"Okay, I will be there on time!"
After Wu Qian left, Xiang Nuan went straight back to school. She had been busy with final exams recently and had no time to go home on weekends. She could only wait until after the exams to go home and spend time with her children.
Yan Fangming went to pick up Yan Mancang and his father when they arrived in Beijing. They stayed in the staff quarters for the time being and waited for Xiang Nuan to finish her exam before Shuangxi went over to help.
When the two children got out of school in the afternoon, Yan Mancang finally saw his long-awaited granddaughter and grandson. The wrinkles on his face deepened with joy.
"grandfather!"
"Hey! Good boy!"
Yan Mancang touched Yanyan's head lovingly, then looked at Haoyang expectantly.
After all, Yanyan is old enough to still remember what her grandfather looks like, but Haoyang is different. He hasn't seen his grandfather for more than four years and has no impression of him in his mind.
However, his father had already told his brother and sister that their grandfather and aunt would be here today, so as a polite child, he still greeted them obediently, "Hello, grandfather, hello, aunt."
When Yan Mancang heard his grandson calling him grandpa, he was so happy that he couldn't close his mouth. "My dear grandson, you still remember grandpa? Not bad! Grandpa brought you some delicious food from my hometown!"
After he said that, he placed the food in front of the two children and watched them eat lovingly.
Yanyan helped Shuangxi prepare dinner. After work, Yan Fangming went to the army canteen and got two meat dishes. The family had a rare reunion dinner.
"Dad, you and Yangyang should sleep in the west room at night, and let Shuangxi and Yanyan sleep in the east room."
After dinner and chatting for a while, the children began to feel sleepy, so Yan Fangming started to arrange the rooms.
Yan Mancang asked, "Where do you sleep?"
Yan Fangming smiled and said, "I can just sleep on the floor in the living room. It's cool in this hot weather."
Yan Mancang nodded, "Okay then."
It's nothing for a grown man to sleep on the floor. It's not like he'll get cold in the middle of winter.
Xiang Nuan worked hard for a week and finally finished her last exam. She packed up and went home that afternoon.
"Dad, I'm sorry, I was busy with exams this week and couldn't pick you up."
Yan Mancang waved his hand nonchalantly, "The exam is important, and you are so busy. We are the ones who are causing you trouble."
"What are you talking about? We are so happy that you are here!
I've been here for a few days and haven't had time to take you out. Tomorrow I'll take you and Shuangxi to the city for a walk, and then we'll go see how the store I bought is doing."
Yan Mancang nodded happily, "Okay, just listening to you, I really want to go and see what you have done."
The next day, Xiang Nuan took her father-in-law and sister-in-law to visit some tourist attractions and took a lot of photos, which made the father and son very happy. They had roast duck for lunch and went to the store again at around 3pm.
Even though Yan Mancang didn't know much about business, he could tell that the location of this store was very good. He sighed and said, "You young people are getting old!"
"Dad, you've worked hard all your life, it's time to enjoy some peace and quiet. I would say just retire.
When you retire, you and my aunt can move here, so Fang Ming and I can take care of you nearby, instead of having to live so far away and be unable to help you.
When you come here, you can see the children often, otherwise they will become strangers to you.
Don't worry about housing. Now houses in Beijing can be bought and sold freely. I will rent one for you directly when the time comes."
Xiang Nuan took the opportunity to persuade her father-in-law to move to Beijing. Yan Fangming was the only son in the family, and Shuangxi was still young. In this era, sons usually take care of their parents in their old age. Yan Fangming also wanted his parents to move to Beijing so that they could be taken care of nearby, but Yan Mancang was still reluctant to leave his hometown.
She gets along very well with her in-laws, so naturally she wouldn't object to bringing them over. It's just as well that they come over to help her look after the business, so why not?
