Chapter 73 Meteor

Since they were entering an independent space as a team, Yang Jia decided to treat it as a single-player game instead of an online game. After opening a new map, a single-player game would require conversations with everyone on that map, finding the main and side quests to complete.

So the five of them then did as they were told.

However, after spending some time and talking to everyone in the town, I found that I had not received any mission at all.

The difference between holographic games and keyboard games is that NPCs are autonomous. So if you ask them, "How can I help you?" they might actually ask you to do something, but it's not necessarily a quest. And since it's not a quest, there's no reward.

After spending half a day and finally finding out that there was no reward at all, all five of them were a little confused.

"What should we do now?" Even Zhuo Tianyang, who was full of enthusiasm when he first came here, became dispirited and asked weakly.

Yang Jia said, "Wait a little longer."

She didn't know what to do in this situation, but since she couldn't leave, she could only calm down and wait. Of course, while she waited, she would definitely continue to study this place.

The various plants around the town were mostly unfamiliar to them. Furthermore, they could already see birds flying in the sky, but they were also species they had never seen before. Finally, regarding the town itself, on the surface, it looked much like the outside world, from the appearance of the NPCs to their clothing. But a closer look revealed that the technology in this town was far behind that of the game world.

The people here don't even have mobile phones, and don't seem to use the Internet. They only focus on their own lives.

"It seems like this place has almost no connection with other places." Yang Jia analyzed, "Is this the only town in this independent space, or is there another reason?"

Finally finding a difference, the five of them immediately went to ask the NPC. They learned that the townspeople would occasionally go to the city, but only once a month during the full moon. During that time, there was a market in the city, and people from all over brought their belongings and gathered to sell them. They could buy all the necessities they needed, and they could also sell the various items they had stored at home.

And the day to enter the city this month is just one day later.

Just like Yang Jia said before, the time hadn't arrived yet, so there were no reminders. After making an appointment with the NPC to go into the city with them, Zhuo Tianyang stroked his chin and said, "This time, I think we're heading in the right direction, right?"

No one answered his question, and Yang Jia was holding his phone and thinking.

She was holding the elderly phone she had bought before, because both her smart phone and the personal terminal of the Phoenix City system platform were embarrassingly out of power, and there were no conditions for charging here. However, the elderly phone was still standing strong because of its long standby time.

However, since there is no signal in this space, there is of course no way to communicate with people outside, so the only function is to tell time.

They had already been here for five days. This wasn't a long time for a mission, but without any communication with the outside world, it was inconvenient. Yang Jia was racing against time for everything, so he didn't have much time to spare.

Especially since she and Li Bai left so suddenly without explaining anything, it would definitely cause panic.

Li Bai did try to log off, but she kept getting the message that she was in a special plot. It wasn't that she couldn't log off, but that if she logged off, she wouldn't be in this plot again. If she left, Yang Jia would be the only one left here, along with Zhuo Tianyang and the other two. Li Bai was naturally worried, so after discussing it with Yang Jia, they decided to stay.

However, a week is pretty much the limit. From a system perspective, the plots and quests that appear won't exceed the player's capabilities. Generally speaking, the maximum time a player can stay online is seven days, after which they must log off and rest for a while.

So after following the team into the city tomorrow, there should be new developments, and then the story here will be concluded within a day.

But Yang Jia still couldn't figure out what mission this picturesque, seemingly isolated town held. Could it possibly be related to connecting the two cities? He didn't know if this was a mission assigned by the development team or the brain's own creation; it was completely unpredictable.

That evening, they had a sumptuous meal at the mayor's house. Perhaps because they had promised not to return after entering the city the next day, and in a way that served their word, the mayor's family was very welcoming and even offered them some fine wine.

Before Yang Jia and Li Bai could refuse, Zhuo Tianyang readily agreed and started drinking. Since that was the case, it would be bad to refuse.

Yang Jia stared at the wine glass in front of him. It was just a small glass. Even if it was white wine, there shouldn't be any problem... right?

