Chapter 50 She Deserved It
As night fell in the capital, a strong and slightly chilly wind blew, causing Lin Ruxue's brocade dress to flutter wildly in the breeze.
On the street, under the gaze of the crowd, Fan Yin, once again called a "thief," smiled obsequiously and bowed very respectfully: "Miss, I have acquired another treasure these past few days. How about I present it to you?"
Her calm demeanor surprised Lin Ruxue, who leaned against the maid and looked at her crookedly.
Seeing Lin Ruxue's suspicion, Fan Yin lowered her voice and said, "It's the same quality as Miss's bracelet."
Finally, he added, "If you like it, Miss, please feel free to take it. I can even rent a carriage and personally take you home."
The look in Lin Ruxue's eyes is still etched in her heart.
It wasn't the joy of a long-awaited reunion, nor the deep affection of sisters.
Instead, it was a complex gaze, as if looking at a piece of trash—disdainful, questioning, yet wanting to extract the last bit of value from her.
After a long while, Lin Ruxue chuckled.
"Oh, so you admit you're a thief now!"
After saying that, Lin Ruxue glared at her and asked, "There's no such thing as a free lunch. You're trying to get close to me like this, it can't be as simple as offering a treasure, can it?"
Fan Yin was furious at her words, but she still wore a faint smile, making it impossible for Fan Yin to see any flaw in her demeanor.
“Miss is indeed exceptionally intelligent,” she said. “I was hoping that Miss could keep the fact that I am a petty thief a secret, so that I can offer all the treasures I steal to Miss in the future.”
Lin Ruxue raised an eyebrow, her heart stirred.
“Miss, as you know, some things are priceless, and I can’t possibly sell them looking like this.” Fan Yin deliberately narrowed her eyes slightly, raising her hand to brush a stray hair from her temple. “In a few days, I’ll be going to work for the Duke of Liang…”
Fan Yin knew that Lin Ruxue and the eldest daughter of the Duke of Liang had caused a major incident by falling into the lake because of Li Jin.
She smiled innocently, "But if Miss wishes me to go to the Liu family, I can stand up for Miss."
The third daughter of Liu, the Vice Minister of Revenue, got into a fight with Li Jin in public because the gift she gave to Li Jin looked exactly the same.
She deliberately said these things to lure Lin Ruxue, who harbored ill intentions and had nowhere to vent her anger, into her trap.
Sure enough, seeing how sincere she sounded, Lin Ruxue immediately adopted a sisterly demeanor: "Oh, I made an exception for you back then, not so you would do these things for me."
Before Fan Yin could speak again, she chuckled, grabbed her hand, and placed it in her own: "But I am very pleased that you are so grateful!"
In that instant, Fan Yin noticed the white jade bracelet on her wrist.
She stiffened slightly, but tried to maintain a smile, and chatted with her casually, talking about what other treasures she had and what their origins were.
She succeeded; she successfully lured the greedy and lustful Lin Ruxue to this restaurant.
“It’s right here, in this private room.” Fan Yin pursed her lips. “The manager wasn’t here at the time and didn’t know that I brought Lin Ruxue, who had just wrecked Jinhua Tower, here.”
“I told her I was going to get the treasure and asked her to wait for me here, and I put out a jar of the strongest wine for her.” She laughed. “When I came back in a quarter of an hour later, she was completely drunk. The maid beside her was calling her anxiously, trying to wake her up.”
"When I came back, she accused and questioned me, asking why I gave her such strong liquor. I seized the opportunity and told her to go downstairs quickly to the car dealership next door to catch a car, and I would take both of them home."
At this point, she chuckled softly: "Isn't Lin Ruxue the one who's greedy for money? If she didn't have any evil thoughts, why would I get her drunk in a place like this?"
"After that, her maid went to the carriage shop across the street and asked for a carriage." Fan Yin turned her face, looked out the window, and pointed to the side of the street to Li Jin: "I borrowed the carriage. There is a carriage shop two small intersections over here. I borrowed it from there."
Looking at the bustling street corner and the crowds coming and going, Fan Yin remained silent for a long time before speaking again: "I took advantage of the time she went out to borrow a car and tricked Lin Ruxue, who was looking for alcohol, into drinking a whole bottle of mercury."
At this point, she let out a long sigh of relief, as if a huge boulder that had been lodged in her chest had slowly been lifted to the ground.
There was a sense of relief and exhilaration.
"However, Lin Ruxue did not lose consciousness until the maid brought the carriage over. She was suffering from mercury poisoning and felt dizzy, so she asked me to help her downstairs."
She pursed her lips and sighed, "I don't want her to leave now. If she leaves now and dies in the Lin family, my bracelet might be buried with her in the deep soil. So I don't want her to leave, but it's already very late. If I stop her, it will only arouse suspicion."
“I just waited and dragged it out, walking very slowly. I delayed for a long time, and her symptoms of discomfort became more and more severe, but she did not faint until she was about to get into the carriage.”
The smoke from the incense burner rose slowly, filling the room with a faint sandalwood fragrance.
As she finished speaking, the woman in front of her raised her hand to support her forehead and leaned against the table in front of her.
With her eyes tightly closed, she struggled to recall the sins she had committed the night before.
I struggled to calm my already turbulent emotions.
She laughed self-deprecatingly, then poured herself another glass of wine and drank it one after another.
Li Jin wasn't in a hurry. He sat opposite her and watched her compose herself and slowly explain the most difficult parts of the story.
“I can’t let her go,” she said. “I want my bracelet back.”
“At that time, she said she was going to vomit, so I and her maid helped her walk to the ditch on the side.”
She took a deep breath, raised her hand, and rubbed her forehead hard.
“While she was vomiting, I picked up a large stone that was pressing down on the stone slab of the irrigation canal. I first knocked out her maid, and then, towards Lin Ruxue, who was already unable to straighten up, I smashed her head five or six times.”
Fan Yin bit her lip, unable to tell whether it was pain or resentment, the words seemed to be spat out from between her teeth: "I didn't stop until she fell to the ground and stopped moving, and I quickly took off the bracelet from her wrist."
After saying that, she looked up at Li Jin's serious face, raised her hand, and patted her chest: "I don't regret it, she deserves to die! She already had so much! Why did she still steal my things! Why did she have to frame me to get my things!? She deserved it!"
"Sanskrit chant!" Li Jin roared, his expression extremely solemn.
That gaze was as sharp as a knife, as if it had stabbed the chanting mantra in front of him until he was covered in blood.
"Whether she deserves to die is not for you to judge." Li Jin took a deep breath. "You so believe that I will return to uphold justice, so why won't you believe that I can also uphold justice for you? Why won't you believe that I can also give Lin Ruxue the punishment she deserves?"
The chanting paused, and he was stunned.
