Chapter 299 Jin Shu's Side Story: Another Day of Being Manipulated (Part Two)
I'm very upset.
I looked around at the low wall for a long time, but I couldn't see anything unusual about it.
But they happened to run into Li Qian who was passing by.
She stepped down from the carriage and, seeing me staring intently at the palace wall in front of me, asked in surprise, "What is the Crown Princess looking at?"
I paused for a moment: "She's not the Crown Princess yet."
But Li Qian grinned and nudged me with her elbow: "It's okay, everyone knows what happened yesterday. Father even asked my brother to bring you some incense to help you have a safe pregnancy and sleep."
What happened yesterday?
I hesitated for a moment, then asked in great surprise, "What happened yesterday?"
Seeing my confusion, Li Qian's face also showed a hint of bewilderment.
She pursed her lips, then suddenly pulled me aside and asked mysteriously, "Did you encounter something inexplicable when you came in, like sudden amnesia?"
I paused for a moment, looked at her, and nodded.
Seeing her serious expression, she asked again, "Did you do something you didn't believe you could do while you had amnesia?"
I was slightly surprised, but then I nodded.
Then she grinned, and asked the third question hesitantly: "So, did you climb over the palace wall under the moonlight?"
When she asked me that, I was stunned for a moment. After thinking about it carefully, I realized that I really did climb over the wall under the moon yesterday.
She raised her hand to her chest, looking distressed. "Oh dear! This is troublesome!" She seemed very troubled. After a long while, she looked at me with a serious expression. "There's a legend in the palace that if you climb over the palace wall under the moon, you're likely to lose your soul."
I was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled awkwardly, "Thank you, Princess."
I've never believed in ghosts or monsters, so I completely disregarded her explanation.
She didn't seem to be in a hurry. As I turned to leave, she mysteriously added, "If you want to find it again, just search it one more time!"
I waved my hand, not taking it to heart.
Anyway, no matter what happens, it won't stop me from running away from my wedding!
The Li family, it is unknown what they have experienced over the long river of time, but their descendants are all white-skinned and black-hearted.
If I were to marry into a place like that, I feel like I'd be completely controlled by Li Jin for the rest of my life.
This won't work.
With just over a month until the wedding, as long as I run fast enough, no one will know that Mr. Jin from the coroner's office is the Xiao family woman who has been announced to the world.
On a dark and windy night, when one is about to escape by climbing over a wall.
After months of countless attempts, I've become very adept at scaling this low wall; it's become second nature to me.
Tonight was no different; in less than the time it takes for half an incense stick to burn, I was already sitting on the eaves.
...and could only sit on the eaves.
"Taking a walk?" Li Jin stood outside the wall, arms crossed, looking up at me.
I gave an awkward smile and pointed to the sky: "Moon viewing."
He raised an eyebrow, nodded, and leaped up with his light-footed skill, sitting down beside me. He casually took the bundle I was carrying on my back and threw it into the courtyard behind me.
"Judging from the sound, it's quite a lot of money." He raised an eyebrow at me, his smile utterly "despicable."
"...Why does Shu'er want to run away?" Suddenly, he changed the subject and sat down next to me to ask, "After you get married, you will still be the chief coroner of the Six Doors, just with an additional hidden identity. It will not affect your current life in any way."
When he said that, I didn't know how to respond for a moment.
"Tell me what you're worried about, what you're afraid of, what you want, and I'll take care of it." He paused, a hint of disappointment in his eyes as he looked at my profile.
The more he asked me this question, the less I knew where to begin.
That's right, as the Crown Princess of the Great Wei, I can still be the chief coroner of the Six Doors.
However, Li Jin will not be the Crown Prince forever, and I will not be the Crown Princess forever.
When we are all confined to this deep palace, forced to face the responsibilities of the royal family and to uphold its dignity.
He will have his own harem.
But I may not have the chance to get out of this situation.
It's not that I don't want to be Mr. Jin from the Six Doors, or that I don't want to be Li Jin's wife. I just can't accept being tied to a man, losing my own value, and living a life where I can see the end from the beginning.
Youth is not eternal.
There will always be someone younger, more energetic, and more attuned to his heart than me.
I looked at him with a deep sense of melancholy, pondered for a long time, and took a deep breath: "If I am ultimately trapped in this deep palace and high walls, wouldn't it become a laughing stock for all time if women entered officialdom?"
He paused, clearly not expecting me to say such a thing.
"What we risked our lives for, was it all just a mirage?"
I smiled faintly, turned around, climbed down from the palace wall, and returned to my original room.
That night, I had some insomnia.
I only told him when it was too late, not because I expected him to notice, to help me solve the problem, or to make any promises.
It's simply because I'm far more selfish than I realize.
I don't want to leave him, but I have to.
If we can keep this tug-of-war going, the day I truly leave will come a little later...
That way I can stay by his side longer.
I know Li Jin well; we're so alike.
Personal feelings are insignificant compared to the grand scheme of things, such as family, country, and the world.
He is now the Crown Prince of Wei, and the situation he faces and the responsibilities he bears are no longer the same as those faced by Prince Jing in the past.
He carries the weight of the entire world on his shoulders; he cannot let his own selfish desires prevent him from weighing the pros and cons.
Being by his side would only bring disadvantages, not advantages.
I don't know when I fell asleep. When I opened my eyes again, I was faced with a handsome face, half asleep and half awake.
The surroundings were no longer the side room from last night, but Li Jin's bedroom again, with the familiar sandalwood scent and his familiar undergarments.
Absolutely amazing!
I got up, completely bewildered, and peered out of bed. I saw clothes scattered all over the floor, and my head started buzzing.
He raised his hand to rub his forehead and gasped for breath.
But then I saw Li Jin turn over and push me back onto the bed.
His head was wedged in my neck, and he murmured in a half-dreaming state, "You're not going anywhere." He said, "Even if the Emperor himself came, he wouldn't be able to take you away."
He slowly raised his head, his eyes, which could hold the stars and the moon, half-open, his forehead pressed against mine. After a long while, with a hint of resentment, he bit his lip and whispered, "You have to take responsibility for me."
I paused.
The man grabbed my hand, placed it on his chest, leaned down, and hugged me even tighter.
Just as my heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of my chest, I heard a soft snore beside me.
He fell asleep.
At that moment, I suddenly remembered what Shen Wen had said earlier.
He said that the emperor had pushed almost everything onto Li Jin, so much so that he was busy with state affairs and marriage at the same time, wishing he could split himself into two.
I'm just too tired.
I sighed and gently patted his back.
Completely oblivious to the slight upturn of his lips.
