Chapter 109 Sun Qinwan is caught
Su's mother glared at Su Yindi and said, "What do you know? You're a good-for-nothing!"
Su Yindi dared not utter a sound.
Jiang Zhi saw Su Xing sit down with his legs on the table, looking nonchalant, and he looked down on him. If Su Xing wasn't Su Yindi's brother, he wouldn't have helped him.
How much do ordinary workers earn?
Jiang Zhi was taken aback: "I don't know about that. My family pays all the wages. I don't care about these things."
Su's mother snorted. She remembered that Su Xing had been beaten before, and thought that perhaps this was the Jiang family trying to make amends with them.
“I rushed back in the middle of the night last night, thinking you two had a fight. Is it really worth coming back just for something like this, and then having to sleep at home for a night?”
Su Yindi breathed a sigh of relief. She had been wondering how she would explain to her family that she wanted to stay a few more days if Jiang Zhi hadn't come to pick her up today. After all, her family hadn't prepared rooms for the three of them, and they were already being looked down upon for eating a few meals at home.
Sure enough, Su's mother said disdainfully, "Hurry up and leave. Staying at home will only waste the family's food. There's no way we'll give you that much to eat. Don't come to your parents' house unless you have to. This is no longer your home."
Su Yindi felt like crying when she heard this. She felt that she no longer had a home. She was disliked at her parents' home and bullied at her husband's home. Her husband did not understand her. She felt that life was extremely meaningless.
“Okay, let’s go home now.” Jiang Zhi took Su Yindi’s hand. Although the two of them had quarreled, Jiang Zhi was still very unhappy that someone spoke about his wife like that, even if that person was Su Yindi’s own mother.
Su Yindi's eyes were slightly red. She held back her tears and obediently let Jiang Zhi pull her away.
Su's mother couldn't wait for them to leave so she wouldn't have to eat at home. She was extremely reluctant to part with the food at home; she'd rather give it to her son.
Jiang Zhi held Su Yindi's hand in silence the whole way until they were almost home. Then, Jiang Zhi turned to Su Yindi and said, "Yindi, it's my fault. I'm your husband, so I should be more understanding and patient with you. My parents and my sister have all scolded me. I won't be angry with you anymore."
Su Yindi could no longer hold back her tears. She threw herself into Jiang Zhi's arms, crying, and said aggrievedly, "No matter what, I am still your wife. You shouldn't treat me like this."
Jiang Zhi then asked her, "Do you know where you went wrong?"
Su Yindi thought for a moment and said in a low voice, "I should get along well with your family and not be so petty."
Jiang Zhi smiled and nodded: "It's good that you know. We're all family. They've never said anything bad about you, so don't take it so seriously."
Su Yindi didn't want to be divorced either, otherwise she would have nowhere to go.
"Okay, I understand."
When Jiang Zhi returned with Su Yindi, Jiang's mother acted as if nothing had happened and said to the two of them, "The housework is yours now. We're going to the fields. The sweet potatoes are almost ripe."
Jiang Zhi quickly replied, "I'll go too."
Jiang's mother stopped him: "You and your second brother stay here and study hard. The academy will open in a few days, and you will have to go back. Your sister is at home too, so please take care of her."
Jiang Zhi nodded quickly, while Su Yindi stood there blankly, not knowing what to say. Jiang's mother didn't say anything to her, which surprised Su Yindi.
Hearing the noise, Jiang Mi asked Jiang Zhi and his sister, "Third Brother, Third Sister-in-law, have you eaten?"
Jiang Mi knew the Su family was stingy and knew that Su's mother would definitely not invite them to stay for dinner.
At this moment, Su Yindi's stomach suddenly growled. She hadn't eaten last night, and when she returned to the Su family home late at night, her mother hadn't given her anything to eat. In the morning, she had only drunk a bowl of porridge, which contained only a few grains of rice and was more accurately described as rice soup.
She was starving by then, but when Jiang Mi overheard her, she still felt ashamed.
Jiang Zhi barely ate anything in the morning before being chased away: "Come on, let's go eat. I'm starving."
Jiang Mi breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that the two had made up. Just then, Huo Ran arrived with his men, saying that they had caught Sun Qinwan. As the victim, Jiang Mi was going to identify the murderer.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhi also wanted to go.
"Where is that woman? I want to ask her why she harmed my honey!"
Jiang Mi didn't want Jiang Zhi to go, so she said to him, "You should stay home and keep your sister-in-law company. With Young Master Huo here, you can rest assured."
Jiang Zhi was naturally unwilling, so Jiang Xuan came out and said, "Third brother, you stay home. I'll go with Honey."
Seeing that Jiang Xuan had said this, Jiang Zhi had no choice but to stay; they needed someone to accompany Jiang Mi to feel at ease.
Jiang Mi knew that they would definitely not agree if she didn't let them come along, so she had no choice but to agree.
When they met Sun Qinwan, she was much more disheveled than before. After all, she was no longer the daughter of the county magistrate, and now she was even worse off than ordinary people.
"Sun Qinwan, why did you hire someone to harm my sister!" Jiang Xuan immediately launched into a tirade against Sun Qinwan upon seeing her. He had previously been grateful to Sun Qinwan for helping him, but it turned out that it was all an act.
Sun Qinwan was no longer flustered as she had been when she was first arrested. She looked down on everyone and said with disdain, "Who are you? What right do you have to interrogate me? Do you think a mere village head dares to question me?"
Jiang Mi sneered and asked her, "You still think you're the magistrate's daughter? You're just a prisoner now!"
Jiang Mi hated her to the core. This woman almost made her repeat the mistakes of her past life. In truth, the two of them didn't have any deep-seated hatred. Why did Sun Qinwan want to harm her like this?
“Sun Qinwan, we’ve only had two minor disagreements at most. Why would I ask you to do this to me?”
Sun Qinwan glared fiercely at Jiang Mi: "I just can't stand to see you doing well. In all my life, what is there that I can't have? I hate that your eyes are prettier than mine. And you, Jiang Xuan, it's your loss that you rejected me. As long as I live, I will never let your Jiang family go!"
"How dare you! This is a public court! How dare you shout like this!" the village headman rebuked.
Sun Qinwan sneered, "Who do you think you are? You're just a village head. It's not your place to speak here. Even if you want to interrogate me, you need the county magistrate's confirmation."
Huo Ran snorted coldly, took out the imperial edict, and said to Sun Qinwan, "With the Emperor's decree, the village head Zhao Decai has been promoted to the position of magistrate of Shushan County, an exception made for him. The magistrate is now sitting on the throne. Do you have anything else to say?"
Huo Ran's words shocked everyone present. Zhao Decai stood up shakily. He had never thought that he would sit in this position one day. He had neither a noble birth nor passed the imperial examination, so he had no chance. He was already very content to be a village head in this life.
