Chapter 51 Kill Me

"My name is Yuanjia." After hearing that Yuanhai was indeed gone, the man was silent for a moment, then spoke again, "I have been imprisoned here for three hundred years."

Hearing this fairytale-like opening, Yang Jia had a bad feeling. Wasn't this the devil who had been trapped in a magic bottle for hundreds of years, making wishes but no one let him out, and then turned evil?

So she gestured, putting everyone on alert so they wouldn't be completely defenseless if the boss was about to take action.

Yuan Jia noticed her action but acted as if it were nothing. "After being imprisoned here, I swore that if anyone could meet my three conditions, I would leave everything I have to him."

Fortunately, the system is not so unreliable that it simply copies the devil's story.

"What are the conditions?" Yang Jia asked.

"First, eliminate the traitor Yuan Hai," Yuan Jia said. "You're lucky. This has already been accomplished."

"The second thing is to awaken the sleeping phoenix and remove the restraining force here." Yuan Jia's gaze fell on Yang Jia, "You also did it."

"The third thing..." Yuan Jia said as he stood up and looked at them from afar. A huge aura suddenly erupted from him. "Kill me. Then, you can inherit everything I have."

Sure enough, Yang Jia thought to himself, the boss is not a boy who brings wealth. After all the talk, they still have to fight in the end.

"Let me try." As the fight was about to begin, especially since Yuan Jia looked quite formidable, Xia Hanhai immediately stepped forward. Without waiting for Yang Jia's response, he charged forward. However, once the fight began, everyone quickly discovered that his attacks were ineffective against Yuan Jia; no matter how hard he hit him, he remained motionless.

Xia Hanhai quickly retreated, "What's going on? I can't hit him, and even if I do, it seems to be ineffective."

Yang Jia frowned slightly, quickly forming a hypothesis. This Yuan Jia himself said he'd been imprisoned here for three hundred years. This meant he could no longer be called a "human," given that human lifespans weren't that long. Could his immunity to attack also be related to this?

She shared her speculation, and before her teammates could say anything, Yuan Jia smiled sinisterly. "What a clever girl. Yes, my existence is very special. In this world, only you can kill me." His gaze shifted to the sword in Li Bai's hand. "With this sword, which symbolizes the city lord's supreme power and glory, you can kill me."

He was so proactive in revealing the method, which actually made people suspicious. Yang Jia looked at him warily and asked, "Why me?"

"It seems the inheritance has been cut off for a long time, and you know nothing." Yuan Jia laughed, "You must kill the previous city lord to gain recognition and become the new master of this city. And only the successor can truly kill me."

Yang Jia frowned, "Do you want to die?"

She couldn't understand this choice at all, because when she faced the threat of death, she had actually unleashed tremendous potential and was struggling to survive. So she couldn't understand Yuan Jia's choice. He seemed... to be looking forward to death.

"No, I don't want to die." Yuan Jia replied, "I just lived too long..." So long that he had forgotten the meaning of living like this, so he might as well die.

But Yang Jia was destined not to understand this idea. She hesitated for a moment and turned to look at her teammates.

No one spoke. Li Bai took the initiative to hand over the sword, and she looked at Yang Jia with a hint of worry.

Yang Jia looked at her for a moment, reached out to take the sword, held it in his hand, and walked towards Yuan Jia.

Yuan Jia sat on the platform, seemingly defenseless, even with a hint of a smile on his face. Yang Jia noticed that he was surprisingly good-looking and didn't look very old. He bore no resemblance to the boss named Yuan Hai outside the city who had apparently undergone a transformation.

Yang Jia climbed up the platform, walked in front of him and raised his sword.

If the last murder was just an accident, and Yang Jia only realized it after the killing, and was more afraid of it, then this time, there was no reason to excuse himself. Yuan Jia sat there, not even showing any intention of resisting.

The sword could not penetrate no matter what, and even Yang Jia's hands began to tremble.

Yuan Jia didn't seem to be afraid at all. He just sat there calmly, looking at Yang Jia. After a moment, seeing Yang Jia standing still, he sighed and said softly, "Do it. This is our fate."

"What?" Yang Jia didn't understand.

Yuan Jia smiled slightly, "You know that fate has arranged everything for us, don't you?"

Yang Jia's hand trembled, and he lost his grip on the sword, and it fell towards Yuan Jia. After being stabbed by the sword, Yuan Jia turned into a streak of light and plunged into the sword.

