Chapter Sixty-Five: Visiting My Two Older Brothers
"I'm going to burn them all down!"
Jiang's mother cursed and swore, her chest heaving with anger. She had absolutely no liking for these cursed creatures; she wished they would all die.
If it weren't for this wretched thing, how could the Great Qing Kingdom have experienced food shortages and barely been able to feed itself?
Seeing that there was hope, Jiang Mi continued, "This is just a stalk of rice that my daughter casually broke off by the roadside. If it all hatches, what a disaster it would be!"
Hearing this, Jiang's mother didn't hesitate any longer and said boldly, "Buy them! Chicks and ducklings won't do. Buy the adult ones, fifty of each."
Compared to silver, Mother Jiang was more concerned about food; without food, what use was silver, since silver couldn't fill one's stomach.
"I'll go to town with you later, and we can take the new clothes I made for the second and third sons there." Mother Jiang was worried about her daughter going alone.
“Okay!” Jiang Mi had no objections at all. It was already quite good that she was able to persuade her mother to buy chickens and ducks.
…
"Ergou, are you free today?"
Jiang Mu and Jiang Mi found Liu Ergou weeding in the rice paddy.
Liu Ergou looked up, put down his hoe, and chuckled, "Sister Jiang, I'm fine."
"It's good that you're alright. Could you take my daughter and me to town to run some errands? I won't let you make a wasted trip." Jiang's mother had a good impression of Liu Ergou; the boy was honest, kind, and obedient.
Children this age usually like to act wildly and jump around, but Liu Ergou honestly helped Jiang Zhi, who was on the live stream, to work in the fields.
"Okay!" Liu Ergou did not refuse and nodded in agreement.
Jiang's mother packed the new clothes for her second and third sons into a bundle, along with some silver; then she and Jiang Mi rode in Liu Ergou's oxcart towards the town.
The three of them endured a bumpy journey and didn't arrive in town until noon.
The town was still bustling with people; just like last time, Jiang's mother took out a string of copper coins and gave them to Liu Ergou.
This time, Liu Ergou didn't refuse and obediently accepted.
He always remembered his father's words: "If Aunt Jiang gives you money, you should accept it, otherwise Aunt Jiang will turn against you; if the amount is large, then don't accept it."
“Auntie, I’ll wait for you here this evening. Please come back soon; I’m going to sell these bamboo baskets.”
"Yes," Jiang's mother glanced at the brand-new bamboo baskets placed on the oxcart and nodded in agreement.
The two groups parted ways.
Jiang Mi followed her mother to deliver the new clothes to her second and third brothers.
Jiang's mother took Jiang Mi to a stall opposite Wutong Academy and ordered two bowls of cold water, while her two sons also went to class.
Looking at the four characters of Wutong Academy, Jiang Mi was moved and felt a mix of emotions.
If it weren't for her stubbornness, her second and third brothers wouldn't have lost their lives; perhaps with her intelligence, her second brother would have already entered the palace as an official.
Thinking of this, Jiang Mi felt melancholy.
Before long, a steady stream of students emerged from Wutong Academy.
Each of them held a book in their hands, exuding a scholarly aura and possessing a gentle and refined demeanor. The sight of several of them sitting and walking together was pleasing to the eye.
Jiang Zhi, who had just come out of the academy, stared in astonishment at Jiang Mi and Jiang Xuan sitting at the stall. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief and tugged at Jiang Xuan beside him, "Second brother, am I seeing things?"
Jiang Xuan frowned slightly and said with displeasure, "What did you see that made you so flustered?"
Reprimanded by his second brother, Jiang Zhi wasn't annoyed. He just stared blankly at Jiang Mi and said, "I must be seeing things. Otherwise, how could I have seen Mother and Little Sister sitting there?"
Little sister?
Jiang Xuan followed Jiang Zhi's gaze and indeed saw two very familiar figures.
"You're not seeing things, it really is Mother and Little Sister."
Having received his second brother's approval, Jiang Zhi's eyes lit up: "Then let's hurry over there."
"Ziru, are these your mother and younger sister? Why does your younger sister look as fat as a pig?" A man laughed and mocked Jiang Mi's obese figure.
Enraged, Jiang Zhi grabbed the man's collar and demanded, "Say that again if you dare!"
The man was not afraid at all, and continued to provoke with arrogant words: "Look! Has he lost his temper? Look, Jiang Zhi has started hitting people."
"You!" Jiang Zhi gritted his teeth in anger, and was about to punch the man.
"Stop." Jiang Xuan raised his hand to stop them, and smiled, "Third brother, don't argue with beasts. If a dog bites you, are you going to bite the dog back?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhi grinned and quickly released the man: "Second Brother is right, we can't argue with a beast."
Upon hearing this, the man became enraged, his gentle and refined face turning ferocious: "You!"
“Come on, hit me, hit me here!” Jiang Zhi pointed at his face, his tone extremely arrogant.
"Hmph!" The man snorted coldly, glared fiercely at Jiang Zhi, and threatened through gritted teeth, "You just wait!"
…
Just after drinking a bowl of cold water, Jiang Mi turned her head and saw her second and third brothers. She tugged at her mother's sleeve and said, "Mother, I think I saw my second and third brothers."
Following the gaze, Jiang's mother saw her second and third sons, whom she hadn't seen for many days.
Jiang Mi walked over quickly and looked at her two brothers, who were standing in front of her, looking so lifelike. Her nose tingled and she held back her tears. She pulled her mother and ran to their side.
"Second Brother, Third Brother!" Because of the guilt from her past life, Jiang Mi's smile was especially bright when she saw her second and third brothers again.
After several courses of systematic treatment, Jiang Mi's figure has taken shape; her small face still has a bit of baby fat, making her look exceptionally cute; her eyebrows and eyes are curved and glistening with tears.
In addition, the care and attention given to Jiang Mi by her mother has further enhanced her temperament.
Even so, her appearance still surpasses that of many beauties, and many men are amazed by Jiang Mi's looks.
Even the man who had just spoken ill of Jiang Mi looked like a clown, his face showing embarrassment.
"What are you looking at? This is my little sister!" Jiang Zhi stood in front of Jiang Mi as if protecting his own, his face full of displeasure.
A bunch of seemingly refined scoundrels, judging by their appearance, they're clearly after his little sister.
Bah! None of the people here are good enough for you, little sister.
Since Jiang Zhi had already acted this way, those people dared not linger there any longer. After all, their gazes were so blatant that it made them look bad.
The group left happily, leaving only the family of four behind.
Jiang Xuan looked at the graceful young woman with a face full of doting affection: "My little sister is becoming more and more beautiful and charming."
Whether in terms of temperament or speech, my younger sister has grown a lot.
Jiang Mi blushed and pursed her lips slightly: "Second brother and third brother too."
Jiang Xuan and Jiang Zhi were already quite good-looking, and after being exposed to books, they acquired a touch of scholarly elegance.
And the second brother truly lived up to the saying "like jade on the road".
"Of course, look who I am. I inherited my parents' fine traditions." Jiang Zhi spoke proudly, his eyes and brows revealing the arrogance that a young man should have.
“I bought some fabric a few days ago and made some new clothes for you, so I brought them to you.”
