Chapter 41 You're Too Noisy
After boiling the water, Long Buxi poured the prepared medicine into a large bucket, added some cold water, and then carried the water to the bathroom on the right side of the second-floor living room, indicating to Cheng Ying that she should take a bath.
Cheng Ying returned to the third floor, took the work clothes that Ya Lin had washed for her, went down to the second floor, asked Da Huang to guard the door, closed the door, and began to take a shower.
It wasn't that she was afraid Long Buxi would peep at her while she was bathing, but rather that she subconsciously distrusted him. Although he appeared gentle and harmless, she always felt that he wasn't what he seemed on the surface, and that it was better to keep some things to herself.
Long Buxi watched as she called Da Huang to the toilet door. Da Huang obediently squatted at the door, like a dog Buddha, sticking out its tongue, squinting its eyes, and looking carefree and smiling. She couldn't help but shake her head with amusement, then turned and went outside to dry the medicinal herbs he had picked.
In the toilet, Cheng Ying took off her clothes and carefully washed herself with the warm, dark green medicine in the bucket. Then she looked down at her hands, feet, and other parts of her body to see if there were any injuries.
The wooden toilet has a window facing north, through which sunlight streams in, making the interior bright.
Cheng Ying stood in the middle of the sunlit toilet and carefully examined her body. Apart from some bruises and traces of medicine that were difficult to wash off her joints, and a faint pain in a part of her back that she couldn't see, there were no obvious injuries on her body.
However, she found small bite marks on her joints, which were almost healed. She suspected that she had been bitten by the venomous snakes and spiders she had seen when she fell down the mountain a week ago.
She was in pain all over her body at the time, and before she fainted, she didn't know whether those poisonous creatures had bitten her or not.
It now appears that it was bitten.
Although she felt fine when she woke up today, the thought of being bitten by those poisonous creatures, perhaps Gu worms, made her very uneasy.
She needed to find an opportunity to properly ask Long Buxi about the bite marks on her body caused by poisonous creatures.
After taking a shower, Cheng Ying felt refreshed. She came out of the bathroom and saw Long Buxi drying medicinal herbs in the corridor outside the living room, while Da Huang was dozing at the door.
She had asked Long Buxi about the colorful poisons before, and Long Buxi had flatly denied it. Now that she was asking him about the bite marks on her body, he might not answer.
Cheng Ying thought for a moment and decided not to ask about the bite marks on her body for the time being. She would ask after she got to know Long Buxi better and Long Buxi was less wary of her.
When Long Buxi returned from the corridor, Cheng Ying asked very politely, "Do you have any vases at home? If so, could you give me one? I want to put the irises I picked earlier in a vase."
She had just finished showering, her face flushed from the steam, her short, black hair casually draped around her ears, dripping with water. Wearing a green postman's uniform, she looked like a female soldier, exceptionally heroic, yet stunningly beautiful.
The two were close together, and Long Buxi could smell the strong medicinal scent on her body, mixed with her own faint, elegant orchid fragrance.
The two scents blended together and smelled wonderful, making him twitch his nose and inhale her fragrance.
Long Buxi glanced at Cheng Ying and walked towards a cabinet in the living room where dishes were kept. "We don't have vases, but would bowls be okay?"
He took out a small, round, concave bowl that resembled a medicine mortar from the cabinet and handed it to Cheng Ying. "See if you can use it. If not, I'll go cut a bamboo and make you a bamboo vase."
Cheng Ying reached out and took the bowl, looked at it, and said, "There's no need to go through all that trouble to cut bamboo; this bowl is enough."
The bowl was only eight centimeters in diameter and about ten centimeters high. It was small and deep, just enough to hold two irises.
Cheng Ying picked up two iris flowers she had picked from the dining table, put them in the deep bowl, and poured in a little water.
The irises, which had wilted a little over an hour after being picked, became as fresh and vibrant as before after absorbing water.
Two blue irises are placed in a deep white bowl, creating a unique and elegant beauty.
Cheng Ying was very pleased with what she saw, thanked Long Buxi, and took the bowl upstairs.
She climbed up to the third floor, returned to her room, placed the 'vase' filled with flowers on her bedside table, and looked at it for a while.
She opened the small medicine jar that Long Buxi had given her, enduring the strange smell emanating from it, and applied the dark green ointment to her joints and back. She then applied it to Dahuang's body before putting down the jar and running her hands through her hair to dry it as quickly as possible.
Perhaps because she had eaten too much lunch and was feeling nauseous from the carbohydrates, Cheng Ying sat on the bed for a while. She heard the wind outside the window making the bells hanging on the curtains at both ends of the bed jingle, which had a hypnotic effect. She began to feel drowsy and kept yawning. Once her hair was completely dry, she simply lay down and fell asleep.
The bed she slept on had new bedding; she wondered if Long Buxi had specially brought it, as the bedding was very soft.
The bed was covered with a bamboo mat, which was cool to the touch. Pucang Village was located in a valley at the foot of a mountain, so the temperature was always cool. There was no need to turn on the air conditioner or fan. At night, the temperature would drop by ten degrees or so, and you would have to cover yourself with a blanket.
