Chapter 8
The sky cracked, and Jiang Yunu was about to crack.
An unknown powerful energy broke through the barrier covering the isolated island, violently and unstoppably.
The sky shattered, but Jiang Yunu's first reaction was not to think that this was her chance to escape from the island, but rather -
"boom!!"
The crash was earth-shaking.
And this time it no longer sounded like thunder striking the sky, but a solid thunderbolt that struck somewhere nearby.
Jiang Yunu quickly closed her eyes when the dazzling white light swept over her. Based on her experience of crawling around on the isolated island these days and climbing up the barren mountain in the dark at night, she closed her eyes and rolled several times on the sand, rolling her small body to the back of the nearest mountain, using the rocks of the barren mountain as a shelter, and felt the scorching light finally being reduced when it swept in front of the mountain.
But the mountain was clearly bare rock, and the rock layers swept by the white light actually made a terrifying "sizzling" sound.
It was a sound like throwing a stone into boiling water, and the rock layers seemed to be burning.
It was obvious that some powerful energy had burst into the sky of the deserted island.
When everything was shaking, Jiang Yunu rolled on the sand, which was difficult to run on. She rolled faster than she ran.
Just now, a faint ray of light swept across the end of Jiang Yunu's hair that was blown up by the strong wind, and brushed her hair very lightly. She hid behind the rocks and touched the end of her hair, feeling a handful of powder. She brought her fingers back to her eyes and saw that on the child's slender white fingertips were scattered fragments of human hair carbonized by high temperature.
Just a little bit of light burned Jiang Yunu's hair.
Jiang Yunu quickly rubbed off all the carbonized parts of his hair, and glanced at a strand of hair that had not yet been burned off by the high temperature, and found that his white hair had been burned into a charred black.
“There is pain that stains the black.”
In such a dangerous, unknown and cruel environment, Jiang Yunu still had the mind to comment on himself.
She quickly let go of the tuft of black hair, which was now very rare on her head, and climbed up the rocks of the barren mountain again, carefully avoiding the most glaring light sources, and cast her eyes towards the area outside the mountain.
It’s okay if you don’t watch it, but once you do, it’s terrible.
Another "meteor" passed directly through the sky that had been blown apart by its predecessors, and like a prank of throwing a ball into a broken glass window, it rushed towards the island unhindered!
Jiang Yunu briefly looked directly at the light of the "meteor" before it hit the ground. Although the distance from the sky to the ground was quite far, she was dazzled. Fortunately, her retina seemed to be still strong. She did not go blind from looking directly at it, but her eyes were briefly completely white.
The completely white Jiang Yunu in front of him rolled on the sand again. Relying on her intuition of direction, she rolled quickly away from the mountain where she was originally hiding.
Because of the risk of retinal burns she had just taken, she saw clearly that the landing trajectory of this "meteor" was heading straight for the barren mountains.
This seemed like a "meteor" that was specifically launched at the barren mountain. Jiang Yunu was covered in sand. Not long ago, she was hugging Twenty-Two in the underground base and told her "kind" that she was willing to be the left and right protectors together with him. She had reserved a death seat for herself below the base and planned her death in an orderly manner.
But when the threat of death really came and unknown energy tore open the sky of the isolated island, Jiang Yunu found that he still wanted to live.
She couldn't see anything in front of her, couldn't tell if she was rolling into another area of scorching white light, and couldn't tell how far away the "meteor" that hit the barren mountain was from landing. When Jiang Yunu's mind suddenly wandered for a moment, her thoughts soared high and drifted back to the base she had rushed out of without looking back.
When she looked back for the last time, half of Twenty-Two's body was still exposed on the surface of the sand pit, and the "stele" she had roughly carved was lying next to the grave in the sand pit, and she had not had time to insert it into the pit.
"Will I still have a chance to go back and properly tidy up this grave?"
Jiang Yunu was thinking in his heart, and it seemed as if he really opened his mouth to speak.
She didn't hear her own voice.
Only a voice in her heart told her: It's a pity, you probably don't have a chance.
"boom--"
The huge roar of the collision set off a huge sound wave, which was entangled with the strong wind, like a dry land tornado.
But when this tsunami-like sound reached Jiang Yunu's eardrums, she felt as if her ears were filled with water. Everything she heard was heavy and muffled, and the sound was not clear. It seemed that she only heard the tail end of the strong wind and sound waves passing by.
But she could still clearly feel the world shaking.
Then Jiang Yunu finally reacted. The "meteor" hit the mountain at a speed faster than she expected. The barren mountain that had briefly protected her and allowed her to climb up to watch the moon at night exploded. She suffered the impact of the explosion at a not-too-far distance. Her body surprisingly withstood the energy radiation of the explosion. She did not immediately turn into a "little carbon man" when she felt the high temperature sweeping across her skin. But at the same time, the shock wave of the explosion still blew her away, causing her to fly into the air and inevitably hit the ground in a certain direction.
The shock wave from the explosion also pierced Jiang Yunu's eardrum. After a sharp pain, her nerves were temporarily numb, so now everything she heard seemed to be through a layer. Her eardrum was temporarily damaged, and she couldn't hear clearly.
Fortunately, except for the barren mountain area, the rest of the island is all sand, and outside is the man-made sea.
Jiang Yunu's body fell to the sand and rolled with the shock wave in the still ongoing energy aftershocks.
