Chapter Thirty: Reasonable Arrangements
One sentence struck Jiang Mi like a bombshell.
She shuddered and forced herself to calm down.
Ten thousand taels!
After this incident, Jiang Mi redefined Huo Ran's worth.
He carefully put away the silver notes, his smile growing even brighter.
"All of this is negotiable!"
Seeing this, a smile flashed in Huo Ran's eyes. This little girl is quite the money-grubber.
Feeling Huo Ran's slightly indulgent gaze, Jiang's mother's eyebrows twitched. She stepped aside to shield Jiang Mi and said, "This wasteland still needs to be stamped by the village chief and the head of the village, Young Master Huo. It might be a bit late, and it's getting late..."
Jiang's mother hesitated, but the unspoken message was that it was time for her to leave.
Those present were all intelligent people, so they naturally understood what was meant.
Huo Ran remained unmoved and took out a land deed from his pocket: "I have already prepared all of these. We can plant them together in a few days."
The mother and daughter looked up and saw that it was stamped with the seals of the village head and the village chief.
Jiang's mother pursed her lips, her expression displeased.
Huo Ran glanced at Jiang's mother out of the corner of his eye and took the initiative to say, "I have important matters to attend to, so I will take my leave now."
He turned and left.
Even as she left, she didn't forget to glance at Jiang Mi one last time.
This infuriated Jiang's mother, but thinking of her daughter's innocent mind, she warned, "Honey, apart from your brothers and parents, you must carefully consider any terms that others negotiate with you, and you must not agree to them casually."
"I'll do whatever you say, Mother." Jiang Mi's mind was filled with those five thousand taels of silver notes, and she nodded in agreement to whatever her mother said.
Seeing her daughter say this, Jiang's mother finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After saying that, Jiang Mi pulled her mother towards the room. Looking around and seeing that no one was around, she closed the door and took out the silver note that Huo Ran had just given her from her bosom.
"Mother, this is the deposit that Young Master Huo just gave me."
Jiang's mother recalled Huo Ran's expression earlier and didn't look too friendly, but when she saw the silver notes on the table, she trembled with fright.
"Five thousand taels! Young Master Huo, could you have given me the wrong amount?" In all her life, she had never seen so many silver notes.
That much money is enough for her ancestors to live on for two generations.
“I just did a careful calculation, and all the effort, money, and manpower we’ve expended are worth the price,” Jiang Mi explained from the side.
Huo Ran's cultivated land covers a full 70 acres, which means they need to hire several more workers.
Not to mention the difficulty of managing such a large area, even such a large space is enough to give them a lot of trouble.
With lingering fear, Jiang's mother patted her chest and pushed the silver notes on the table in front of Jiang Mi, saying gently, "Honey, keep these safe."
Even if Jiang Mi didn't say anything, Jiang's mother knew that this little girl would definitely hand over all of these to her for safekeeping.
“Mother!” Jiang Mi frowned slightly, somewhat disapproving of her mother’s approach: “Mother, we will need your help in planting sweet potatoes in the future. You can manage the workers’ wages from now on. I have other things to do.”
According to the system's calculations, there is still a lot to be done, and she will definitely be too busy to take care of herself and will have to ask for outside help.
The mother and daughter pushed and shoved each other, but Jiang's mother couldn't persuade her daughter otherwise, so she had no choice but to put the money away.
"Mother, now that so many more acres of land have been added, shouldn't the remaining ten people also be selected?"
"become!"
At dinner time, everyone gathered together.
"In a few days, the sweet potato planting base will officially open. From now on, all the big and small affairs of the family will be handled by the second son's wife and the third son's wife." Mother Jiang assigned the tasks with a serious expression.
Su Yindi pouted and retorted somewhat unhappily, "Mother, I want to write for a few days. Lately, I don't know why, but I always feel back pain and can't straighten up."
If this continues, she's bound to develop health problems.
Hearing Su Yindi's words, Jiang's mother glared at her and took out half a silver coin from her bosom: "If you're not feeling well, go to town and get a proper check-up. Don't let people say that our Jiang family is neglecting our daughter-in-law."
Su Yindi's eyes lit up when she saw the money, and she quickly put it away.
"I'll go check it out when I have time!"
Unexpectedly, her mother was so generous this time. Seeing the money, her illness immediately improved significantly.
Seeing her third son's wife laughing carefree, Jiang's mother looked disgusted.
Sure enough, there's no illness that money can't cure for the third son's wife.
“Mother, I’ll go to town tomorrow to quit my job at the restaurant and come back to help. You and my little sister won’t be able to handle it all by yourselves!” Jiang Yan said.
With so many acres of land to manage, how could my mother and younger sister, two frail women, possibly handle it all?
“I’ll come and help out tomorrow!” Father Jiang chimed in from the side.
"That's fine." Mother Jiang nodded in agreement. "Then the planting will be left to you two, father and son, to oversee."
Managing 100 acres of land is quite a challenge for her and Honey, so it would be better to have the father and son help out.
After Jiang's mother made reasonable arrangements, everyone went about their own business.
That night.
Jiang Mi gazed at the bright moonlight, her eyes filled with longing for the future.
Now, life is going in the opposite direction of what she imagined.
By avoiding the willows, the tragedy of the previous life will not be repeated.
A cold glint flashed in Jiang Mi's eyes as she thought of the information provided by the system.
Willow! You owe me, and I'll make you pay a hundredfold sooner or later.
Meanwhile, Jiang's mother was also unable to sleep.
"Are you out of your mind tonight? You're pacing back and forth, it's making me dizzy!" Father Jiang complained, puffing on his pipe as he watched his wife pacing back and forth.
"What do you know!" Jiang's mother glared at Jiang's father. "We are not what we used to be. Our sudden rise will inevitably arouse the envy of some people, and then there will be a lot of trouble! How can I not worry!"
As the saying goes, when you're down on your luck, nobody cares about you; when you're doing well, some people would love for you to be worse off than anyone else.
"I thought it was something serious!" Mr. Jiang sighed. "We've been thinking about this all day. The most important thing right now is to get some rest!"
"Sigh!" Jiang's mother sighed and climbed into bed.
The next day, the rooster crowed.
Jiang Mi had a wonderful dream last night, so she got up very early this morning, at 3 a.m.
Because of the biological clock developed from working in the fields, most villagers get up as early as four o'clock.
After everyone got up, Jiang Mi had already prepared breakfast.
Looking at the sumptuous breakfast on the table, Jiang's mother frowned and scolded her with dissatisfaction, "You child, why didn't you sleep a little longer? What are you doing up so early? Making breakfast is something I can do, or at least your sister-in-law. Why should you do this kind of work!"
She knew her daughter had a great talent for cooking, but she still felt very sorry for her.
“It’s just making breakfast, Mother, you’re making a big fuss over nothing. I get up early every day with you and I have to make just as much!” Su Yindi retorted unhappily from the side. She gets up so early every day, but her mother never seems to care about her.
Can you be compared to honey?
