Chapter 2
Jiang Yunu is a very resilient person.
Literally speaking, she has a positive attitude, a strong will to survive, and is quite capable of taking action and doing things. She is also a bit more optimistic than the average person, and is highly adaptable to many environmental conditions that would cause others to lose their minds.
Jiang Yunu’s life motto is: When you encounter a difficult problem, try to solve it first. What if you really solve it?
There is no "what if" and it's no big deal, it's all about experience.
Jiang Yunu spent half a day making sure that she had traveled through time, and then made sure that she still wanted to survive in the unfamiliar environment. She found two plastic bags and put them on her feet as shoes, so that at least she would no longer be a wild child running barefoot in an unfamiliar place. However, plastic bags were not very durable. Compared with the rocky road in the underground base with a very "simple" decoration, plastic bags were still too easy to wear out. Jiang Yunu just stepped on the bags and returned to the wall with the alloy cabinet. She wanted to take another look to see if there were any remaining supplies in this place that could be used, but her foot suddenly hurt.
Jiang Yunu looked down and found that he had stepped on a hard object scattered on the ground.
That's a hard square.
The plastic bag provided a slight defense for Jiang Yunu's feet, preventing the edge of the hard sheet from piercing her soles, but the plastic bag was also sacrificed and a large cut was made on it.
One of the shoes was scrapped before I even had a chance to wear it.
Jiang Yunu was mourning the loss of the plastic bag to him in less than fifteen minutes, and he bent down to pick up the hard square piece and found that it was a plastic board.
The outer shell of something was broken, and there were scattered plastic pieces around the alloy cabinet.
Jiang Yunu had passed by this set of cabinets against the wall before. He focused on observing whether there was anyone else in the base and did not carefully observe the ground. That was why he was ambushed next to the cabinets.
Plastic, at least, was a material Jiang Yunu recognized and could guarantee was harmless. She had just made a new discovery while exploring the base—the level of technology here might be higher than in her original world. On the other side of the base, facing the pit, Jiang Yunu saw some machinery she couldn't name. Their appearance and outer shells alone gave off a sense of high technology, but most of them had broken shells, revealing broken wiring within. They looked completely useless.
"Plastic bags can be used, what if plastic sheets can also be used?" Jiang Yunu said to himself.
She picked up all the plastic sheets scattered on the ground, found a discarded box lid, used the lid as a temporary mobile table, and piled all the collected plastic sheets on it.
When piling up the plastic sheets, Jiang Yunu felt like he was picking up trash.
But just pick up trash, they are all supplies, as long as you can survive!
After putting away the plastic sheet, Jiang Yunu continued to rummage through the cabinets.
She tried to get more survival supplies and found two bundles of waterproof tape in the first cabinet.
Wouldn't the plastic sheets she'd just collected come in handy? Jiang Yunu immediately returned to her makeshift desk with the waterproof tape. She placed the tape and plastic sheets together, then stood up and returned to the edge of the cabinet. She fumbled around the bottom of the seemingly empty cabinet until she finally found the tool she was looking for—a rusty knife.
Things that need to be cut, such as waterproof tape, are usually placed together with cutting tools. Jiang Yunu is very glad that people who have worked in this base before also have this habit.
Even a rusty knife helped a lot.
Jiang Yunu returned to the table, held the tape to his feet, measured it, confirmed the required length, and then cut the tape with a knife.
The rusty knife was a bit blunt and not very useful, but fortunately the tape itself was not difficult to cut, and Jiang Yunu quickly and carefully cut off a piece of it. She placed the cut tape flat on the table, then took out some plastic sheets with a certain hardness and began to carefully stick them on the tape.
Flatten it, compact it, stack another layer, compact it again, then cut another piece of tape and stick it on top of the plastic sheets, firmly fixing the plastic sheets between the two layers of tape.
Jiang Yunu made a pair of soles for himself using waterproof tape and hard plastic sheets.
The waterproof tape was tough and abrasion-resistant enough. If you wrapped it several times, even if the plastic sheet shattered underfoot, it would only break into the layers of tape, maintaining some support. Jiang Yunu also found some strapping tape in the cabinet where the tape was stored. It must have been used to tie up other goods, then tossed there as trash after being removed. But even this trash was a treasure for her. She wrapped the strapping tape around the soles of her shoes, securing them to her feet.
In this way, Jiang Yunu made himself a pair of "plastic sandals".
This pair of "sandals" is only slightly better than wearing a plastic bag directly. The design is also mainly without any shape. As long as it can be stepped on and is not easy to fall off, it is fine.
But after stepping a few steps on the ground with the pair of sandals she made herself, Jiang Yunu felt pretty good about herself. She thought the remaining strapping tape and plastic sheets were rare resources, so she carefully put them away for later use.
Jiang Yunu did not put away the rusty knife, she chose to carry it with her.
Jiang Yunu knew very well that if he really encountered danger, this knife would probably be of no use, but the feeling of having a weapon in hand was always different from having bare hands.
Jiang Yunu is always optimistic. She secretly thinks that if she is a game character, the rusty knife will be the first weapon she finds. Even if this simple initial weapon can only bring her the effect of "attack power +1" or "defense power +1", "+1" is "+1". It is always important for a novice to have a little bit of attribute gain.
Holding a knife and wearing "sandals", Jiang Yunu continued to search for supplies.
It was not until this time that Jiang Yunu accidentally moved her left shoulder, and she suddenly realized that she had not felt pain in her left shoulder for a long time.
