"Da, da, da."
In the dark and long corridor with flickering lights, Su Mingan's consciousness was floating up and down.
He stared with dilated pupils at the figure in front of him who was trying hard to save him, unable to recognize who it was.
The man dragged him around the corner, past the ivory-white statue of an angel with broken wings, the scarlet wallpaper reflecting fine gold patterns, and the air was filled with the scent of cedar and vase roses.
From somewhere in the ceiling, a voice tinged with anger came from the god:
"Run, keep running. Su Mingan, I want to see how long you can run..."
Su Mingan said nothing.
His consciousness was falling into the deep sea.
“…Wake up, wake up.”
The man ran and reminded him not to fall asleep.
Su Ming'an raised his head in the midst of hazy hearing. He saw a pair of clear eyes on the other person's face. Those eyes were like two amber glass windows, but soon his vision became blurred again. The wisp of white hair fluttering in the light was like a lively dandelion.
"I'm here to save you." the man whispered.
"Who... are you?" Su Ming'an couldn't see the other person's facial features. However, the overly gentle tone made him rule out Lin Guang first.
Suddenly, the other party's pace slowed down a little.
"Have you forgotten me?" The man's voice was light, but not disappointed, as if he could accept whatever Su Mingan said.
Hearing the faint sound of the mechanical army approaching, Su Mingan immediately turned off the light on his watch to prevent himself from being locked onto.
Suddenly, nothing could be seen in the dark corridor.
The corridor was intricate and there were traces of hoses everywhere. The two of them stumbled as they walked along, it was so dark that they couldn't see their hands in front of them, as if they were walking in the belly of a monster.
"I've been waiting for you... I thought maybe one day you would find me." The man's voice was low and slow, reminiscent of the gurgling water at night: "I didn't leave."
“Lu…”
The hose around his neck began to tighten. Su Mingan held up the sword blade and forced out a little space for breathing.
He coughed, his face flushed, and tried to call out the other person's name. He already knew who the person was who would speak like that.
"When you were away, I read a lot of books." The other person continued, "My previous life was too boring, like a one-way street with no end in sight. In this world, I have been trying to figure out many things. For example, why are there so many people around you, and why you never seem to need me."
The other party lowered his head, and this question sounded like a sigh:
"There is another question that has puzzled me for a long time."
"I want to know..."
"What is true love?"
It was as if he was driving in the middle of the night and heard distorted singing processed by the radio. The other person's voice lingered in Su Mingan's ears, but he could not make out the exact tone and texture.
Su Ming'an's eyes were gloomy. He coughed violently, covering his mouth, trying his best to prevent the noise from spreading out of the corridor.
The other person's face was hidden in the darkness, and even the outline could not be seen. All I could smell was the faint scent of cedar in the air, which was tranquil and warm, like a fire burning quietly in the fireplace of a wooden house in winter. It was refreshing and soothing, making me want to fall asleep.
...What is love?
Since the Ninth World, Su Mingan seemed to be asked this question frequently. Or rather, the entire ruins world seemed to be confused by this question.
Because he never had a childhood, he didn’t know what love was. He had always believed that “only those who have value deserve to be loved”, and he was always confused about whether he had the corresponding value to be loved. He didn’t need himself to be the recipient of love, he just wanted to prove the question “maybe he can be loved”, because he had never successfully proved it when he was a child.
However, love is not a question to be proved.
So he could only get unsolved answers.
"I remember you answered this question to me a long time ago."
The scarlet hose made a creaking sound, and the two had a very difficult time walking. The man had been trying his best to hold and drag Su Mingan along, dragging the heavy hoses, leaving behind a trail of tired gasps along the way.
"You said that love makes people feel warm and secure." The other person said, "But no one has ever loved me before. I have always been alone, so I don't know what it feels like. Some people say that I am lonely and can't talk, so no one will love me."
Su Mingan couldn't hear the other person's voice clearly and could only vaguely hear the last sentence.
He thought about how many people on the World Forum excitedly called out "Lü Shu" and "Treasure Shu" every day, and how many viewers had been eagerly waiting for Lu Shu during the days when Lu Shu disappeared. He also thought about the Lu Shu fan clubs, the Lu Shu forum sections, and the Lu Shu-themed comic exhibitions...
There must be a lot of people who love him.
There were none before, but now there are many.
"Yes." Su Mingan whispered, "Someone loves you."
"What about you?" The other person said: "For you, I won't say 'love'. I just want to ask, do you regret that I became your companion? Do you feel that I am not actually a burden?"
His voice, along with a clear fragrance, faded away faintly.
...Isn't it a burden?
Su Ming'an thought about the end of the fourth world when Lu Shu and Edward were forced to die together, forcing him to go back to save them.
But he thought again about the time when he was in the dome of the eighth world, Lu Shu became the black-robed boss in the castle level, and was willing to pay the price of death to hand over the final victory to him personally.
Although some of Lu Shu's actions were not necessary under the premise of death rollback, Lu Shu did not know this. What Lu Shu could do was to burn everything for him at the cost of Lu Shu's everything, even his life and soul.
