Gu Yuzhi seemed to be caught in a strange dream. He and Marshal Huo were running in the desolate mountains, but as they ran, Chief Secretary Xie caught up with them, along with many Xinliang city guards.
He stood there somewhat puzzled, looking at each of them, and saw that they all had smiles on their faces and were calling out to him with great enthusiasm.
"Your Highness..."
"Your Highness, come quickly!"
He pouted and grumbled, "I'm not a little prince! I am a prince!"
I'm not a child. I can fight on the battlefield and protect the people I want to protect!
He scratched his head, feeling a little strange. Where did he get the confidence to think he could protect Marshal Huo?
Strangely, although these people were calling his name, they seemed to be unable to see him.
Gu Yuzhi took a few steps after them, then realized they were getting further and further away: "Chief Secretary Xie, Marshal Huo, where are you going? Aren't we together?"
He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. Looking down, he saw that his white fox cloak had turned dark red and was soaking wet, clinging to his body. His undergarments were also covered in blood, and a footprint lay across his chest.
In that instant, he found that his eyes seemed to have X-ray vision, and he could clearly see the two broken ribs.
He stood there, stunned, tears of blood streaming down his face, the area beneath him instantly turning into a sea of red.
Gu Yuzhi murmured, "Judge Qin, my ribs are broken. Can they be set? Will I be able to stand up straight again?"
He's in so much pain!
But gradually, he seemed to lose his sight, and everything went dark before his eyes, but the teasing voices of Xin Liang, the guard, still lingered in his ears.
"His Highness said that when we arrived at the inn, he would treat us to food from the capital."
"Really?"
"Of course it's true. It's said that there are even apprentices of former imperial chefs among them."
A royal chef apprentice means that even an apprentice is more skilled than an ordinary chef.
Upon hearing this, the guards burst into laughter, their interest in going to the inn growing.
It should have been a happy occasion, but Gu Yuzhi felt incredibly sad. His lips unconsciously turned down, and he muttered to himself, "I can't see! Look at me!"
"Chief Secretary Xie, Marshal Huo, where are you?"
He groped his way forward step by step, but it felt as if he were walking towards the center of the lake. The water level rose higher and higher, and his body became heavier and heavier. Finally, the sounds gradually disappeared.
Everything around them fell silent. A flicker of terror crossed Gu Yuzhi's unfocused eyes: "Chief Secretary Xie, Marshal Huo! Where are you?!"
He waved his hands frantically in all directions, his throat tightened, his body trembled involuntarily, and the panic in his heart almost overwhelmed him. Even with his mouth wide open, it seemed as if he couldn't breathe: "Don't leave me, I don't want to be here alone, I'm scared..."
"Waaaaah... Mother, I can't see anymore..."
Silence enveloped him; not even the sound of flowing water could be heard. Gu Yuzhi slowly withdrew his hands, hugging himself tightly, curling up into a ball as if only then would he feel safe. He unconsciously murmured, "Mother, I'm so cold..."
Until he could no longer utter a sound, his eyes were empty and he stared blankly ahead, waiting for his death in despair and loneliness.
Just as the water was about to submerge his head, Gu Yuzhi felt two hands suddenly pull him up. A large amount of air rushed in, and he coughed violently.
The sharp pain in his chest forced him to curl up, and he muttered, "Who is it?"
Who came to save him?
"Your Highness!"
A pair of large hands gently rested on his head, carrying a familiar and warm feeling: "Your Highness, how did you let yourself become like this? Please go back."
Thank you, Chief Secretary!
Gu Yuzhi's eyes widened as he turned his head towards the sound, but all he could see was darkness. Despite the excruciating pain, he shouted, "Is that Chief Secretary Xie?"
Xie Changshi did not answer, but another pair of hands pulled him up: "Your Highness, are you unable to find your way back? Didn't I teach you how to tell directions?"
Gu Yuzhi turned around abruptly; it was Marshal Huo's voice!
A smile immediately spread across his face: "Marshal Huo, is that you?"
But no matter how he called out, Marshal Huo and Chief Secretary Xie did not answer; they simply did not let go of his hands.
Chief Secretary Xie and Marshal Huo led Gu Yuzhi forward, walking for an unknown amount of time. Just when Gu Yuzhi was in so much pain that he could hardly breathe, the two of them finally let go of his hands.
"Your Highness, we are waiting for you. Please come back soon."
Gu Yuzhi was gently nudged. He looked up and vaguely saw a ball of light ahead. Instinctively, he followed the light and kept walking forward. The next moment, he fell into the ball of light and fell into a deep sleep.
Chen Dianyi paced back and forth in front of the bed with his hands behind his back. His brows were furrowed, his face was haggard, his eyes were bloodshot, and stubble had sprouted on his chin. His clothes were wrinkled and even stained with blood, indicating that he had not had a proper rest for several days.
He would occasionally peek over the bedside and see that Gu Yuzhi was still unconscious, his face pale and sunken, and he would sigh again.
Qin, the imperial physician, was taking Gu Yuzhi's pulse with his eyes closed. After a while, he put Gu Yuzhi's slender arm under the covers. He turned his head and glared at Chen Dianyi with annoyance: "I've only been taking your pulse for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, and you've already sighed at least ten times."
“Chen Dianyi, if you are really worried, why don’t you go and see Chief Secretary Xie and Marshal Huo?”
When Xie Changshi and Marshal Huo were mentioned, Chen Dianyi's expression turned even more unpleasant.
When they found the people that day, apart from these three, all the other guards had been killed. Chief Secretary Xie and Marshal Huo were barely alive. Without hesitation, Judge Qin took out life-saving pills to keep the two of them alive.
The young prince appeared to have no external injuries, but in reality, his condition was the most serious. His ribs were broken, and Imperial Physician Qin could not immediately determine whether there was any damage to his internal organs or whether he had internal bleeding. He dared not move him at all and performed a simple bandage on Gu Yuzhi in the freezing cold.
The group then hurried towards Xinliang, while Yuan Shiliang had already led his men to Changzhou. Besides bringing back the medicinal herbs needed by Chief Secretary Xie, they also needed to report the situation here to Qi Wenhan.
Although the incident occurred on the official road near Xinliang, Xinliang is still under construction, and the culprit is Li Yanping, so naturally they went to find Qi Wenhan.
This morning, Yuan Shiliang returned home, covered in dust, with a box of medicine, while Gu Yuzhi and the others were still asleep.
Five days have passed since the incident.
No wonder Chen Dianyi was in a bad mood!
