Can we change the character in Chapter 5?

Originally, Jin Shu wanted to drink a couple more glasses and then pretend to be drunk in order to escape the tragic fate of having to pay the bill in the end.

Later, listening to the shopkeeper and Li Jin chatting back and forth, I drank one cup after another, forgetting to control my pace, and ended up drinking too much.

When I regained consciousness and opened my eyes, I was in this unfamiliar room and in this unfamiliar bed.

She sat there blankly, and subconsciously lifted the blanket covering her to take a look.

Someone had removed the coroner's black robe, but fortunately, the white shirt underneath was still there. When I touched it, the bodice was also intact.

Well, the fact that I am a woman should not have been revealed.

She got up, looked around the room, and paused slightly when she saw the new clothes that had been washed and folded.

This outfit looks a little different from the black robe I wore yesterday...

Two knocks sounded, and a familiar voice came from outside: "Sister, are you awake?"

Jin Shu was taken aback, turned around and walked over, opening the door a crack.

Seeing that Jin Rong was the only one outside, she felt relieved and let him into the house: "Didn't I tell you, once you leave the house, you have to call me brother?"

Jin Rong, who had just turned six, grinned and chuckled as she looked at her sister, who was as energetic as ever: "Sister scared me to death yesterday. She got so drunk that she had to be carried back to Lord Liu's mansion by that big brother."

He watched as Jin Shu turned to pour water, then happily went over to her, moved to the table, and asked cheerfully, "Is my sister getting married?"

With a "pfft," the water he had just drunk was vomited out before he could swallow it.

Jin Shu wiped her mouth, glared at him, and said, "Don't talk nonsense at such a young age. That's Prince Jing's personal guard with a sword. Be careful, he could take our lives in a minute."

After she finished speaking, Jin Rong tilted her head in confusion, sat down at the table, and said with her head in her hand, "That big brother didn't have a knife, and he was a very nice person. He even taught Rong'er to read at noon. Sister, your new clothes were also given to you by that big brother."

Jin Shu paused.

"But there was a man dressed in black next to him, carrying a long knife, who looked rather fierce."

Inside, there was a deathly silence.

Jin Shu stood there for a long time before slowly putting down the cup in her hand and taking a deep breath.

It felt as if I was being led to the execution ground, taking my last breath; my heart was heavy.

No, she had to go find Liu Cheng'an and tell him she couldn't do this job. If things continued like this, both of them would lose their heads.

"Rong'er is with Lord Liu. You must listen to Madam." She put on her clothes and tightened her waistband. "I'm going to find Lord Liu. You must be good."

After saying that, she smiled and gently stroked Jin Rong's cheek.

Actually, the boy in front of her was not her biological younger brother.

That winter, Jin Shu's parents were robbed and killed. After burying them, she originally planned to pack her bags and travel alone after spring arrived. However, in the dead of winter, a ragged woman about to give birth knocked on the door of the old house.

Jin Shu, who had worked as a forensic doctor for over ten years in her previous life, couldn't bear it and quickly stepped in to deliver the baby.

However, the girl had a difficult childbirth. After giving birth to the boy, she used her remaining strength to give Jin Shu a white jade pendant, leaving only the words, "Rong'er is in your care," before passing away.

From that time on, Jin Shu single-handedly took on the roles of both father and mother. At only fifteen years old, she desperately raised him as his older sister.

Fortunately, he still remembered most of his past life and, with his forensic skills, he was able to establish himself in the Dingzhou government.

Until one day, the head of the Six Doors, Prince Jing of the current dynasty, fell from the sky. His peaceful life was completely shattered.

As Jin Shu turned through the two courtyard gates on her way to the study, she saw Liu Cheng'an running happily from the front yard towards the study.

Seeing her approaching, he quickly raised his hand and called out, "Hey! Mr. Jin! We've found him!"

Holding the piece of paper, he approached with a gleam in his eye: "Just as you said, she is a courtesan. According to the old madam of the brothel, she has been missing for five or six days."

Upon hearing his words, Jin Shu immediately forgot what she wanted to say, took the paper from Liu Cheng'an's hand, and examined it carefully.

At that moment, Liu Cheng'an suddenly noticed her unusual attire and remarked with some surprise, "Why is Mr. Jin wearing the coroner's robes of the Six Doors? I must say, they fit quite well."

After saying that, he suddenly realized what he had said, and his face turned pale: "Are you going to work for the Six Doors? You can't do that!"

He lowered his voice anxiously: "To enter the Six Doors, one must verify one's identity. If you go there, my true identity as a woman will surely be exposed."

Jin Shu, however, remained calm and didn't even raise her head: "How could I possibly go? Rong'er still needs to study. I've already discussed it with the teacher. What would happen to Rong'er if I went?"

She closed the paper in her hand: "But then again, Lord Liu, His Highness Prince Jing doesn't play by the rules, and I really can't handle it... Why don't you find another coroner to help His Highness Prince Jing solve cases?"

Let alone her, even Liu Cheng'an, who had been an official for more than ten years, couldn't handle it.

“Alas, I already brought this up last night, but for some reason, His Highness Prince Jing just wouldn’t change it. And…” Liu Cheng’an frowned, standing there hesitating for a long time, “Mr. Jin… do you know how much silver you spent at Lianxiang Restaurant last night?”

Before Jin Shu could react, he added with great difficulty, "Even if we sell your old house, it still won't be enough to block it."

Jin Shu stood there, mouth agape, "Hey, Lord Liu, shouldn't the expenses for entertaining His Highness Prince Jing be covered by public funds?"

"That's because His Highness said he wants you to pay, anyone else can do it."

Good heavens, Jin Shu immediately got angry, pacing back and forth in the yard with her hands on her hips: "How could he do this! I still thought he was genuinely trying to solve the case, and I helped him as much as I could, how could he do this!?"

"The house is gone, the money is gone, and Jinrong needs to go to school next month. The teacher still needs to pay a lot of money!"

At this point, Jin Shu felt a pang of sadness, her eyes reddened, and she wiped away a tear.

At the corner, Li Jin, who had watched the whole thing, was originally unmoved by her hard heart, but she frowned slightly the moment she raised her hand to wipe away her tears.

"...Am I being unreasonable?" He turned his head slightly and glanced at Zhou Zheng beside him.

He looked away, coughed lightly, and shook his head against his will: "Your Highness is only thinking of her future, it's not excessive."

Hearing this, Li Jin felt much calmer.

He walked out dismissively, stood in front of the study door, and looked down at the two people in front of him: "Awake?"

Jin Shu had her back to him, while Liu Cheng'an, who was standing in front of her, smiled awkwardly and quickly patted her arm, signaling her to adjust her mindset.

"Now that you're awake, take me to the fish market," Li Jin said with a faint smile, watching her retreating figure.

"I'm not going." Jin Shu didn't turn around, but just stood there with her back to him, using those three words to scare Liu Cheng'an so much that his legs went weak.

Seeing her stubborn look, Li Jin walked up to her with interest: "If you catch the person, I'll pay for the meal."

"But if we can't catch him..." He didn't finish his sentence, flicked his sleeve, and walked out with a smile.

Looking at the "idle prince's" irritating appearance, Jin Shu took a deep breath. Liu Cheng'an both comforted and shoved her, and after a while, she reluctantly followed him.

As he walked, his fist hardened.
