Chapter Ninety-One: Su Yindi's Reflections
"who!"
When the man came out, Jiang Mi suddenly blocked his path.
The thief seemed surprised to be discovered and stumbled back several steps before falling to the ground, dropping the rabbit meat he was carrying.
The thief picked it up with a pained expression, seemingly blaming Jiang Mi for scaring him, and glared at her fiercely.
? ? ?
A thief was discovered but was still so arrogant, so Jiang Mi went up and ripped off the cloth covering the thief's face.
"Third sister-in-law?!"
Su Yindi tried to stop him but failed. Since he had already been seen, he decided to just give up and do whatever he wanted.
"It's me. What are you going to do? Tell Mother?"
Jiang Mi looked at her with a hopeless expression: "Why are you stealing in your own home? What are you doing stealing this rabbit meat? Are you craving it?"
Su Yindi instantly lost her confidence. She had only intended to steal the meat to save face when she returned to her parents' home on the Mid-Autumn Festival, but if her mother-in-law found out, she would probably really divorce her.
"I...I came to check if the rabbit meat had gone bad. Don't accuse me of stealing it!"
When Jiang Mi saw that Su Yindi was lying through her teeth, she immediately pretended to wake up her mother and the others. Su Yindi was really scared and knelt down in front of Jiang Mi.
Jiang Mi was startled: "What are you doing?"
Su Yindi bit her lip and said, "Jiang Mi, I'm begging you, please don't tell Mother, otherwise she will definitely make your third brother divorce me."
Jiang Mi remembered that her third brother and sister-in-law had a good relationship. As long as his sister-in-law didn't cross his bottom line, he could tolerate it.
"Then tell me, why did you steal things from home? Although sometimes I was afraid you would give money to your family and wouldn't let you have too much money, I've never mistreated you and I've always turned a blind eye to your behavior. So why did you steal?"
Su Yindi suddenly closed her eyes, but still said, "There are only two days left until the Mid-Autumn Festival. If I look too shabby when I go back to my parents' home, I'll definitely get a beating. Plus, the other day... Come to think of it, it's all your fault, Jiang Mi!"
Jiang Mi couldn't understand Su Yindi's thought process; it was clearly Su Yindi who couldn't think straight!
She went straight to the kitchen, grabbed a ladle, scooped up a ladle of cold water, and poured it over Su Yindi's head.
[Warning! A good woman shouldn't treat her family like this. Punishment: one electric shock!]
Jiang Mi twitched slightly, but she was used to it and didn't take the system's words to heart.
Su Yindi was drenched and stood there stunned.
Do you think it's right for your family to treat you this way?
Su Yindi stared blankly at Jiang Mi, who was soaking wet and had her hair sticking to her body.
"Jiang Mi, how dare you splash water on me! Yes, I don't have your good fortune. You not only have parents who love you, but also three older brothers who dote on you. What do I have? My parents only treat me a little better after I give money to my brother. What can I do?"
Jiang Mi suddenly felt that Su Yindi also had a pitiful side. Thinking of the system's words, as a "good woman," she should help her family, especially since she was the woman her third brother loved.
"It's because you keep tolerating them that they've become so demanding. They gave you life and raised you, but all you need to do is be filial to them. Why should they be filial to your brother? I don't believe that if you stand up for yourself, they can still bully you."
Su Yindi was stunned by what Jiang Mi said. From childhood to adulthood, her parents had always kept her and her two sisters in line, warning them to help their younger brother and to give way to him. Her brother was the only male in their family and the only heir of the Su family!
But has anyone ever cared about her?
"Su Yindi, it's all your fault for being weak. You always doubt the intentions of those who are good to you, but you still fawn over those who are not. Aren't you pathetic?"
Su Yindi was unwilling to believe Jiang Mi's words, or rather, she already knew in her heart but was unwilling to admit that Jiang Mi was right.
"Those are the people who gave me life and raised me, they are my family, how could they possibly treat me badly? Don't try to fool me!"
Seeing that she was beyond help, Jiang Mi didn't bother to argue with her anymore.
"Whatever you want. Put the rabbit meat back now, and I can pretend I didn't see it. Otherwise, if Mom finds out tomorrow, I won't help you cover it up!"
After Jiang Mi finished speaking, she went back to her room to sleep. Su Yindi watched her back with a complicated expression.
The next day, when Jiang Mi got up, she found that everything was normal. It seemed that although Su Yindi was stubborn, he had obediently put the rabbit meat back.
During breakfast, Jiang's mother suddenly took out three strings of cash and placed them in front of Liu He, Liang Lan, and Su Yindi respectively.
"Tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival. You should go back to your parents' home to visit them and bring them some nice things."
Liu He and Liang Lan happily accepted the gifts and thanked Jiang's mother.
Su Yindi looked at the string of cash in front of her, then glanced at Jiang Mi, and finally slowly put it into her bosom.
"Thank you, Mother."
Jiang's mother glanced at her and said, "Your family situation is different from others. If we buy too little, you'll probably be upset. Take the rabbit from the kitchen with you too."
After saying that, she was afraid that the eldest and second sons' families would think she was being biased: "Although her brother was in the wrong first, Honey did injure her brother after all. They are all relatives, so let's consider it compensation."
That rabbit meat is much rarer than a string of cash.
Liu He knew the situation but didn't take it to heart.
"We all know that my sister-in-law has had a tough time."
Su Yindi bit her chopsticks, remembering what Jiang Mi had said last night. The Jiang family seemed to treat her better than her own relatives, but who knew if they were sincere?
Seeing that Su Yindi was standing there like a block of wood, Liang Lan nudged her with her arm and said, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and thank your mother!"
Just as Su Yindi was about to speak, Jiang's mother put down the bowl and said, "Alright, I don't need these fancy tricks. Just wash the bowl clean. I need to go check on the fields."
After Jiang's mother left, the others also put down their bowls and went to the fields.
Su Yindi quietly cleared away the dishes by herself, while Jiang Mi stood beside her watching.
“I didn’t say anything.”
Su Yindi didn't say anything, and went into the kitchen after she finished tidying up.
Jiang Mi felt it was time to give her time to see the people around her clearly, so she left home, leaving Su Yindi alone.
“My father said that people outside the family are unreliable, only blood relatives are reliable.”
She was talking to herself, and it's unclear whether she was trying to brainwash herself.
As soon as Jiang Mi stepped out the door, she saw the villagers rushing out of the village. She wondered what was going on and watched curiously. Suddenly, she saw Liu Ergou running in the crowd and quickly called him to stop.