The eardrum was temporarily damaged, but the retina of the eye seemed to have adapted to the high-energy light. Jiang Yunu felt that all her internal organs were vibrating. The white light that had been blocking her eyes for a while dissipated, making her struggle. In this world-destroying change, she turned her head to look at the barren mountain - which was also the direction of the original base.
There are no barren mountains.
There is no base anymore.
The desolate mountain originally stood so conspicuously and lonely in the center of the isolated island. It was the only mountain on the island, protecting the only underground base dug by humans at the foot of the mountain.
Now, the place where the mountain should have existed seems to have been flattened by something, and the barren mountain has turned into scattered fallen rocks.
The original entrance and exit of the base collapsed completely and became one with the sandy ground.
The entire mountain, the base at the foot of the mountain, and the grave in the base that Jiang Yunu had failed to take good care of, and the 22 white-haired children who had accompanied her through the lifespan of 22 bottles of nutrient solution... they were all blown flat together.
If there is a grave, then the entire broken island is the grave of all objects on the island - both living and dead.
Jiang Yunu supported herself with her arms and tried to get up from the sand, but her skin and flesh were screaming in pain. Only then did she remember to look down at herself.
First of all, she hasn't turned into a charred little charcoal figure yet, which seems to be worth celebrating.
Secondly, Jiang Yunu understood the source of her pain—a lot of gravel fragments had pierced her arms and legs.
When the mountain was blown open, the shattered rocks blew out a handful of irregular small stone pieces, some of which had sharp edges. With the strong wind, they turned into hidden weapons like flowers scattered by the sky, and penetrated deeply into the skin and flesh of Jiang Yunu's thin body.
Jiang Yunu only glanced at them and was not in a hurry to pull them out, because pulling them out might expose a large area of wound. She really didn't have the conditions to bandage herself at the moment, so leaving the stone pieces stuck in the wound actually served as an alternative way to stop bleeding. Secondly, she felt pain, but the pain could not interfere with her actions for too long.
She got up from the ground in pain.
There was a faint ominous light flickering on the horizon, and this unknown force seemed to want to destroy the entire island.
Jiang Yunu was like a shrimp that could be easily swallowed up by the waves of energy. She was also like a grain of sand on the beach of this isolated island, which could be swept away by any strong wind and blown in any direction she could not resist.
So annoying.
When people are in desperate situations, some will panic, some will despair, and some will become quiet.
Jiang Yunu was angry.
Why.
Why must she be so weak, so helpless, trapped or broken, all due to the intervention of external forces, and she herself has no way to interfere with her own destiny?
Jiang Yunu's body was shaking. She stood stubbornly amidst the earth shaking sound that she could not clearly hear. Her retina was no longer afraid of the burning light, allowing her to look up and watch another "meteor" pass through the barrier.
The "meteor" fell towards the deserted island with a dazzling and destructive momentum.
Jiang Yunu gave Meteor a middle finger.
Then she turned around and threw her body, which was neither strong nor tall, covered with gravel and sand, into the "sea water".
Thanks to the strong wind just now, Jiang Yunu landed very close to the coastline.
Jiang Yunu dived into the water and swam towards the depths.
The strong energy radiated by the "meteor" when it falls to the ground will sweep across the isolated island again. The deep water area is the only place left that can weaken the energy, but if Jiang Yunu keeps swimming in the water, she will sooner or later run out of energy and drown in this "sea water" that only tastes salty.
But Jiang Yunu didn't think it mattered.
"I will die on the road fighting against fate until the last moment." Jiang Yunu whispered to herself, her voice only audible as the waves splashed against her ears as she cut through the water.
Maybe it would look like a death throes, maybe her anger would look like impotent rage.
But, never mind.
People can also die in anger and resistance.
Jiang Yunu chose to die by "never giving up until the last moment". She thought carefully about her choice, and while trying to cut through the water in front of her with her gradually heavy arms, her mood actually became relaxed again.
She felt like a warrior.
She didn't know how long she had been swimming in the "sea water". Water had slightly entered Jiang Yunu's ear canal, and her eardrum had been hit before, so her hearing had become even less clear. She couldn't perceive the situation of the isolated island behind her. She didn't know whether the "meteor" had hit the ground of the isolated island, and she had no time to look back.
A lot of physical strength was lost, the injured body suffered from mild hypothermia in the water, and the salt water soaked the wound and caused stinging pain.
However, Jiang Yunu was still swimming forward.
Swim, swim to the end of her life as far as she can go.
Jiang Yunu kept moving forward, until her arms were like water-soaked sandbags, unable to paddle again, until her legs were as heavy as lead, unable to step on the water anymore, and began to drag her down.
Jiang Yunu relaxed her body at the last moment before she felt her strength was exhausted. With the help of the buoyancy of the water, she did not sink completely immediately, but she no longer had the strength to move forward, so she closed her eyes.
The sea water without the smell of the ocean flooded over the chin, mouth, and nose in turn.
Then to the eyes and forehead.
Jiang Yunu felt it quietly. Her small body floated on the water, and her white hair floated on the water, like a white flower that briefly bloomed on the vast water surface under the night sky.
But soon, the flower disappeared.
When Jiang Yunu completely sank into the dark water, a shadow flickered faintly in the air above the water surface, which was no longer within her reach.
The shadow was dim in the air, like a ghost quietly descending upon the waters, or like a mirage.
It is a triangular cube.
The shadowy triangular cube slowly moved downwards and also sank into the dark waters.
It gently intercepted the white flowers that continued to sink.