A cool breeze was blowing in the room. Cheng Ying lay on the bamboo mat, her stomach covered with a soft quilt, and quickly fell asleep.
Like her, Dahuang kept dozing off. When she fell asleep, it would curl up under her bed and fall asleep as well.
I don't know how much time passed, but suddenly a sharp knife pried open the bolt of the closed door from the outside, and the door creaked open as it was gently pushed open.
Cheng Ying turned over without noticing anything, her thin right arm hanging down by the bedside, revealing the ointment applied to her arm.
The moment Da Huang heard the sound, it pricked up its ears alertly, stood up, and barked at the door.
Its sound was very loud in the quiet room.
Cheng Ying, who is usually very alert, for some reason, couldn't hear Da Huang's barking at all and didn't react at all.
When Da Huang saw that she didn't respond, it barked twice in frustration, but she was still fast asleep.
Just then, Long Buxi walked in from the door and said to Da Huang, "Shh—be quiet, don't wake your owner."
When Dahuang saw it was him, it stopped barking. However, unlike other animals, it didn't wag its tail at people it recognized.
Its tail was drooping, and its shiny black eyes were fixed on Long Buxi's every move. Its mouth was slightly baring its teeth, which is typical of a dog's wary and ready-to-attack reaction when facing dangerous people or things.
Like Cheng Ying, Da Huang felt that Long Bu Xi was dangerous from the first time he met him, and subconsciously did not want to have much contact with him.
Even though Da Huang first met Long Bu Xi four years ago when he came to Pu Cang Village with Cheng Jiantong to deliver mail, and they had met quite a few times in those four years, Da Huang was still afraid of Long Bu Xi.
Because Long Buxi always exuded a bloody and chilling aura, as well as the stench of death, which was more terrifying than the wild beasts in the mountains, it would usually avoid him.
Although Dahuang only recognizes Cheng Jian as its master, it also knows that Cheng Ying is its little master. When its master is not around, it has to protect its little master in its master's place.
Even though Long Buxi fed it a lot of meat and bones and didn't seem to intend to harm it, it would fight back without hesitation if Long Buxi hurt its owner.
"I've come to see your master to make sure she's applied the medicine properly. I won't do anything bad to her, so you don't need to bare your teeth at me." Long Buxi seemed to think that Dahuang could understand him. After saying this, he walked to the bedside and looked down at Cheng Ying.
Dahuang did not lower its guard against him because of his words. On the contrary, it bared more and more teeth and growled lowly, warning him to leave his little master.
Its roar grew louder and louder, but Long Buxi showed no sign of leaving and even reached out to grab Cheng Ying's arm.
"You're too noisy." Long Buxi frowned and waved her hand. "I told you to let your master rest properly."
As soon as he finished speaking, Big Yellow suddenly let out a low howl of pain, and then the whole dog collapsed to the ground, twitching silently.
Long Buxi didn't even glance at it. He lifted Cheng Ying's arm that was hanging down by the bedside and examined it carefully. He then looked at her other arm and the joints of her two legs. He noticed that the ointment applied to them had turned into a dried dark green. He then looked at the small medicine jar on the bedside table. All the ointment inside had been used up. Obviously, Cheng Ying had also applied the ointment to her body and back.
"She's quite obedient." Long Buxi muttered to himself, standing by the bed, looking at Cheng Ying's beautiful face with its delicate features and heroic air for a while, before turning around and placing the blue iris he had picked into the 'vase' on Cheng Ying's bedside table.
Then, he took one of the two irises that Cheng Ying had placed inside, slowly walked out of the room, and closed the door.
Cheng Ying slept straight through until morning.
When she woke up, it was almost dawn, and the hands on her watch showed it was around six in the morning.
She slept from around 1 p.m. until dawn the next day, which was the longest she had ever slept since joining the army.
She used to wake up after sleeping for a maximum of nine hours, so why did she sleep for so long this time without waking up?
Cheng Ying was very confused and tried to get up, but because she was still dizzy from sleeping, she felt dizzy as soon as she got up and almost fainted again.
She calmed herself down for a while before she could suppress the dizziness. Her throat felt terribly dry, and she wanted to drink water, but she was also very hungry.
She struggled to get out of bed and found Da Huang lying on its back under her bed, making soft snoring sounds, looking like it was fast asleep.
Did Dahuang sleep with her until now?
While she was asleep, she didn't hear Da Huang bark, nor did she feel Da Huang licking her hands or biting her legs. It seemed that she was very safe last night, which is why it was sleeping so soundly.
Cheng Ying chuckled and nudged Da Huang, "Da Huang, wake up! It's dawn. Don't sleep anymore. Let's go downstairs and get some food and drinks."
Big Yellow was woken up by her push. Its little brain immediately remembered what happened last night. Its body trembled, and it quickly got up from the ground, staring wide-eyed in horror as it looked around.
Not seeing Long Buxi, it barked in confusion.
After discovering it could make sounds, it became even more confused. It clearly remembered that yesterday, a man reeking of medicine had barged into its young master's room. Why was he gone now? And its young master didn't seem to be acting any strangely... It was really odd...
