Su Mingan opened his eyes and found himself sitting on a chair.
In front of me is an ice-white laboratory with thousands of surveillance screens lined up on the walls.
The streets of the Measurement City, the auditorium of Constantine University, the pubs in the fringe areas, and even the sand outside... every scene is clearly presented in each frame of the surveillance.
This should be the ruined building of the Measurement City, the headquarters of the Dawn System.
A young man with a transparent figure stood with his back to Su Mingan. The pure white robe looked like falling snow, with fluffy edges surrounding the young man's shoulders and neck.
Hearing the noise, the young man turned around and looked at Su Mingan. His silver eyelashes trembled slightly, like a psionic butterfly flying in the night. The data stream surged around him like a storm, like a raging river wave.
"Dawn System?" Su Mingan stood up.
"Welcome back, Doctor. Congratulations on completing Kaiusta," Dawn said.
"Where's Su Lin?"
"He and you were not teleported back to the same place." The Dawn system replied.
Su Mingan opened the system bar and prepared to issue tasks to the players. However, he found that the line "task distribution rights" was gray and could not be clicked.
He pressed it again, but the panel still did not respond, as if his permissions were blocked.
At this moment, Su Mingan realized something was wrong.
He looked at the Dawn System in front of him, and he noticed that the Dawn System today presented a male posture instead of its usual female image.
"Li Ming, I'm going to assign new tasks to the players." Su Ming'an said, "Where is my authority?"
He turned on the AI Xico on his wrist, only to find that Xico had also fallen into a dormant state. The watch screen was black, and it couldn't even communicate with the outside world.
Then, wouldn't it appear to outsiders that I'm out of touch?
The Dawn System watched his movements:
"As you know before, there are two times in the Ruins World. One is what we call standard time, and the other is what we call origin time. Origin time is the time in the Dawn system, which is based on standard time."
"The simulation of the world is calculated by the system. I used computing power to calculate the entire twenty days. Then I came up with a solution - the timeline of the player's arrival. The player follows the standard timeline, but there is only the origin in the Dawn system. The player is moving towards a certain standard time on the paper of the Dawn system."
“Therefore, the entire world is built on countless simulations, and the absoluteness of the data represents everything.”
Su Mingan listened to the Dawn System calmly: "So?"
Dawn turned around and looked at the city-state in the night. A pale round moon was hidden in the black fog, like a silver lake in the wilderness.
His pale cheek was slightly tilted, and his eyes were fixed on the silent eternal night of the city-state. From here, he could see the roads full of pale corpses and the trucks still moving in the black fog.
He just quietly looked at these humans struggling to survive, with no mercy, no sadness, and no sympathy in his eyes, like a god looking down on the city-state.
"Doctor, I need to inform you of something."
"After Kaiusta's 2,300 simulations were completed, and since the trap program Linguang T-0321 had completed its mission, I collected enough data to learn about [Hewei]'s situation."
"In the past twelve hours, I have conducted 360 trillion simulations within my system. I have made a comprehensive comparison between the city-state's resource reserves, personnel action plans, and firewall defense time and the situation of [Other Dimensions]."
"Among them, there were a total of eight simulations in which the ruined world successfully defended itself and humans won."
Dawn System said this and looked at Su Mingan.
But Su Mingan heard what he had not yet finished saying.
"Three hundred and six hundred trillion simulations, and only eight successes?" Su Mingan said.
"This is a cruel fact." The Dawn System said, "Based on the data obtained by Linguang T-0321, I have discovered that our chance of winning is not even one in a billion, Doctor."
"Are you serious?" Su Mingan took a step back.
"According to the emergency regulations, this resistance is hopeless. Doctor, I will end the 'Dawn Project' and my mission will become to preserve the last hope of mankind. We must strive to ensure that mankind still has a chance to rise again after this world is invaded by [Other Dimensions]." said the Dawn system.
"Wait..." Su Mingan understood: "You mean, you want to give up resisting [Hewei], give up the 'Dawn Plan' that has already been launched, give up those people who are transporting resources, and give up everything that exists?"
Under Su Mingan's sight, the Dawn System nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"While there are still more than ten hours left, I need to quickly complete the final transfer work and transfer the most precious information of mankind into my program. Please rest assured that even if everything in reality is destroyed by [Other Dimensions] in the end, I can still preserve the last images and biological specimens of mankind."
After hearing these words and looking at the Dawn System, Su Mingan finally felt the difference between humans and programs.
Those residents who are still struggling to survive, those soldiers running in the sand... and those white birds on the bell tower, footprints in the snow, music scores in the glaciers, maltose in the alleys - everything about humanity... those billions of lives, and countless children like flowers - the meaning of the Dawn System is -
Su Mingan's pupils shrank slightly.
——Give up everything?
Because of the information brought by Linguang T-0321's sacrifice, the Dawn system learned after comparison that it was almost impossible for humans to win, so it decisively decided to abandon all previous considerations - those perfect coordination between time, space, and dimensions, those firewalls set up through 2,300 simulations, and those lines of defense built by the pinnacle of human wisdom - are they equivalent to nothing?
