Chapter 47 The First Light of Hope

Lin Jinghan laughed at herself, knowing that she was not in the same position as the man opposite her and had to do things within her means. As for divorce, she could not bring it up for the time being.

"The second thing, I haven't thought about it yet. When I think about it, I'll find you to fulfill it."

"Yeah." Sikong Zhan responded casually, then lowered his head and began to review official documents.

Considering that she was still useful, he was already tolerant enough towards this woman. If it were someone else here, he would have slapped them away.

Although she failed to get rid of this identity, she did gain a certain degree of freedom for herself and her family. Lin Jinghan did not stay any longer, nor did she say goodbye to Sikong Zhan, and left directly.

After Lin Jinghan left, peace finally returned to the tent.

Looking at the official documents in front of him, Sikong Zhan felt inexplicably annoyed. He had not reviewed a single word since Lin Jinghan came in. When he thought of how dusty Lin Jinghan was just now, and could smell the dust on her from a long distance away, he didn't even have the mood to pick up the brush. He called someone to clean up the tent thoroughly before he was in the mood to start reviewing the documents again.

Women are such trouble. She's so dirty and yet she dares to come see him. It seems like it's time to set some rules for her.

After walking out of the tent, Lin Jinghan forced a smile and walked back to her tent slowly: she had rushed to Sikong Zhan's tent before, and it seemed that everyone in the army had an idea. As long as she could not get rid of the identity of the princess, she would try her best to maintain the dignity of the Princess of Jingnan.

Shiqin had already prepared dinner and hot water. She first took a comfortable bath and ate some food. She hadn't slept for two days and one night, and was so sleepy that she fell asleep immediately.

That night, she slept uneasily. Sometimes she dreamed that Lin Lixuan was frightened and hugged her and cried, and sometimes she dreamed that Sikong Zhan threatened and bribed her...

Finally, she woke up with her own screams.

"Princess, what's wrong with you?" Shiqin had been guarding outside Lin Jinghan's tent. When she heard the voice, she immediately ran in.

Realizing that everything just now was just a dream, Lin Jinghan breathed a sigh of relief. She glanced outside and found that it was still dark. She asked:

"I'm fine, just had a nightmare. What time is it?"

"Princess, it's the yin hour now. There's still some time until dawn. You can sleep a little longer."

"No, I don't want to sleep anymore. Come with me for a walk." It is the most difficult to fall asleep after waking up in the middle of the night. Lin Jinghan wrapped herself in a cloak and walked out of the tent.

A cool breeze blew, and the fear in her dream finally dissipated. She looked up at the moonlit sky, which was sparse and bright, indicating that tomorrow would be a sunny day. Her mood improved a lot, and she murmured, "I want to go to the top of the mountain to watch the sunrise."

Without waiting for Shiqin to react, she had already taken the lead and walked towards the top of the mountain.

She was very fast. When she reached the top of the mountain, it was just getting light. Soon, the first rays of dawn rose in the east.

The sun just appeared and then set again, rising and falling like this several times, before finally jumping out all of a sudden. From then on, it shone brightly until night fell, and then it would go back to accumulate energy for a new beginning tomorrow.

"It's so beautiful! This is my first time watching the sunrise on the top of a mountain." Shi Qin exclaimed.

"Yes, it's beautiful. Everything will be fine." Lin Jinghan no longer had the gloomy look on her face and smiled.

At that moment, the rising sun seemed to have lost its color.

She did not return to the camp directly, but took Shiqin to hunt a lot of prey and returned with a full load.

She saw someone guarding outside her tent from a distance. When she got closer, she found out it was Wu Si.

"Your subordinate greets the princess." Wu Si, leaning on a cane, bowed deeply to Lin Jinghan with difficulty and respect.

"Please stand up." Lin Jinghan helped Wu Sixu up, "Are you waiting for me?"

Wu Si did not stand up, but looked up at Lin Jinghan firmly, "Wu Si's life was saved by the princess. From now on, I am willing to follow the princess and protect her until my death. Please accept me!"

"Get up first, your injury hasn't healed yet." Lin Jinghan gestured to Shiqin to help Wu Si up, and said seriously:

"You are the prince's soldier. Although I am the princess, I have no right to accept you. You only need to be loyal to the prince, and that will be my repayment."

"Yesterday, the prince sent me and several of my brothers to serve as guards for the princess." Wu Si looked at Lin Jinghan expectantly.

Although the prince has ordered them to follow Lin Jinghan, he still hopes that the princess can truly accept him and his brother to serve her.

"Oh?" What was Sikong Zhan up to? After thinking for a while, Lin Jinghan couldn't figure it out. She thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to accept a few people, especially since they were the Wu brothers who had received her kindness, so she nodded.

"Wu Si, remember, my people only need to work for me wholeheartedly. If anyone dares to pretend to obey me but actually disobey me, or does something behind my back under the guise of doing good for me, I will not forgive them easily."

Hearing that the princess had agreed to let him be her bodyguard, Wu Si was overjoyed and knelt down again to pay his respects. "I will obey the princess's orders!"

Lin Jinghan nodded in satisfaction, looked around, and asked, "Where are your brothers?"

"It is not convenient for the three brothers to come to see the princess now. They will come to report to the princess in a few days." Wu Si said with his head down.

Last night, before going to bed, Sikong Zhan called Tang Xun and said that he wanted to find some guards for the princess.

After Tang Xun told Sikong Zhan about how Lin Jinghan treated Wu Si that day, Sikong Zhan remembered that the three Wu brothers had disobeyed him that day. Thinking that those three dared to disobey him for Lin Jinghan, they were naturally the most suitable candidates, so he decided on the four Wu brothers.

However, the three brothers of the Wu family were punished. That night, they were beaten with fifty military sticks. Now they are lying in the tent to recuperate, so naturally they cannot come to see Lin Jinghan.

However, when Wu Si knew that the princess had returned, he could not wait any longer. After settling his three brothers, he came to Lin Jinghan's tent alone and waited at the door.

"Is that so?" Lin Jinghan did not ask any further questions, but pointed at the wild food in Shiqin's hand:

"I just happen to be making breakfast. If you can hold on, come and help me."

The three did not go to the kitchen, but chose an open space not far behind the camp and started a fire.

Wu Si sat on a stool, handling the game very skillfully, and it was obvious that he was a veteran.

"That's pretty impressive." Lin Jinghan took the processed rabbit from Wu Si's hand and praised.

"Your Highness, you are too kind. Men in the army sometimes have to rely on wild game to survive, and most of them can handle these things."

"That's great. I'll teach you my barbecue skills. From now on, when we go out, you'll be responsible for these things." Lin Jinghan said casually.

"Yes, sir!" Wu Si answered seriously: Princess, this means that you will take him with you when you go out in the future and are willing to teach him skills. He is very happy.
