Chapter 25 This marriage is a transaction
Shang Ruyi was standing in the center of the room when she heard footsteps behind her, slowly approaching her step by step.
She suddenly felt her heart start pounding.
The footsteps grew closer, and she could even feel a dangerous yet alluring aura emanating from behind her, but she had no desire to run away. She simply stood there quietly, motionless.
Until Yuwen Ye walked up to her.
The tall figure stood before her, casting a deep shadow that enveloped her completely, just like when they first met. She felt him looking down at her, and even though Shang Ruyi had covered her face with her fan, she couldn't help but blush.
At that moment, he reached out and placed his hand on the back of her hand.
"...!"
At this moment, Shang Ruyi's heart was beating so fast it didn't even feel like her own.
From the initial amazement at seeing this handsome young man, to the emotion of him single-handedly rescuing me from bandits like a divine warrior, to the joy of seeing the poem urging me to get married, the journey, though only a day or two had passed, felt like countless streams flowing in, gradually converging into a tide, surging in my heart.
Shang Ruyi suddenly felt that this marriage might not have to be a decision made out of necessity.
Maybe--
Perhaps she could be more genuine and more attentive.
Thinking this, she raised her head from behind the fan, her bright eyes looking at Yuwen Ye.
"Actually, I—"
"I have something to tell you."
The two spoke at the same time, both of them pausing for a moment before Shang Ruyi immediately said, "You go first."
Yuwen Ye glanced at her, then pressed down slightly on the back of her hand: "Aren't you tired of holding this fan?"
Shang Ruyi blushed slightly: "Propriety must not be disregarded."
Yuwen Ye said, "What I mean is, knowing that this marriage is just a formality, aren't you tired of holding on?"
"...!"
Shang Ruyi's heart suddenly stopped beating.
She spoke, her voice a little hoarse, "You mean—"
Yuwen Ye looked at her calmly with indifferent eyes and said, "Since we both know the significance of this marriage, some unnecessary things can be omitted."
These words were like a bucket of cold water poured over my head.
The warmth in her chest instantly turned cold.
Shang Ruyi slowly lowered her hands, looking at Yuwen Ye's cold face, speechless for a moment, while Yuwen Ye calmly continued, "I know you have something to ask for."
"..."
“I can also tell that you won’t tell anyone what you want.”
"..."
"But none of that matters. What matters is that although this marriage is not what you or I wanted, it is clear that we both need it. So from today onwards, we can act as a couple in front of everyone, and in return, you can get what you want."
Shang Ruyi opened her mouth, hesitated several times, and finally managed to squeeze out her voice: "You mean, this marriage is—a transaction."
"good."
"This is what you've always planned."
Yuwen Ye raised an eyebrow slightly: "Otherwise what?"
His expression was so calm that Shang Ruyi's surprise at this moment seemed somewhat ridiculous.
Yes, his conversation with himself when he left the Shen residence had actually made everything clear between them. Obviously, he had already made his plans from that time on.
After an unknown amount of time, Shang Ruyi finally spoke, instinctively maintaining her composure: "Okay."
"..."
"That's fine too."
There's nothing wrong with cold, impersonal transactions.
At least, compared to getting emotionally involved, which might lead to feelings of attraction or heartbreak, a simple transaction won't cause any trouble.
Seeing Shang Ruyi's calm, almost numb expression, Yuwen Ye felt relieved. He was right; this was not a woman who couldn't handle the slightest setback and would make a fuss or cry over every little thing.
She was so calm that it even surprised him.
At this moment, Shang Ruyi looked up into his eyes and asked, "And you?"
"What?"