The dark sword suddenly lit up, and Yang Jia was in a trance for a moment. It seemed that there were many more things in his mind, most of which were about how to control the City Lord Seal and Phoenix Platform after becoming the City Lord.

It turns out that this is the way of inheritance. No wonder Yuanjia said that the inheritance was cut off. He is still alive, so how could these things be passed on?

Perhaps because of this, the power of Phoenix City's successors was always limited, forcing them to keep a low profile and focus on finding ways to remedy the situation. For example, the previous city lord had discovered a way to awaken the phoenix, but Yang Jia intervened midway, thwarting their efforts.

His thoughts stopped here, and a thought popped up in Yang Jia's mind: If Phoenix City is like this, what about other cities?

According to the general rules set by the game, the mayors of other cities should also have some problems. Otherwise, it would be basically impossible for the player at the current level to kill the mayor of a city with full combat power, right?

This presented an opportunity for the Nirvana Guild's squad: they simply needed to kill the city lord before everyone else and seize the crucial token. Whether or not they were native to the city, or whether or not they possessed any power, was of secondary importance. Once they became city lords, commanding the NPC army and defense systems, they would have the confidence to negotiate with the players.

Maybe we can really incorporate the surrounding cities.

A weight dropped on her shoulders, and Yang Jia came to her senses, only to see her teammates, who had been standing in the distance, rushing over. She took a deep breath, gathered her thoughts, and looked down to see a small treasure chest left where Yuan Jia had been sitting.

"Hey, is there another box that can be dropped?" Bai Ting reached out to pick it up in surprise and handed it to Yang Jia, "Open it quickly and take a look."

Yang Jia tried, but found that the box could not be opened directly. She checked carefully and found the keyhole on the box.

"I need a key." Yang Jia's heart suddenly moved, and she took out a key from her bag. This was the key she got when she fought Yuan Hai. She had thought it was the key to the treasure, but in the end, she didn't find it at all. After that, because she had a lot of things to do, she put it aside and only remembered it now.

The key was inserted into the keyhole and turned gently, and then a "click" sound was heard, which was the sound of the lock being opened.

Yang Jia opened the box, but surprisingly, what was inside was not the reward they expected, but a parchment scroll.

"A treasure map?" Bai Ting asked curiously.

Yang Jia took out the parchment and unfolded it. But it was not a treasure map, but a line of words written on it.

"One day, the whole world will fall asleep."

What does it mean? Yang Jia flipped through the parchment twice, finding nothing else, and passed it to Li Bai. After everyone passed it around, they fell silent. This whole thing was strange from beginning to end. They discovered the tunnel, entered, and encountered the boss. They expected a bloody battle, but the boss willingly let Yang Jia kill him. After they killed him, he was given a treasure chest, but there was no reward inside.

The setting of this game is really weird.

"What does this sentence mean? Some kind of hint or prophecy?" Zhao Wenhan thought for a while and said.

"Keep it for now. If it really is some kind of hint or prophecy, it will come in handy eventually." Bai Ting said.

Yang Jia put away the parchment scroll as she was told. Her gaze fell on the platform again, and her eyes became complicated. After a moment, she said, "Let's go back."

The group walked back along the path they had come from. After a while, Feng Qingxuan suddenly asked, "It wasn't that Yuan Jia who messed up the road signs, right?"

This statement startled everyone. That's right, Yuan Jia said he was trapped there and couldn't leave. And since he was waiting for Yang Jia, he couldn't possibly cause more trouble. In other words, there must be something else underground!

Just as she was thinking this, Yang Jia heard a gust of wind behind her head. She subconsciously raised her sword to block it. With a "clang", the sword in her hand hit something hard, which made Yang Jia's arm numb. She stumbled forward for several steps before she stood firm.

When I turned around, the others had already started fighting with that guy.

It was a rat, or rather, a giant rat, the size of a two or three-year-old baby, its fur a deep gray, making it difficult to detect in this environment. Furthermore, it was incredibly fast, using the tunnel walls to swiftly maneuver within the confined space, completely dodging the attacks of its teammates and even managing to launch a surprise attack. Conversely, Yang Jia's six men were completely helpless in the tunnel, forced to stand still and wait for his attacks. Even when they finally found an opportunity to counterattack, they were evaded.

Yang Jia made a quick decision and said, "Lead it to the hall!"

The hall was not only more spacious, but also had newly manufactured lighting equipment. The others did not hesitate and immediately turned around and retreated.