I don't know how it was brewed, but the spicy flavor of the wine has faded a lot, and the sweetness has become more prominent. After drinking it, there is a refreshing feeling, like juice. So Yang Jia, who was a little reluctant at first, ended up drinking a lot without realizing it.

By the time she reacted, she was already drunk.

The others weren't much better. Zhuo Tianyang, in particular, was already a bit drunk and crazy, but luckily Xu Mo and Zhuo Han held him tightly, and after a while, he collapsed.

Li Bai seemed quite sober, but only in appearance. Yang Jia soon realized that she wasn't awake, but was just subconsciously keeping calm and not losing her composure. She almost bumped into the edge of the table when she stood up to leave.

Fortunately, when I walked out and was blown by the night wind, my consciousness became clearer.

Although they were trapped here because of the mission, it was undeniable that these past few days had been the most relaxing period they had had since entering the game. Even if they wanted to rest, there were always too many things to let go. And after tomorrow, when the mission was over, it would be time to go back.

After returning, she would be caught up in the hectic busyness again. Although Yang Jia had gotten used to it and didn't think there was anything wrong with it, and even looked forward to everything getting back on track, at the same time, she was reluctant to give up this leisurely time.

So she stood in the yard for a while, enjoying the breeze, and then suddenly had an idea and said to Li Bai, "Let's go to the roof to look at the stars?"

The town's architecture was remarkably retro, and the rooftops were naturally tiled in a herringbone pattern. The two climbed up with considerable effort, having to be careful not to break the tiles as they walked. Yang Jia looked around and chose a spot with the best view to sit down. After a while, he simply lay down again.

It was also a starry night. The wind blew gently around me, and the sound of insects chirping in the distance made the surroundings extremely quiet.

Yang Jia felt that he was indeed drunk. His head felt a little groggy, but not uncomfortable. He felt a sense of relief that spread throughout his body. No one spoke, but the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, not awkward at all.

Just when Yang Jia was about to fall asleep, a flash of light suddenly appeared before his eyes, and then another flash.

She suddenly opened her eyes and saw bright meteors streaking across the sky not far away, leaving long tails, one after another.

"Meteor!" Yang Jia grabbed Li Bai's hand, "Li Bai, look!"

But soon Yang Jia discovered that what appeared before his eyes were not shooting stars, but meteor showers. More and more shooting stars streaked across the sky, falling towards an unknown distance.

Yang Jia had seen meteor showers in various texts and images, but seeing them with his own eyes at this moment made him understand just how beautiful they were. The feeling of being suddenly immersed in the shifting light and shadows was truly astounding.

But soon, the pulling force coming from the side woke Yang Jia up from this trance.

"What's wrong?" She turned to look at Li Bai.

"Something's wrong." Li Bai's expression remained calm, but a hint of worry lingered in her eyes. She didn't look at Yang Jia, but instead stared at the meteor shower in the sky. "This scene isn't right. I'm afraid something's going to happen."

"What will happen--" Before the last word "what" came out, Yang Jia's eyes suddenly widened as he looked at the sky, unable to make a sound.

In her sight, a "meteor" was falling towards her at a rapid speed!

Although it was logically impossible to accurately determine the meteor's landing point due to the distance, Yang Jia had a hunch that it was headed her way! Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed more meteors leaving the sky, trailing long tails as they crashed into the ground.

Yang Jia knew that the meteor was actually the light produced by the friction of meteorites falling through the atmosphere. These rocks would most likely fall to Earth. But she had never imagined that such a large-scale meteor would fall so suddenly.

At this moment, Yang Jia stood there in a daze, and it was even difficult for him to make a correct response. He could only stare at the meteor that was about to fall.

Fortunately, Li Bai, who was beside her, pulled her hard, and the two of them fell from the roof to the ground, almost losing their balance. Just as they landed, there was a loud "bang" behind them. The meteorite fell where they had just been, completely crushing the house.

When Yang Jia turned around and saw this scene, he couldn't help but gasp.
