustling sound came from the cave entrance. Jiang Mi immediately became alert and carefully moved to the cave entrance with a torch in hand.
"Little sister! Little sister!"
Upon closer listening, I was surprised to hear the voice of my elder brother, Jiang Yan.
Jiang Mi's eyes lit up, and she waved the torch in her hand, calling out in the direction of the shouts, "Big Brother!"
Upon hearing his younger sister's voice, Jiang Yan hurried towards the cave. As he approached, he saw his younger sister sitting alone by the fire, covered in ash and blood.
Jiang Yan was very worried and looked Jiang Mi up and down: "How are you? Are you hurt anywhere?"