Her left shoulder was clearly painful when she just woke up. She still remembered the pulling feeling in her left shoulder joint when she stretched with her eyes closed while lying in the round pit. However, at some point, her dislocated shoulder had healed silently on its own.
Jiang Yunu paused for a moment because of this discovery, and when he lowered his head, he could see the white hair hanging in front of him.
What am I now?
This question slipped into Jiang Yunu's mind.
The pit she had to climb out of while apologizing was not far away. When she turned around, she could see the children whose bodies were as pale as their hair.
It seemed as if I should have been one of them before. The only difference between me and those children was that Jiang Yunu's skin color was brighter now, and she was really lively and energetic, and she had consciousness and could feel pain and hunger... Wait, was she hungry?
Without time to continue pondering the philosophical question of "Who am I?", Jiang Yunu's attention was suddenly diverted to another matter -
She discovered she was hungry.
As soon as I realized that I was in an unfamiliar place, the surging adrenaline paralyzed my nerves and overwhelmed my body's physiological instincts.
Jiang Yunu had already roughly explored the base before, and ran around to make a pair of sandals for herself. Before exploring the base, she had also struggled to climb out of the round pit.
No clock facilities have been found in the base so far. Jiang Yunu doesn't know how long she has been awake, but she knows that her activity level must be quite high. She now has the body of a child, and children are one of the groups that need the most energy and are most likely to get hungry quickly.
Jiang Yunu felt the long-awaited hunger.
And once she realized she was hungry, she felt so hungry that her chest and back were sticking to each other. Her empty stomach and intestines started singing the "Empty City Strategy" like crazy, and every nerve connected to her stomach began clamoring for food.
Want to eat, want food, want to eat.
I'm so hungry.
How could she be so hungry?
Jiang Yunu was really hungry. She swallowed gently. Not only had she not eaten anything, but her mouth, which had not touched water for a long time, did not even secrete much saliva. Only thin saliva was swallowed, like drops of water dripping in a dry desert. It was useless except for making her feel more clearly that she was very hungry.
But at least Jiang Yunu was not so hungry that her hands and feet became weak and she felt shaky when walking. She found that even when she felt extremely hungry, her limbs were still steady and she was not yet weak from hunger.
It feels like a phone that has a battery level below 10% and issues a warning, but still works without lag.
Jiang Yunu was finding analogies for herself while she was hungry. She fought against the hunger and no longer stayed where she was. She quickened her pace and ran towards the remaining cabinets and boxes, trying to find some food for herself.
I hope there's still food on this base.
Jiang Yunu had already figured out that this base was likely used specifically for transferring or storing certain items, more like a temporary warehouse or transit station. There weren't many instruments and equipment here, essentially just the few she'd seen during her earlier explorations. The overall layout was simple, with only the set of alloy cabinets attached to the wall. The cabinet where she'd found the tape and knife was almost completely empty. When she fished for the knife from underneath, she noticed dust in the empty compartment, indicating they were rarely used, let alone filled.
There must be few people staying here, as most of the time people come and go.
And if Jiang Yunu's speculation is true, it means that it will be more difficult for her to find food.
Where no one stays for a long time, there is generally no long-term food storage.
Jiang Yunu did not give up. She knew the probability was extremely low, so she still carefully explored every cabinet, fumbled with every compartment, and opened every box scattered on the ground.
"It can't be that everyone who comes here to work is a 'special forces soldier'." Jiang Yunu said to himself.
Holding on to the hope that "maybe there will always be people who want to eat something while working, and who occasionally need energy replenishment when doing temporary work", Jiang Yunu did not give up any place that seemed to be able to store items.
Finally, she found two boxes in a box at the base of the wall opposite the alloy cabinet.
There were two boxes whose contents she couldn't tell from the packaging, but there was a conspicuous blue logo and a green logo on the packaging.
At this moment, Jiang Yunu was particularly grateful to fate, and was glad that in this strange place, at least the production signs and food safety signs seemed to be universal.
She quickly opened the package and was stunned when she saw a group of small bottles inside.
"What is this?" Jiang Yunu took out a small bottle and carefully identified the bottle.
The only lighting in the base comes from a wall lamp fixed to the stone wall, which should be a battery-powered wall lamp. It is the only facility in the base that seems to have no power outage.
Jiang Yunu held the small bottle under the light, turned the bottle, and finally saw a food safety logo on the bottom of the bottle.
This discovery made Jiang Yunu breathe a sigh of relief: "It is indeed edible."
As long as it’s edible.
As for what exactly this thing is and whether it has expired, these are not within Jiang Yunu's consideration for the time being.
Between continuing to wait for starvation to die and rashly eating unfamiliar food with the possibility of being poisoned, Jiang Yunu chose the latter without hesitation. She decided to take a gamble, as the latter had at least a 50% chance of her being safe and sound.
The cap of the small bottle was a little difficult to open, so the small knife that Jiang Yunu carried came in handy.
A thin, rusty blade pried open the bottle of unknown liquid for her. She drank the liquid in one gulp and exhaled after the emptiness and restlessness in her stomach subsided.
The bet was right.
There are no side effects so far, so it is likely safe to eat.
Jiang Yunu also moved the two boxes of liquid bottles to her own "material storage area" and placed them together with her plastic strapping tapes.
Her supply point was not far from the pit she had climbed out of. Jiang Yunu walked to the edge of the pit, holding the small bottle that she had drunk empty, and gently raised it towards the children in the pit.
"I'm grateful to everyone for carrying me to the top, which allowed me to climb up more easily," Jiang Yunu said. "I'm grateful to everyone for being alive today."
